Help a California 'Skins fan out!

I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place, and I apologize if I'm not, but I need a hand with the upcoming 2005 season. I recently had a chance to look at the TV schedule, and considering that the Redskins will be playing two local teams (49ers and Raiders), I'll probably be able to watch a total of 4 games on TV since only others are scheduled to be televised nationally.

4 out of 16 games. That just doesn't work for me, man. Does anyone have any sort of suggestion on how the heck I can catch some more games? Keep in mind I'm a college student, so I can't just drop a ton of money on one of those TV packages to get all the games. I'm open to just about any other potential suggestion though. I'm desperate. Desperate I say!

i may have a suggestion, my only question is, do you have any family in the DC area?, if so there is some new thing that you can hook up there and then watch what ever is being played on that cable network all over the world as long as you have internet connection, i'll find it hold up

this box is helpfull for people that can't live w/o local TV when they are around the world, other options include dropping out and living in DC

That Slingbox thing is AWESOME. I'm definitely going to do that if I move out of Skins area.

I agree with the sports bar idea. Find all your local sports bars and call to see if any of them televise the games. Alot of sports bars will have free food or food specials to attract customers. If your to young to drink you can catch the game get some free food or cheap food and injoy the games. Good luck and let us know how it goes I'm sure their are other Skins fans with your dilemma on this site.

I like to listen to the games on Sirius Satellite radio and then re-enact the plays as I hear them with my Redskins Action Figures. Of course, I have all of my Dallas Cowboys Action Figures dressed up in girls clothes and makeup.

I've found that I can follow the Skins game just about anywhere - at home, in a hotel room, on a train or even in the bathtub.

Sadly, it doesn't look like the Slingbox thing will work. My entire family is also west coast. And for some reason, I never considered the whole sports bar thing! It'll still be pretty strange considering I don't drink, but I NEED to see some extra games this year. Plus I'd love to find some more fans out here. I'll give that a try unless anyone has any other crazy-good suggestions.

Don't worry about not drinking, most of the time when I go I don't drink either. I just have something to eat and drink iced tea.

I used to get hammered every sunday but I guess I'm getting too old for that, LOL.

If your looking to save money, its a good idea to get somthing like an iced tea, or somthing else that you can refill all the time. The Beer would get expensive, so I dont get that when I go to the bar......although the not being 21 might have somthing to do with that too.

Can we get a thread blocker to block out that immage of Action figures in the bathtub thingy?

WoW! That was way too much information, altogether!

Yea, Ice Tee is a cheep way to go and you can cook some wings and sneek them in with you. Order just a few then just refill with yours when the skins score and everyone is jumping around not paying attention.

This has been a long off season, hasn't it?

Whereabouts are you, West Coast Skins Fan? There are a ton of Sports Bars in and around LA.
What, do you just put them in your pocket? Like Napoleon Dynamite? :vomit-smi
No, you put them in a zip lock bag and wear a baggy shirt to stuff them under. Never put hot wings in your pockets. The hot sauce will bleed through your pockets and underwear and you will be up making some moves if that happens.

Either Sacramento, or the SF Bay Area depending on the day. There are plenty around here too, now that I think about it. I just don't know which are good and which suck.

And on a random note, it sucks (for me) that Washington is playing BOTH local teams, and they're both home games. What the hell are the odds? I was hoping to see them play this year since my girlfriend graduated from college the day of the 49ers/Skins game last year and I was obviously unable to attend. Again, what are the odds?

Not to mention people will start to ask you if you're feeling crampy, bloated and moody.

WestCoastSkinsFan I feel your pain I'm moving to San Diego (or Whale's Vagina depending on your translation of German) two weeks before Week 1. Has anyone paid for the DirectTV package before and how reliable is it? I know some baseball packages have games blacked out, does this happen with the NFL?

Re: Help a California 'Skins fan out!

I've always relied on sports bars in Nashville and during the (almost) year I spent in Albuquerque. I don't drink, but that's never been a problem. It's nice to have the game on a big TV, usually some fellow skins fans around, and someone bringing you food. I would consider NOT getting direcTV because I enjoy that so much. It's a Sunday ritual for me. most good sports bars are set up where you can watch multiple games which is good if you're into fantasy football and good if you have friends with you that are fans of other teams. Both of these are true for me. I have a friend here who is a huge Rams fan that I go to the sports bar with. I'll be going to the skins game in St. Louis with him.

Re: Help a California 'Skins fan out!

extremeskins.com also has a fan finder where you can possibly find someone nearby that has direct tv and likes inviting people over... generally the sports bars are a safer bet though. extremeskins also has reviews of the bars like the ones posted further up in this thread.

Monksdown 07-26-2005 10:00 PM

easy solution

go somewhere that does have one of the football packages. like a bar, grab 2 beers, and a bunch of water. now that is cheap.
