Re: How should we remember Gardner's time as a Redskin?
I think we should celebrate Drop it like it's Hot! day every July 27th. This will be done by randomly dropping objects and singing folk songs about Marty Schottenheimer.
Potential song selections: "The torrid tale of Tony Banks" "I hate John Elway" "I hate Earnest Byner" "There is no Neon in Oklahoma" "Train my way or the highway" "Darrell needs some coaching" |
Re: How should we remember Gardner's time as a Redskin?
If I do remember Gardner for anything, it will actually be a good thing he did. The game against Dallas on Monday night last year, where he absolutley exploded, is engraved in my mind. I dont know if its Gardners performance or the face that me and a Washington Redskin (Gardner), both ripped off our headware (his helmet,my hat) and screamed the same explitive (f---) at exactly the same time as time expired......
I wont forget about his drop this year vs NYG either. |
Re: How should we remember Gardner's time as a Redskin?
i voted for drop it like it's hot. although i was close to voting for he threw crazy mad parties, yo.
|
Re: How should we remember Gardner's time as a Redskin?
i voted for the parties, cause they were off the hook. ON the field however, I'll remember him for the mnf game agianst the cowboys when he looked like the only reciever with some heart.

Re: How should we remember Gardner's time as a Redskin?
the game he had against the Panthers during his rookie campaign was one of the sweetest things I'd ever seen especially since they were losing before he and Banks tore it up and stormed back to win the game. I still think he scored the winning td instead of being ruled down near the goalline.

I'll remember Rod as a talented wide receiver who never got a fair chance in a town that never embraced him and as 1st round draft pick that never reached his potential because of plain and simple bad luck.
Sincerely, M. Westbrook |
Re: How should we remember Gardner's time as a Redskin?
You forgot to add his pinpoint passing for TD's

Exactly! But what's as impressive is not only his mad crazy parties but the fact that in spite of the parties he never missed a game or even practice as far as I remember |

I was thinking about that darn helmet to helmet hit. Skrew the cowgirls. Now atleast we won't have to hear "Redskins Rod Gardner was not at camp today because he was excused from all offseason workouts. It seems as if the Redskins will be forced to let the former 1st round draft pick go due to disputes between the team and him." |
Re: How should we remember Gardner's time as a Redskin?
Michael Westbrook with less anti-social tendencies.
That's how I'll remember the Rod Gardner Era in Washington... |
Re: How should we remember Gardner's time as a Redskin?
basically i'll remember him as the personification of Redskin Post-Posse receiving mediocrity.
hoping Gardner's hands would grow as an adult instead of giving other faster guys on the roster (ahem McCants) more chances to prove themselves is beyond me. |
Re: How should we remember Gardner's time as a Redskin?
Gardner's Redskin career will be rememebered as half good, half bad.. All in all, 50-50.
Sorry, that was WAY too easy and it hadn't been said yet. |

Oh that's cold! |
Re: How should we remember Gardner's time as a Redskin?
I hope Moss gets 1200 yards. he definately has the talent.
I hope Jacobs turns into a solid 700-1000 yard WR. he also has the the talent but, i think Gardner will put up better stats than the guys on our team. gardners going to a better system with a good WR on the other side of the field. rod always did a good job of beating defenders. if he can stay in the same system for a while, he will develop into what we thought he was going to be. i wish him the best. he is a good guy. |
Re: How should we remember Gardner's time as a Redskin?
i dont think he ever really missed practices or games, and i don't remember him shunning the media (though he's never been a postgame centerpiece)... i wish his hands weren't so horrible, but i really rather have a WR corp that doesn't drop balls, even if they're slightly less talented.

Re: How should we remember Gardner's time as a Redskin?
does anyone know what round pick we got? 4th? 5th? is it contingent on him signing an extension? has his agent decided to drop the no new contract stuff?
|
Re: How should we remember Gardner's time as a Redskin?
We got a conditional 6th round pick according to the Washington Post. Rod made amazing plays and frustrating plays so I'll agree with the 50-50 rating of his time here in DC.

Re: How should we remember Gardner's time as a Redskin?
I'm just going to say that I want to remember the easy catches he made look tough. At least those were good for the highlight reel.
|
Re: How should we remember Gardner's time as a Redskin?
The parties he threw were hot, his SUV getting jacked was classic, but more than anything, 50/50 will always hold a special place in my heart and he'll always be remembered fondly whenever a well placed ball bounces off the hands of a wide open wide receiver.
Long live fity-fity! |
Re: How should we remember Gardner's time as a Redskin?
Not to go off-topic here but isn't it kind of sad that Bruce Smith's greatest contribution to the Redskins was coming up with the nickname 50/50?

I thought his greatest contribution were the sack record commemerative coins? |

Drop it like it's hot.....all day
|
Re: How should we remember Gardner's time as a Redskin?
:Flush: a couple of good games doesn't make up for so many more that he disappeared, or dropped catchable balls.his time here was long over due to be terminated.i don't wish him harm, but he didn't fulfill his obligation here in any shape or form. let him go,he was only going to continue to disappoint us(me) anyway's hopefully he will remember to make sure that it's a valet he's giving his key too  soo long to the hot potato
|
Re: How should we remember Gardner's time as a Redskin?
Ernest Byner had a long and storied career, but will (unfairly) be remembered for "The Fumble".
Joe Theismann was a Super Bowl winning QB, but will largely be remembered for "The Break". Rod Gardner? So many miscues, so many drops, which one to choose... |
Re: How should we remember Gardner's time as a Redskin?
I'll remember Gardner for how inconsistent his effort was. When he wanted to play, he was one of the best receivers we've had here in a while. When he didn't want to play, he was horrible. Talented and inconsistent. I'm a bit sad to see him go, but he certainly isn't a Joe Gibbs guy.
|
Re: How should we remember Gardner's time as a Redskin?
I never thought it was a question of effort, it seemed more of a "he'll just never be that good."
|

Totally agree |
Re: How should we remember Gardner's time as a Redskin?
And I really wanted him to be good too because it seemed like for every ten dropped balls, he'd make one spectacular catch that would restore my faith.

Re: How should we remember Gardner's time as a Redskin?
I'll remember - Week 3 against Dallas. The guy got me like 40 fantasy points (mostly in the 4th quarter) and capped off my miracle comeback victory with a long catch on the last play of the game. Then Roy Williams almost took his head off.
I'll forget - Week 2 against the Giants. In hindsight, that drop in the end zone probably cost us a playoff season. I'm one of the bigger Gardner fans on this site and I'm a bit sad to see him go. I think the Panthers got a good deal here. They get a veteran receiver with good physical skills who already understands how an NFL offense works. Not to mention he'll be playing for a new contract. They're getting all this for a 6th rd pick and $2M. What are we getting for our $1M+ deadcap charge? Besides, is it that hard to catch the ball????? But of course I defer to Coach Gibbs, and I guess it was time for RG to move on. Thanks for all the good/bad times and best of luck in Carolina Rod! |
Re: How should we remember Gardner's time as a Redskin?
Its about time that he is gone!!!! What good is a w/r that you cant trust to catch the ball when needed? I mean you are in a game. You get 3 downs to make 10 yards to keep moving. You cant afford throwing the ball to someone who may or may not catch it. I understand incomplete passes are part of the game. But a w/r that consistantly disappoints you and drops even simple easy wide open in stride in your chest kind of pass then its most definitely time to let him go. Hopefully he will do alot better elsewhere. I have a close friend (like brother) who lives in south carolina and went to Clemson. He follows college ball very closely. He thinks very highly of RG. That we are lucky to have him on our team. I just plainly dont see it.

That was a hard decision for me too......parties, or the drops...........chose the drops............but perhaps the parties caused the drops ;) Good bye Gardner................ |
