Skins are now a physical team
I think the Skins are starting to learn what "Redskins" football is. I think that it really showed against the Steelers. I would consider Pittsburgh one of the most physical teams in the NFL. In that game, I noticed that we were the ones pushing their men out of the way. I think that it is very good sign of how we are gonna play this year. This is Joe Gibbs football, it is a power based game. I don't think that any team that we will play this year will push around.
It's very simple football....impose your will upon the other team and you will win. LETS GO SKINS!!! |

I think the Steelers will be fighting the Ravens tooth and nail for the division championship..somewhere around 10 wins And thats quite a statement considering the Ravens have perhaps the worst starting QB in the NFL Word has it that Roethlisberger got a big head after last years success, the Pittsburgh passing game wont be what it was without a huge target like Plexiglass Burress and as usual Duce Staley is injured Sure they got Miller, but he's a rookie Heck an injury to Bettis that keeps him out of the lineup (he's already nicked up) leaves the Pitt offense in dire straights |

Re: Skins are now a physical team
sept 19 your place monday night. I can't wait, o i can't wait.
But i agree with you 73 the steelers aren't showing any of their strengths of last year. I just wish bettis played more because their offense is their running game, roethlisburger is overrated, i think any QB would do good in that type of offense. their D didn't play to well but what can we expect, they are playing our offense. I can't wait till the season. HAIL TO THE REDSKINS SEE ANYONE WHO IS GOING ON OPENING DAY! |
Re: Skins are now a physical team
I was more impressed with the way the O-Line kept the quarterbacks upright and how well we delivered the long ball. Ramsey looked like a new man without defenders using him as a jungle gym. They even ran the old counter trey with Betts in the backfield. The line worked great as a unit and gave the playmakers time and space to make plays. THAT is what was missing last year. If the Skins can finally force defenses to respect the pass and stop putting 8 or even 9 defenders in the box, I see a team contending for a playoff spot. That might be terribly optimistic for the third pre-season game, but what I've seen is steady and rapid improvement through the pre-season. I'm betting it continues.

REDSKINS TANK, I hope that your username stands for the military vehicle and not the way we have fallen apart in the past.

Re: Skins are now a physical team
the o-line is gonna be really good this year. i can see portis exceeding 1500 yards and maybe getting even around 1700 :):)

Re: Skins are now a physical team
This is the best complete team we've had in years. :oink:

Re: Skins are now a physical team
you know, im all for people from other teams giving their point of view. It keeps things interesting and prevents completly bias opinion. However I must say that with the choice of avatars...it is odd to see a cowboys helmet on this site. Or any other team for that matter. I think that fans from other teams should just have to pick their favorite skin to use as an avatar. heh.

Re: Skins are now a physical team
I am also impressed with how our o-line have played. What concerns me is our D-line. They are not stopping the run like last year and pass-rush is still pitiful. I'm sure Gregg Williams will devise a scheme to work around it, but our defense will be so much better if we can generate decent pressure from our front four.

Re: Skins are now a physical team
our oline has been amazing, I love it. A strong Oline is going to make everything better, ramsey will have more time, Portis will have bigger holes...games are won with a great oline.
To go along with that, they practice against williams blitzs everyday, that can only help. |

If we cen generate a decent pass rush, we dont have to send as many blitzers to put some pressure on the QB, allowing us to drop more men in coverage. I am not worried about our run stopping and I actually think it has been pretty good as far as yds per carry goes. I know we have yielded some big runs but I dont think the d-line should take all the blame since our other guys have been missing some tackles.
However, our D is so good that even without a great pass rush by our d-line last year, we still got 40 sacks and were amazing against the run. An elite pash rusher would be great, but we should still be fine without it. With daniels and noble back from injuries that kept them out for a most of last season, we should be even better this year. Judging by how we have done so far this preseason, our o-line should be one of the tops in the league and I agree that they are really looking more physical and tough then ever (Dockery throwing down kris jenkins was is solid proof). What does that mean? A very fun season for Portis ahead. |

Yeah, I saw that when Dockery threw down C. Jenkins - f&@# awesome! One other observation, maybe for another thread, is it just me or is it possible we have one of, if not the best one-two punch in Portis and Betts? I can think of Staley/Betts...but they haven't played much together. Neither has the pair in Carolina. What do you guys think? |
Re: Skins are now a physical team
thats iffy, you have Ricky Williams, Ronnie Brown... Micheal Pittman, Carnell Williams...
Bennett, Moore, Williams in Minnesota...Pries Holmes, Larry Johnson... and Mike Vick, Warrick Dunn, T.J. Duckett. |
Re: Skins are now a physical team
I do think to have such an elite 1st sting back, we have an exceptional 2nd stringer, unlike the chargers and bills, but I dont know if we have the best tandem in the league, mainly because I dont see betts playing all that much if portis is healthy, and nemo is our new 3rd down guy.

I agree that our front four on defense doesn't generate much of a pass-rush, but disagree with your claim that they can't stop the run. I think they've done a pretty good job of containing opposing offenses' tailbacks. |

Re: Skins are now a physical team
Not only did we throw the ball DOWN field, but the running game looked great too......and the Steelers have a solid defense.............
|
Re: Skins are now a physical team
What I got from our offense is that the Pittsburgh Steelers were a non-factor in their overall performance because of our aggressive offensive line. That's where the victory was won. No sacks in the entire game says alot. And let me tell you, our 2nd string offensive line isn't a pushover by a long stretch.

Re: Skins are now a physical team
It's a step in the right direction, especially for confidence. That D is pretty awesome. I think we just smacked em around, and they just didn't feel like getting it going in a preseason game. BUt no doubt they didn't send all their bltizes and so-on. But whatever. We had a job to do, and we did it. Now on to the next test, and let's keep going forward.
I think our run D is very good. I really think that's crucial with this D-line. Williams knows how to create pressure from other areas. And I do think it will help having Lavar back. He brings fire on every play. Down the road, of course it would be nice to have a serious DE pass rusher. But one step at a time. The main thing I love so far is the affect of Jansen on the whole offense. The attitude alone is worth it. But he is just a kick-ass right tackle. If the skins O improves, he'll be pro-bowl bound. |

Re: Skins are now a physical team
I watched the first half of the Steelers game on saturday and I spent alot of time watching the offensive line in slo-mo, and I was just loving how guys were being blown off the ball.
The return of Jansen obviously is huge, and I like what I've seen from Dockery. In fact, everyone up front has picked up their games it seems. Things really seem to be coming together up front, I really don't see any glaring weaknesses up front. Portis was running through gaping holes and the pass protection at times was ridiculously good giving Ramsey plenty of time to throw. The saying goes that it all starts up front, and I think that's very true. If the Pittsburgh game was a sign of things to come from the offensive line, I think we're in for a very good year offensively speaking. |
Re: Skins are now a physical team
I got to watch from the 400-level from the end zone, it was a great perspective to see the plays open up. Portis (Betts, Cartwright AND Nemo) all normally had holes the size of 3-4 bodies to fit through. The o-line was seriously blowing people up. Also, the pass protection was amazing. Every QB had eons to throw the ball.
