Redskins vs. Bears pre-game/predictions

It's about that time folks, time for our first pre-game/predictions thread of the 2005 season! Wow, time really flies doesn't it? Seems like just yesterday we were wrapping up a difficult 2004 season, but each season brings hope, the records are dialed back to 0-0, and everyone has a shot (except for the Cowboys ;) )

So let's hear your Skins-Bears predictions and pre-game chatter! Football is back, and it's about damn time!

Washington Redskins 20
Chicago Bears 9

We are the better football team, no question in my mind. As long as Ramsey dosent make any big mistakes, and our line continues playing well, we should be in good shape. My player of the game is going to be Clinton Portis, I think he's going to have a huge day on Sunday. I think the Bears will muster up a few feild goals, but I'm pretty sure we can shut them down.

MTK 09-08-2005 09:07 AM

Re: Redskins vs. Bears pre-game/predictions

I also think Portis is in for a big day. I really have high expectations of our offensive line and running game this season. I think the potential is there for a 1500+ yard season from CP. I also think Betts can kick in with a healthy contribution as well.

I'm calling an opening day blowout. A rookie QB against this D on the road? That's a recipe for disaster in my mind.

I think Ramsey will be fine with this running game grinding away.

Redskins 17

Bears 13

RAmsey goes 18-33, 215 yards, 1 TD and 2 int's
Portis 115 yards 1TD
Moss 6-85 yards 1TD

Take a look at our predictions last year for the 04 season, how many 10-6's did we see? We have to be realistic, our offense is still looking sluggish, better, but sluggish.

Its going to be sloppy and frustrating game, but we see flashes. Ramsey and the O aren't going to start clicking till week 4.

Re: Redskins vs. Bears pre-game/predictions

If Ramsey has one turnover and less than four sacks, the Redskins win 21, Chicago 7. Special teams is key in this game. We need Antonio Brown to get us near the middle of the field to allow Ramsey, Moss and Portis room to work. 2 TDs on offense. 1 TD from the defense. INT return from Sean Springs.

I can't believe there are people out there that think the Bears defense will be better than ours, and that Kyle Orton might be the next Tom Brady. C'mon people.......HE'S A ROOKIE going up against the #3 defense. Yeah we lost Pierce and Smoot, but I believe Gregg Williams has these guys focused.

With all that being said....I see a big game for Portis. The o-line will give him plenty of holes to run through. I think Ramsey will have a decent game, and will throw for a couple of TD's........one being a 40 yd bomb to Santana Moss.

Re: Redskins vs. Bears pre-game/predictions

Defense controls this game on both sides. Skins 17 Bears 10. Ramsey will have a productive day 15-25 for 200yds 1TD and 1INT(in the red zone). Special teams will set up a score with a big PR or KR by Antonio Brown. Game will be close on the scoreboard, but the skins will dominate the game and the Bears will score late.

What people don't get is our worst enemy for our Defense is our Offense. We turn the ball over, give up Defensive touchdowns, don't control the ball, are terrible on 3rd downs, and don't give our D time to rest! I think our offensive will put our Defensive in bad situations!

Our D will only give up 7 points this weekend, but our offensive is going to hand over 9 more with turnovers/field position/and lack of ball control. But I still say we win.

Expect a lot of early runs from the Bears, in the hopes of setting up play-action. Portis will have 20+ carries, and at least 110 yards. Cooley will score the first TD for the Redskins this year.

24-6

Portis runs wild yet again EXCEPT this year he gets into the end zone. I read the whole article about the Bears D and if they let someone go by, they are right into the secondary.

2 PR picks give the bears great field position but they settle for FGs. A short td pass and a short td run gives the skins all the points they need to win.

Re: Redskins vs. Bears pre-game/predictions

The over/under on this game is 33 points. If I were a betting man I bet I could make a killing betting the over. I don't know why I feel that way, but I think the Skins will score 28 points or more. I know our team has not put up many points in the preseason, but they did play some stout defensive teams. Everyone says the Bears D is stout, but I think they will get worn down with Portis and the Skins and I just don't see Orden having a lot of success, which should help out on field position and therefore more points. I don't think I see a blow out or anything, but Week 1 is always strange in terms of predictions for points. Skins 30 - Bears 10

TheMalcolmConnection 09-08-2005 10:54 AM

Re: Redskins vs. Bears pre-game/predictions

I wouldn't bet on the over because I don't think the Bears will score any. ;)

I agree. I think it'll be a surprise play. Maybe a playaction to Portis hitting Moss on a slant or I'd LOVE to see a reverse.

Re: Redskins vs. Bears pre-game/predictions

Redskins 20, Bears 14

Bears don't improve their below average defense, yet the Skins don't quite get the bus rolling downhill...

Portis runs for 90+ and a score, while Ramsey tosses for 230 a score (to Cooley of course) and 2 picks, the 2nd one deep in Bears territory, prompting the fans to chant "We want Brunell". Defense gets 2 crucial turnovers late in the game to thwart a Bears comeback, after the 2nd one, when Ramsey comes in to kneel on the ball, chants of "We Want Dallas" fill FedEx Field.

Orton is sacked 3 times, but hits Muhammad in the end zone twice. Neither Thomas Jones or Cedric Benson can get the running game going, and Doug Brien misses 2 field goals in the first half, swinging momentum towards the Skins D.

Re: Redskins vs. Bears pre-game/predictions

I'm usually terrible at this but here goes. redskins 31 bears 20. I love our D, but something tells me things will really open up at some point during the game. This includes a Bears touchdown in the final five minutes.

RedskinRat 09-08-2005 11:24 AM

Re: Redskins vs. Bears pre-game/predictions

I'll err on the side of excitable early season positivity and go 34 - 6 Redskins win.

Our D will only allow field goals and Ramsey will look like he's been doing this forever.

Cue the Pastabelly/King lovefest and "well, what I meant was...."

Re: Redskins vs. Bears pre-game/predictions

Redskins: 31
Bears: 3
Sean Taylor comes on a delayed blitz and hits Orton on the blindside causing a fumble that is scooped up by Lavar and he trundles into the endzone....in the 2nd quarter. Redskins 14, Bears 0 at that point...Once the Bears are one dimensional and have to come back, it's curtains...ya hear...curtains.

And just to clarify, I see our D scoring two TD's.

jermus22 09-08-2005 11:57 AM

Re: Redskins vs. Bears pre-game/predictions

I'm gonna say. . . Redskins 17, Bears 9. This prediction is gonna be a little odd since I'm gonna take a guess at what happens each quarter:

1st Quarter (Chicago 3, Washington 0): Chicago will get off an early drive running the football and throwing screens and short passes. Thomas Jones will account for most of the yards both rushing and receiving, and the screens will capitalize on early blitzes from the Redskins, but da Bears will only manage a field goal. Washington's offense will struggle initially, but find some rhythm in the running game as they mount a time-consuming drive in the closing minutes.

2nd (Washington 7, Chicago 6): Washington's long drive, consisting mostly of runs, will lead to a touchdown at the early/midway point of this quarter. Chicago's offense will falter, but a Redskin turnover will give them good field position and lead to another field goal.

3rd (Washington 10, Chicago 6): Mostly a defensive quarter although Washington's ability to pound the ball and protect the qb will allow us to get another drive (perhaps a punt return from Brown will help). Ramsey will settle down into a short passing attack to complement the running game, allowing us to get another field goal.

4th (Washington 17, Chicago 9): A big special teams play from Jerry Azumah will allow Chicago to get another field goal, but the Bears will fail to make a lot of yards. The final half of the quarter will see Ramsey get in sync with his receivers on a few passes, allowing one final drive with the running and passing game working together to produce a touchdown.

That's my outrageous, stupid prediction (how many people really think all those specifics are gonna happen?). But I had fun doing it anyway. Truth is, I hope we destroy 'em 41-0. :smashfrea

Final score: Redskins 27
Da Bears 13

I expect a score on defense, interception likely.
I think Ramsey will play well but not stellar 12-20-140-1 TD
Portis will have a big game 125 yards or more.
Cooley and Nemo with TD'S

I am a homer but I really have a good feeling about this game.

Defense will give up some big gains but will force FG's.

Lets win this one stay healthy and get ready for Dallas.

Re: Redskins vs. Bears pre-game/predictions

For a serious prediction, I'll say:

Redskins 20
Bears 10

I see us getting on top in this game in the first half and grinding it out. On the opening offensive drive we come out running right at them. Mainly with Portis, but some Betts mixed in. Ramsey hits Cooley and Patten on key 3rd down conversions to sustain the drive. Drive culminates in a short TD pass to Cooley.

First defensive series sets the tone. Thomas Jones and Cedric Benson go nowhere against us. Orton faces too many 3rd and longs and gets blitzed into oblivion.

From that point on we play ball control and call a conservative game, grinding it out on the ground and letting the D win it for us. Ramsey throws an interception that gets run back for a TD, just so we have a QB controversy continue in DC. Come on, can you really see this town without a QB controversy?

But that's the only TD the Bears put up. They get a field goal... maybe.

jermus22 09-08-2005 05:03 PM

Re: Redskins vs. Bears pre-game/predictions

I'm apt to change my prediction and agree with you Schneed. It could end up being a real surprise if Chicago's offense actually puts up more than 3 to 6 points against us.

TheMalcolmConnection 09-08-2005 05:17 PM

Re: Redskins vs. Bears pre-game/predictions

Yeah, I seriously don't think the Bears O will put up more than a field goal or two.

Now Ramsey throwing an INT for a TD, THAT'S another story. I'm trusting him and I think that he'll come out shining.

NM Redskin 09-08-2005 05:23 PM

Re: Redskins vs. Bears pre-game/predictions

My prediction Was 52 Bears 3
Orten get smacked so hard by Taylor you'll see the snot bubbles even on TV. Jones starts off getting nothing and is quickly benched for Benson who ends the day with negative yards. Muhammed gets picked off often and shows he's over the hill.
Portis has another 170 game but adds three TDs. Ramsey throws one and runs one in. Yes you heard it here first, Ramsey with the scramble into the endzone. The defense scores twice and I have a happy Sunday.

As long as the Skins dont turn the ball over at all, and give the Bears good feild position, I agree 100%. I really dont see this Chicago offense getting more than maybe one good drive against our D.

skinsguy 09-08-2005 07:58 PM

Re: Redskins vs. Bears pre-game/predictions

Well, here is my prediction: Redskins 28 Bears 16.

The offense will start off hot as they'll score a touchdown on the opening drive. It will be a classic well balanced attack from Gibb's playcalling. Portis will have a big day - he'll rush for 126 yards and a TD, and Betts will have 48 yards rushing and a TD. Patrick Ramsey will have a decent day - he'll go 18-22, 310 yards, one TD to Cooley in the back of the end zone, one INT. The INT will come at the end of the first half. The Bears will be held to 157 total yards of offense, while 10 of their 16 points will come late in the game during clean up time. The defense will score a TD. Sean Taylor will deflect the ball in to Carlos Rogers' hands and Rogers takes it to th' house to end the game.

So the offense will score 21 points, but the defense will have their opportunity to score as well. My wiser prediction is 17-10, Redskins. LOL!!!!

Ramsey will NOT throw an INT. He will have a productive day something like 15-22, 275yds, 2 td's. Portis will run wild due in part to the new adjustments, 23 carries for 185yds 1 td.

Collin Cowherd was on ESPN a few minutes ago with some of 2005 predictions. Among them, the Skins would suck, Ramsey would fail, and Gibbs would retire (siteing health reasons). I really cannot understand why we are getting this kind of press. We seem to be getting it from all sides (except Joe Theisman), and I really haven't heard anyone of the sportscaster variety that says differently. By all appearances, the team should challenge for a wildcard (with or without Ramsey), and possibly the division depending on the Eagles troubles. I find this absurd...................and they can all eat S..t

The good news is we're only a couple days away from our season long journey of proving these dopes dead wrong!
