What's up with Gibbs?

Check out his 9/17 interview on Redskins.comTV. he seems kinda outta it.. wonder if he's just working hard getting ready for Dallas. Either way he doesn't seem like himself.

Saw it, and thought the same thing, he defiently has his game face on, he's treating this game like it's the super bowl, he has a lot riding on it, between beating the cowboy's, beating Parcells, and proving he's made the right move with Brunell, at least we can't say he's not focused.

Re: What's up with Gibbs?

he looked stressed out to me,he knows this is a big game and if Brunell screws it up its on his shoulders, living in houston I dont see any gibbs interviews, but seeing that worries me,I wonder if he might pull a Vermeil and just say screw it,I quit, its not worth it

Re: What's up with Gibbs?

I don tknow if he's pumped up or stressed out. I'd love to think he is pumped up, but he didnt wanna give that reporter the time of day. I'll just hope he is pumped. But the world is going to come crashing down on him if Brunell dosent perform.

Re: What's up with Gibbs?

Curious, he did look a bit agitated. My dad is diabetic, and even though he regulates his blood sugar really well, there are times occasionally when it gets a bit high or a bit low. He stays right on top of it, as I'm sure Gibbs does. But it definitely affects his mood because he'll start to feel a bit shaky and uncomfortable. Could be that's what drove it.

Then again, he could just be boiling over with intense hatred of Parcells and the Cowboys!

I think he is getting fed up with those same reporters being nice to him in these interviews going out and writing shit like he made stupid choices, has lost it, etc... He will continue to say your not getting full cooperation from me to make your stories and the crap you write. Very prideful man and is going to be coaching with a chip on his shoulder to shut up the speculation about him and his team.

That's an excellent observation. My dad ran for office in 2004, and you could definitely tell which reporters were treating you nicely only to smack you in print. The hardest part about it is that it can't affect your dealings with them. When you talk to a reporter, you are actually talking to the fans (or voters, as the case may be). So even though he knows Nunyo is going to bash him, Gibbs has to smile and answer his questions without complaint.

I think u r right he may have not eaten at the time of the interview and needed to get his blood-sugar up. I hope his son keeps an eye on him and doesn't let him get to out of control

Re: What's up with Gibbs?

Looks to me like he just got finished watching game film of the Cowboys and decided to hit the bottle of Old Grandad. Then, he stumbled out of his office and saw the cameras.

Or maybe he got bored out of his mind with those sleep-inducing questions about Novak, the return game, and Ryan Clark. ... snore...

My guess is he's been burning some serious midnight oil preparing for this game.

I watched it like....3 this morning (couldn't sleep) and thought, wow this isn't Joe Gibbs at all. It really threw me....I'm actually worried.

To me he seemed frustrated with something or really concerned about something. Seemed really antsy, couldn't stay still for some reason.

Re: What's up with Gibbs?

It's Dallas week and he's facing his rival Parcells. Those are two huge motivators for him.

Hasn't anyone had a lot of shit to do and had some idiot asking a bunch of stupid questions? That's all that was. Nothing to be alarmed over. He's taking some heat for his offense, the Dallas game is the second biggest of the year (next to when we have them at home) and he probably was in the middle of 3 different things. I'm not concerned. In today's PC world, you can't just tell a reporter to fuck off, even if his mic says redskins.comTV on it...

That was in the back of my mind too. I think these so called reporters just re-hash the same old bull*** questions just to make it like they are "reporting" news.

I'm convinced more than half the fans on this site could ask more meaningful questions other than, what about this guy or that guy, or do you think the Dallas fans are mad at you? How ridiculous was that question?

My fiancee is diabetic and when her blood sugars are out of wack, she can get kind of cranky. I'm sure with the stress of preparing for Dallas this week, Gibbs is probably burning the candle on both sides....very hard on a diabetic.

joe gibbs is pissed and he wants one thing to cure his anger, which is dallas. he's more focused then ever, i think he's putting more thought into this game than any other one he's coached before, except maybe the superbowl.

Gibbs is Henry Winkler, Parcells is Jerry Reed. Who's gonna be the waterboy and tell Gibbs to brave up against Parcells by thinking of something demure and non-scary?

looked to me like he had eaten some TACO BELL earlier in the day and he needed to get to a toilet as fast as possible before he relaxed his butt-cheeks and brown liquid would start to run down his legs.

skinsguy 09-18-2005 09:44 PM

Re: What's up with Gibbs?

I watched the interview again and I think coach Gibbs has a chip on his shoulder! I don't think that's bad thing however. I think he's starting to lose patience with mediocore players, just like the media and some fans have lost patience with him.

I also think last week's QB switch and Brown being cut is sending a message to the team. If we see a bunch of turnovers tomorrow night, I can guarantee you we'll see more cuts!

SmootSmack 09-19-2005 12:13 AM

Re: What's up with Gibbs?

My feeling is that this is probably a side of Gibbs-tired, cranky, perhaps a bit agitated-that isn't all that uncommon. Yet, we the average fan rarely see it. We usually see Gibbs once he's had a chance to freshen up after a practice or game. I wouldn't worry too much about it, it's just Gibbs Unplugged (or something along those lines)

illdefined 09-19-2005 12:44 AM

Re: What's up with Gibbs?

i like to see any emotion out of coach Gibbs. usually he's so focused on being neutral in front of the media, this means he's focused on other things.

Re: What's up with Gibbs?

Watch Gibbs' press conferences through the week. They're all much more lively and talkative in the early part of the week, and then much more tight and reticent as we get nearer to game day. I don't think this is out of the ordinary--in fact, some Wash. Post article mentioned this pattern (can't remember the date, pretty recent--maybe the one right as the preseason ended?). The guy wants to win--that's all he thinks about all the time. That's why he sleeps in his office, etc. And this is a big game, Monday night, Dallas, the QB situation. Yeah, the man is on edge.

BEAT DALLAS!!!!!

It looked as though Gibbs was fighting a cold of some sort....nose looked a little red and was sniffling etc......probably working those 15+ hour days. I also thought he was pissed they were asking him about the U G L Y comment he made. Very stupid ass questions.

Re: What's up with Gibbs?

heading into a nationally televised road game vs. the franchise's long time dominant rival who's fans he called 'ugly'; coached by his personal long time dominant coach rival, after a hugely disappointing season and then making the quickest QB change in NFL history to last season's worst QB earlier in the week, all while carrying an enormous Hall of Fame legacy...

i'll go out on a limb and say 'pressure'.

Actually, I was wondering about this yesterday. How far into the opener against the Chargers were we when Marty yanked Jeff George for Tony Banks? I can't remember

He yanked him during the opener but started him again the next week against Green Bay.

He ended up cutting him after that.

I guess there's a lesson there, sometimes you have to cut your losses even if it may seem a little crazy at the time.

Cutting your starting QB two weeks into a season isn't something you see very often.

seriously doubt that'd happen with Ramsey

RedskinRat 09-19-2005 04:41 PM

Re: What's up with Gibbs?

Brunell is starting, so it's even less likely that'd happen with this game, or this roster. That team was a pack of hired guns, not team mates.

Sickening, and another reason I'd love to see the Cow-Whores ridden long and hard tonight.

I honestly don't think any of George's teammates liked him....not just with the Redskins, but all the teams he's played with.

If I were a lineman (I'm about 150Lbs short, oh, and probably a foot too short) and my QB was getting roughed up I'd step in, even if I hated him. HE'S OUR GUY.

I never want to see division in our ranks again.
