The official draft poll
|
I was!
I was going to say Draft Taylor! But I wonder about his single digit Wonderlic! I don't feel we need KWII, so that leaves a trade down to pick up more bodies. Why trade up for Gallery, when the Samuels/Whiney combination works for now.
|
My vote is for Taylor. My hope is the front office doesn't outsmart themselves in the draft. Taylor is a rare kind of player who will define the safety position for the next decade along with Williams in Dallas. I know we have other more pressing needs, but this is the kind of pick where you should take the best available player, and Taylor is argueably the best available player in the entire draft. Pull the trigger on Taylor!
|
My pick is Taylor with a top 5 pick you almost have to get the best available. Unless Mike Ditka comes calling with a trade you just cant turn down. But you never know what Coach Gibbs is going to do untill it is time. I think he has a decent poker face on. Regardless of what happens I think we will be pleased. OK maybe some wont.
|
If he really is a single digit Wonderlic then we should absolutely pick him. How smart should a safety be? He's just going to be knocking people on their asses.
|
I know i'm new here, but i'm going to have to disagree. I say take Tommie Harris (DT, Oklahoma). We have a much greater need on the line than we do at saftey, and this kid is the real deal. I know Taylor is a great find, but even if we trade down to get Harris and get another pick/player out of the deal I think that's the best move.
|
Taylor Is Obviously The Pick We Need.a Monster Safety/lb Is A Rare Find.
His Proven Ability To Read Routes Anticipate Wr Decisions And Hit Like A Ton Of Bricks Is Enough For Me. |
Taylor. Like others have said, for a pick this high, take the best player available that will be a force on the team for years. Plus, with Gibbs in charge, who knows when we'll have a pick this high again.....not for a LONG time hopefully!
|
Taylor seems to be the best talent in the draft. With a secondary that will be working together for the first time, improving the talent level can't be a bad thing.
I hope that additional moves are made with the players that have been mentioned here that will allow us to have additional picks, but it won't kill me if they don't - as long as the pick isn't wasted. |
What Do Ya'll Think About Our Second Pick In The 5th?
|
For anyone that has any doubts about Taylors ability think about this: in highschool he obvioulsy played both sides of the ball, had over 100 tackles on defense. But, also set records for having over 1300 rushing yards and 44 touchtowns. Also played as a receiver and was known for having great hands...
Thats why he will make the difference on our team, not because hes any safety that makes the tackle to save the long play, but because of his knack for picking the ball and what he can do with it once he has the ball in his hands. Taylor also blocked a few kicks for Miami last year, I dont know if they would play him on special teams but hes very gifted at seeking out the ball, even if its being punted. |
WHY!! Why in the world are we creating a whole and filling it?!?! If we are going to make a SB run in 3 yrs...its is IMPERATIVE we keep this 5th pick and draft someone! Taylor is the most likely to be a probowler in 2 yrs, so draft him!! Gallery will be a monster, but we have a monster in samuels. We need to do something w/ samuels contract
|
Samuels seems to be a favorite...but he has yet to impress me for the money he makes.Any o-lineman could fill his shoes.I am not encouraging the trade mentioned earlier , but I don't see any reason not to trade him.Joe Gibbs lineman work because they know the system works. In round 5 we might find a lineman that would work better in Gibbs' systen.
|
I started another thread dissuing replacing Samuels and the impact.

If he's the real deal, why did he disapear in every big game he played? being dominated in college usually mean's a non exisistant carreer in NFL, which mean's Not For Long if you let college linemen dominate you. I think to many are getting wrapped up in his physical attributes rather than looking at him as a football player, which goes the same for taylor, only in the opposite direction. |
Yea there are so many college players to but up big numbers but whenever they play against an elite college team they are shut out. The great players are those that dominate against the elite college teams. I wonder about Fitzgerald becuase of how I saw him play against Miami, but at the same time Pitt didnt have a second receiver.

I'm starting to agree about drafting taylor but I'd also be for trading down to garner more picks. I've read that the skins r high on w. smith of "the Ohio State University."(why do people say it like that anyways?) he would be an awesome pass rushing de with the strength and awareness to also play the run. I've also heard good things about udeze and it's true that he came to USC as a DT. He lost over 80 pounds and became a pass-rushing beast of a DE. That says a lot to me about his desire to play the game where the team needs him. And hopefully with a trade down we could pick up Grove if lucky but if not a solid safety(the guys from georgia or purdue that a couple people have mentioned) or a good lb that has the capabilities to possibly be our starting MLB if holdman doesn't sign. But all that said I'm starting to wonder how awesome it could be to have a rod woodson type safety picking off the ball and having a chance to run it back for a big play each time. Taylor may not be the sledgehammer type tackler a lot of people r saying he is, but he tackles well enough to get the job done and his hands and awareness will be his main strength. Taylor and Gallery r probably the 2 closest things in this draft to bonafide NFL players.
|
I am surprised that Winslow Jr. has not received any votes on this poll yet.
My vote is Taylor! Regarding trading down and taking a defensive lineman, Will Smith and Udeze are the only two I would like to see the Skins try to get (in that order). Will Smith has a quicker first step and is closer to the speed rusher we need. Plus Will Smith did more reps on the bench press work out than Udeze did, which implies he is stronger and probably works out more. Not putting the PAC 10 down, but Will Smith played in the Big 10 which has historically more powerful offensive lineman and emphasizes the run like in the NFL. The Big 10 teams, top to bottom provides more of a test to its defensive lineman than the PAC 10 does. The PAC 10 is historically more of a pass first league. |
while i agree with you on your overall assessment of the Pac 10, i wouldn't generalize Udeze based on such. He wrecked havoc on the so-called "best of the Big 10" in the rose bowl with three sacks on Navarre and his line. I'm not sure anyone has better burst than BKU either.

Who said trade up for Gallery?
|
trading up for gallery is sow... hahaha, can't believe someone voted for it. i can't believe we'd give up both samuels and the 5 to relieve cap space. we drafted samuels at 3 his year, so this is recockulous.
|
Who remembers what we gave up to get Samuels. I knwo we had to do something to trade down to three but I dont remeber what it was.
|
Hmm, now with the release of Chamberlin...What are you thinking Mr. Gibbs, help us get rid of some of this suspense
|
Who remembers what we gave up to get Samuels. I knwo we had to do something to trade down to three but I dont remeber what it was.
I think we traded the 12th and 24th overall picks to San Fran |
so we had three first round picks that year?
|
so we had three first round picks that year?
I'm pretty sure we did. I think it stemmed from losing Sean Gilbert for draft picks and giving up the rights to Ricky Williams for draft picks. Of course, I could be just mixing up my skins draft history |
Yea we got two for Sean Gilbert, and Champ had somethign to do with the Ricky deal. I think we traded down to 7 the year before to get champ and give up the rights to Ricky, then got the pick the next year as compensation. So many picks have been given up for Ricky...Miami gave up what, another two first rounders for him.

I always watch him play, being that he is from my home town, and I noticed alot of dbl teaming of him which is probably what you want with Griffin in the middle and Daniels on the end. If we can put pressure on the QB it puts our already decent secondary in a position to make plays on the ball, rather than to react all the time. You don't have to have superstar safties to get to the dance, (look at Carolina) but you do have to put pressure on the QB and be able to stop the run. We can't do that now, and to me that's our biggest need is dline. |
Yes, I am the only Winslow vote! I say give Gibbs the best weapon at the key position, and fix the D next year. KW II is a game breaker at H-back, and Gibbs is the H-back wizard.
Yeah, I know, the postons will ruin this one, but he'd be the right fit if we can get him in camp... |
...yea the Postons did ruin that one. I hope when KWII was at Redskin park they asked him if he wanted to be a Redskins, why he got those agents, and if he would hold out. Id flat out tell the kid that he istn going to get drafted and will have to forgit millions if he gives any indication that he would hold out.
|
Has to be Taylor. A monster S scaring the s*** out of all who dare step into his zone will make all opposing receivers and backs think about him, and will make offensive co-ordinators take him into account too.

I started a thred with this link, but mabye I should put it here to. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/football/168970_draft14.html
See if this makes people rethink their vote at all |
