Re: Where's LaVar
I don't know. I thought I saw lavar in there on that first running play chase down jones from the near side of the field, and I saw a couple of pictures of him on the field on redskins.com, but I didn't see him in and playing much. I'd really like to see more of him.

Re: Where's LaVar

Re: Where's LaVar

Could it be he's overated, and can't earn his way on the field? |
Re: Where's LaVar
LaVar was on the feild a bit last night. He was rotating in and out in some packages, and on a early play caused a little confusion in the Dallas backfeild. Warrick Holdman was the starter though.

Re: Where's LaVar
I think this is about the 4th where was LaVar thread we've had since Monday night.
He's being slowly worked back in to the mix. Next topic. |
Re: Where's LaVar
I highly doubt Lavar is overrated..!! He's a gamer & last year they sent him back in & he reinjured the knee & was lost for the season.
I saw him playing in the nickel packages all night. Lavar will be back playing down after down once the coaches agree he can handle the load & make the plays he capable of making. |

I'd rather he stayed safe until he was 100% and could play consistently at his top level. |
Re: Where's LaVar
Yes, I believe that they are bringing him along nice and easy to avoid further injury similar to what transpired last season. If we lost an impact player on the defense this season already it could become a potentially more troubling situation further down the road. I just hope that he is healing fast and well and that he doesn't sustain any further injury before he is back at 100% and playing a dominant role on the field again. AMEN!
I would much prefer that as opposed to him sustaining another season ending injury so that he is rehabing instead of being able to gradually become more of an impact player throughout the course of the season. Heal Fast Lavar, but don't rush it this time!!!!! Our defense needs you as you are truly one of the biggest impact players in the league!!!!! :) Don't worry he will become dominant again as soon as he is fully recovered. |
Re: Where's LaVar
Listen guys, I know Lavar is a fan favorite and such and in the past years has done great things for our organization. He is great with the media and in community service.
I really think he has lost a step with this knee problem. I would love to have that lethal weapon in his old form, but I really dont see it. Believe me, I hope I'm wrong, but I dont know if he will ever be the same player.... |

Re: Where's LaVar
the thing that was wierd to me was when they showed the starters and they said where they were from, and lavar was not one of them. not sure what it is, but something is definitely up. maybe he should of been practicing instead of going to wal-mart, or maybe he just doesn't understand the team concept of greg williams defense. oh, and one more observation, did anyone see when a LB got hurt and had to leave the game? Lavar was standing right next to williams...and instead of putting him in...he went with a third stringer....seems weird to me.

clemons is a second stringer ;) I think lavar just probably isn't healthy or up to speed on the defense yet (he missed LOTS of practice time). If he really isn't going to ever see the field, he'll probably be traded... but then you'd want him to make big plays to get something for him. I'm going with not healthy, check back in 3 weeks though. |

I agree I think if Lavar lost a step we would not have signed an extension and have moved him by now b/c he gets paid a shitload. |
Re: Where's LaVar
They're being cautious at this point. If he had lost that big of a step that he couldnt start anymore, they'd be searching for a way to cut their losses. Sean Taylor didnt start the first few games last year and he had a stellar preseason. He just didnt practice as much as the other guy and didn't seem to have the chemistry in the backfield as the other safety. Lavar is extremely intellegent and atheletic. Even if he did lose a step, he'd be as good as Washington. Lets not forget that in a sub-par scheme he was elite.

Re: Where's LaVar
I think that Williams always talks highly of him. He is probably hurting some and Holdman is probably playing well. Williams wants Lavar to rush the passer which, for a guy Lavars size, takes great legs.
I believe Lavar was not upset with his playing time to much because after Santana's 2nd TD he cuaght him coming back to the bench and picked him up because he was so happy. He wasn't pouting or anything. He knew why he wasn't playing. Hopefully we see a healthy Lavar terrorizing QBs in the near future. |
Re: Where's LaVar
I'm sure Lavar is sore that he wasnt any part of beating Dallas at home in the last 9 years. I'm sure he wanted to do something the night they inducted Aikman into the ring. Lavar might come along slow but he will have an impact sooner than later. I do believe he's probable to freelance at times and that doesn't help his cause. We had the #3 D without him and beat Dallas at home on Monday night without him. He can only help when he comes back healthy if he plays his position.

Re: Where's LaVar
The Redskins are just sticking to their word and being careful about how much playing time LaVar gets early on. After last year's reinjury problems, they want to make sure that knee is 100% solid before they put him back on the pre-injury workload.
It also looks like LaVar is still a little tentative in Williams' scheme, so I'm sure that's slowing down the process. Until LaVar has a complete grasp of his assignments, Holdman's going to be in more packages, and Williams is going to tend to favor the Holdman packages over the LaVar packages. Given the incentives in his new deal-- not to mention LaVar's burning passion to play-- I'm sure he's working his tail off trying to get back to full-speed both physically and mentally. |
Re: Where's LaVar
I don't know how much stock can be placed in the Wash/Times article in today's paper about LaVar but according to it things are rather confusing about him. He dosen't seem to be satisfied with the way things are going as far as his playing time is concerned, and seems like he's on the wagon again. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how things turn out.
