Uniforms

Hey guys this is completely off the subject of anything going on right now, but does anyone have any insight on if the Skins will ever wear any other uniform this year besides the White tops, Red bottoms we see every week? They wear them at home and on the road. Other than the Dallas home game, where Dallas wore their alternate uni's and therefore allowed the Skins to go White on Red again, I don't see them wearing anything but White on Red the rest of the season. I would love to see a different combination or see them wear those 70th aniversery uni's again. It may just be me, but I wish they wore Red tops and White bottoms at home.

Re: Uniforms

Gibbs always has us wear our away uniform exept when Dalass wears white at home to disrupt his plan. So as far as I know...next year at Dalass will be our next shot at home tops

Re: Uniforms

Very very seldom do we ever wear anything else but White jerseys on burgundy pants....

Might be a thing where darker colors attract heat..I dunno..even though jerseys have "breathe" holes in them..that's about the best reason I can come up with other than saying that is just how Gibbs likes his team to look.

70th annis would be great, it wouldn't hurt my feeling if they went to those permantley.
how about the red bottoms and tops?or annis top and reg red bottoms? all white once in a while is cool too.i think it's time for design change. they've had the same uni's sinse gibbs 1st term.

Re: Uniforms

With Gibbs I would expect to only see the white jerseys at home and the reds away.

I highly doubt we would see any sort of alternates worn while he's here.

Personally I like the white jerseys at home, but that's what I grew up on. I never got used to seeing the reds at home.

Re: Uniforms

I guess I brought this up, because I too would like to see a change every once in awhile and it seems like Mr. Snyder is missing out on an opportunity to sell jersey's. There for awhile Daniel Snyder seem to take his lead from Jerry Jones on marketing and other stuff and Jerry seems to promote the Cowboys alternate uni's. At least he did against the Skins on that Monday night. I guess maybe it is the only thing about the Cowboys that I like. There, I have said it and feel bad about it, but it is the truth!

Somehow, Scowan, you still make Jerry seem.............well, plastic!

We won't see the burgandy jerseys unless the opponents' wear their white jerseys at their home stadium. DAL didn't.

Re: Uniforms

The Rams game I think would be the only game this year we might see the Burgundy jerseys. Even Arizona has switched to a red home jersey.

Re: Uniforms

My opinion on the uniforms is that little to no change is better. Our uniforms haven't changed appreciably since 1979 (according to Football Uniforms Past and Present). That fact visually links today's team to the championship teams which I think is a good thing. The lack of change indicates pride, personal security and a value of tradition. I'll take those over marketing opportunities any day. Of course, resurecting one of the past combos wouldn't be a bad thing either. I would love to see the gold circle "R" helmets in use.

Re: Uniforms

I guess the thing I question is that there are so many places (stores and online) where you can buy a RED Away Redskins jersey, but you will never see the team wear it? Or at least not that often. I can't believe that Mr. Snyder, the opportunist that he is, would not shake that up a bit to earn an extra buck. Maybe jersey sales for the Skins are in good shape. I like what the Bills did the first of the season and the Chargers with their throwback uni's for select games. It also seems like the NFL has made a point of teams playing on Thanksgiving recently wearing throwbacks.

Re: Uniforms

The only opportunity to see the Redskins in their burgundy jerseys this season could be the away games at Arizona, Tampa Bay, and Philly. But that all depends on whether they choose to wear whites at home.

The weather does have a lot to do with it. For the opening game in Jacksonville, Jack Del Rio had his Jaguars to wear white to reflect the heat. The same is basically true for many warm-weather climate teams. Miami, San Diego, Arizona, and Tampa Bay all usually wear whites at home when it's oppressively hot.

Against the Chargers a couple of weeks ago, the Patriots wore their white jerseys at home -- the first time I've ever seen that. Other teams that sometimes do it are Philly, Carolina, and Tennessee. To my knowledge though, St. Louis always wears their dark jerseys at home.

I'm with you, scowan. I'd also like to see burgundy jerseys at home -- but change to white jerseys and burgundy pants only for the home game against Dallas. If I ran the team, the white jerseys/white pants combination would be the permanent away jersey. As far as alternate or throwback uniforms go, I'd rather not see the Skins do that. I wasn't crazy about the 70th Aniversery uniforms with the spear logo anyway. I loved it during Schottenheimer's short time here because in that season, the Skins wore burgundy jerseys 10 times, (eight home games, and against the Chargers and Cowboys) with only 6 games in white. That was a nice change-up.

Re: Uniforms

I think the white jersey/white pants look should make an appearance one weekend, seeing as how we've been wearing the same look since '79 that was a refreshing change.

The 70th anniversary unis were tight, but since they were tied to the 70th anniversary of the team they immediately became dated. Probably Snyder's biggest mistake, he'd have been better off making those unis alternate jerseys and thus he'd have gotten more than one season out of them.

I'm almost curious about seeing the red jerseys with the red pants, on second thought lets stick with what we've got. I like Atlanta on Madden, but 13 jersey choices is a bit much.

hasn't tampa been wearing their whites at home, maybe when we play them they might pull them out but that was probally b/c it was hot before, by everything should cool down....well every thing but SANTANA MOSS!!!!!

Re: Uniforms

I contacted the NFL about this subject a couple of years ago. They told me that the teams must submit a list of what color jerseys they will be wearing each game at home before the season starts. If you remember last season Denver was fined for “Forgetting” to pack their dark jersey's for a road game at San Diego. San Diego wanted to wear their white at home because of the heat. They also told me that the teams were only allowed to wear their 3rd jerseys at home and not on the road. That rule must have been changed this season as we have seen Carolina wear their blue jersey’s on the road a couple of times this season so far. Also there are no rules as to what color pants they wear, that’s why you see the teams alternate between colored and white ones.

Beemnseven 10-20-2005 04:05 PM

Re: Uniforms

Why couldn't teams like the Cowboys and Redskins wear their dark colors against each other? Now, it obviously wouldn't work with the Cardinals and Skins, or the Giants and Cowboys, but it'd be cool every now and then to see that.

Beemnsteven, probably the only thing I liked out of the Steve Spurrier era of the Skins was the White on White away jerseys. I would just like to see a change every now and then. Unfortunately with Gibbs calling the shots, we will probably never see it. Spurrier did not care about little things like that, but I get the feeling that EVERYTHING with Gibbs is done with a purpose in mind including jerseys. Does anyone know of a way we could get a message to him that we would like to see a change? Or at least find out what the players think. For all I know they may love the look they wear now and hate the Red tops, and White bottoms look.

I like the white jersey and burgundy pants. It's old school 80's style Gibbs. I just wish we'd go back to the curled feather on the helmet. That was cool.

I read once, and it may have been here at The Warpath, that Gibbs preferred the white jerseys because his quarterbacks could apparently spot them better in the shadows that sometimes fell on parts of the field at RFK stadium. That doesn't mean he couldn't use the white pants at home though.
Does anyone know of a way we could get a message to him that we would like to see a change?
On Sportstalk 980, every Monday night at 6pm eastern, you can hear the Joe Gibbs show with Bram Weinstein. They take call-ins, but I bet it's pretty hard to get through. That would be the only way I know of to talk to Gibbs personally and ask him.

I was just about to mention the white on white uniforms. They were sharp during the Spurrier era, but I doubt Gibbs will retry that combination.

Red jerseys at home for the Skins is just WRONG. I hated when we did it under Marty, and I hope we never go back.

Ol' Marty thought he was still in Kansas City. He tried to relive his coaching past.

Man, for the longest time I've been waiting for this forum to come up! I would LOVE for us to go with the 70th. anniversary unis. They look so much more intimidating than the ones we wear now. It has been said that if you look good you play good. I'm a firm believer in that, and I think the majority of the players feel the same way. The uniforms we wear now are so dated and 80's. The 70th. anniversary uniforms are way more progressive.

I can't imagine Gold Jerseys either, but we did see a taste of it on the QBs during training camp. (Gold with Red letters) As far as spoting receivers, I bet they would stand out like a stop light! I would like to see Gold pants and White shirts. The 70s retro look is cool.....ask the Chargers! I have a Joe Thiesman rookie card and he is wearing gold pants with a red stripe and a white jersey with red letters.

I can't think of any football team in college or pro that have yellow or gold jerseys as the primary team color.

Yellow is fine as a secondary color, but it has always been associated with fear, or cowardess.
