Pro Football Hall of Fame releases list of possible 2006 Inductees

Once again, Art Monk has made the list of potential Hall of Famers. He is joined by other former Redskins, such as Gary Clark, Russ Grimm, Irving Fryar, Ken Harvey, Charles Mann, Joe Jacoby, Dexter Manley, and other players who spent parts of their careers with the team. As many of you are aware, we sponsor an online petition to support Art's induction into the Hall of Fame. The link is here. I urge those of you who have not signed the petition to do so, and encourage your friends and family to do likewise. It seems each year the malcontent voices of football experts rise up to tell how pedestrian a player Art Monk was - it's time we shouted back. Thank you, Brud Lee |

i've already signed the petition, but if i sign it again, will it help? hopefully we get some peeps in there this year.

I erase the duplicate signatures. My plan is to send the petition off to Peter King, Dr. Z, and the loud naysayers to remind them that theirs isn't the only criteria that matters. If there are a bunch of duplicates, or "Mickey Mouse" signatures, it doesn't really help the cause. |
Re: Pro Football Hall of Fame releases list of possible 2006 Inductees
What a list. It looks like it could be a cowturd class with Aikman, Johnson, and Irvin. I will just puke if that happens.

Re: Pro Football Hall of Fame releases list of possible 2006 Inductees
Let's look at the first year eligibles:
Troy Aikman (because of the Super Bowls, he's in) Bruce Armstrong Ben Coates (HA!) Dermonti Dawson Irving Fryar Cortez Kennedy Warren Moon (I'm almost thinking lock) Andre Reed Clyde Simmons Neil Smith Thurman Thomas Jessie Tuggle Reggie White (i'm thinking lock) Out of this group, I'd say Aikman, Moon and White first ballot, Dawson and Armstrong possibly in the future, and Thurman Thomas is a maybe. |
Re: Pro Football Hall of Fame releases list of possible 2006 Inductees
I like that Monk's picture is front and center at the top!

You can make a case for most of the others, but none of them look to be first ballot guys. |
Re: Pro Football Hall of Fame releases list of possible 2006 Inductees
It's a list of some GREAT Redskins. It would be great to see them inducted. Harold Carmichael........Watching Pat Fischer wrap himself around him like some............rabid ferret takes me back! Cool

Re: Pro Football Hall of Fame releases list of possible 2006 Inductees
I have no problem with Aikman making it. The thing that will piss me off is if Irvin makes it before Monk. Monk leads Irvin in all stats except yards per catch and you can attribute that to how they were used. I was sick when I learned Irvin made it farther in the voting last year than Monk. You can attribute that to Irvin's mouth and the fact that he is an announcer. Monk by far has more class than Irvin and deserves to be in the HOF before Irvin(who was repeatedly in trouble off the field). Thanks for starting the petition I hope it makes a difference and puts him over the top.

Andre Reed was also a redskin for a year or two

Re: Pro Football Hall of Fame releases list of possible 2006 Inductees
I believe Aikman is a Hall of Fame player, but a QB who holds no records, never dominated statistically, and was surrounded by as much talent as he was isn't a "lead pipe lock" for the Hall on his first ballot.
This isn't a "Slam Aikman" feeling - he plays an overvalued position, and while he was very good at it, I don't know that he was dominant in his era at the position. He should and will be inducted, but he's no slam dunk. |
Re: Pro Football Hall of Fame releases list of possible 2006 Inductees
Aikman was a media darling.
He led the Cowboys to 3 titles and they were a true dynasty in the 90s. I'd be shocked if he didn't get in first ballot. |
Re: Pro Football Hall of Fame releases list of possible 2006 Inductees
Monk was more dominate than Aikman period. It is one of the most dreadful travesties in sports today: A guy who is like top 5 in almost every significant category doesn't get the props he deserves. Makes me sad to think about it.

Difference is Aikman played QB, the ultimate glamour position in all of sports. His stats are pretty decent, but the rings and his winning % put him over the top. |

His teams usually had the lead going into the final quarter so he never really had to dig deep and pull out some miraculous comeback, a la Elway. So should that be held against him? |

Passing Attempts: 6823 Passing Comp: 3988 Comp %: 58.4% Passing Yards: 49325 Passing TD: 291 For each catagory this is where he is ranked among the others. Passing Attempts: 4th, only Favre, Elway, Marino ahead of him Passing Comp: 4th, with the same 3 ahead of him Passing Yards: 4th, with the same 3 ahead of him Passing TD: 5th, with the same 3 ahead of him plus Tarkenton So if you look at the company he is with, he is more than deserving of a 1st time ballot to make the HOF. Nevertheless, the offensive leader of a true dynasty (no free agancy crap ala the patriots) with three rings - one SB MVP - who we still see every week on TV, (and isn't making an a$$ of himself like Irvin) is getting in first ballot slam dunk, thanks for coming, who do we vote on next? Monk should be in as should Irvin. I don't wanna throw the race card in but..... I don't want to get into the HOF argument, cause there are a lot of people who think that with 5 rings, the Cowboys should have more players in the Hall. I don't know. |
Re: Pro Football Hall of Fame releases list of possible 2006 Inductees
monk leads irvin in every category (yards, TDs, he also has 3 SB rings), so you do agree monk should go in first?

A truly bitter Cboy fan. Salary cap dynasty of the Pats is amazing. Proving to me that Belichek was needed by Parcells much like Buiddy Ryan was needed by Ditka. |

Too bad when I sign it, it brings up a page not found! Conspiracy I tell ya!

Monk should probably go in first, but he has been on the ballot a bit so that starts to count against you. |

Stimulating response. I'm not a big HOF guy. Not really my thing. |

The Ravens? The Patriots first SB when even Belichek was amazed that they won? Buddy Ryan didn't win much without Ditka either. Let's see how Belichek does without HIS very important Coordinators - Crennell and Weis - two men who ALSO learned at the feet of Parcells. |
Re: Pro Football Hall of Fame releases list of possible 2006 Inductees
I'm thinking Parcells misses Belichek rather than visa versa.
On Bill has 2 SB rings The other 5 |
