Portis & Taylor's socks

I haven't seen this mentioned here yet and was just wondering what kind of fines they will be slapped with by the NFL? Anyone have any idea how much money they threw away on socks? Also wondering if the Miami over VA Tech game had any impact on our ex-hurricanes? Anyone else have any thoughts?

Re: Portis & Taylor's socks

by now, for those 2...the fines are probably a grand or 2 for uniform violation.

i thought it was around 10,000 dollars

I heard it was 2,500$$

Re: Portis & Taylor's socks

i believe they were fined 10,000 last year but i don't know if that is standard or if that is a repeat offender type fine.

Re: Portis & Taylor's socks

I heard on Charles Mann's post game show, that the fines will probably be in the 10k range because thet also wore black shoes, instead of white shoes, in addition to the socks.
I have holes in my socks.
atleast you didn't have to pay 10,000 dollars to wear them

Re: Portis & Taylor's socks

lol getting fined 10,000 dollars for wearing some different socks would really suck. but hey, they are being free spirited, and as long as they can pay the fine, i'm perfectly happy with it.

I think they'll probably fined around 10k

i like how sean taylor wanted more money in the offseason, but then he just throws away 10 grand on socks

I'm sure he writes it off, as it goes to charity anyway.

The fine is $10k.

I have no idea why they feel they need to do this. Someone in the organization needs to pull these guys aside and tell them they look like unprofessional idiots.

I actually get a kick out of it. It's just something different...

What was the deal with the socks, anyway? Just a lark? A Miami thing? (did Santana do it too?)

Re: Portis & Taylor's socks

I like it. I dont mind the guys having a little fun and doing their own thing this way. Remember last year when Portis did this and then before you knew it 75% of the team came out in burgandy socks as a sign of unity. Whatever makes them belive they will play better is fine by me.

Re: Portis & Taylor's socks

If they don't have a problem coughing up the cash, then what the hell do I care?

For style points, I'd go with Portis over Taylor.

Re: Portis & Taylor's socks

I agree with Matty except I liked Taylor over Portis. Taylor was being festive with his candy-cane socks!

Either way, this is their way to donate to chairty.

No, Santana Moss didn't have them.

Where's a poll when you need one?

I vote for Portis. Anyone know where I can get replica socks? That's going to be my "Friday Skins Flair" this week.

Re: Portis & Taylor's socks

A buddy of mine was wearing burgundy and gold argyle socks on gameday. I'd like to see Portis in those -- kind of an Andre 3000 look.

Maybe they should only be permitted to wear random sock styles after a win.

Not everyday you get a comparison between Pippi-Long-Stocking (that Scandinavian tramp!) and Sean Taylor.

Well done you literate auld sod!

Last year they did this twice and the first week they were fined $5,000 the next week they were fined $10,000. This is really throwing money away.

There is a reason the call it a uniform. I love the players, but there is no i in TEAM.

Well said!

Each of the players is paying his own fine, so it doesn't affect any of us, other than for style points!

I agree, a poll is in order! Portis over Taylor, imho!

I'd vote for Taylor... just because he looked goofy, and he's probably not a guy that you want to be laughing at too much, if you're on an opposing offense.

20K for Portis. 5K for Taylor

20k I think the NFL is trying to make a statement. You have to wear matching shoes.

If the NFL had any sense they would impose suspensions, that would ensure it didn't happen again.
If the NFL had any sense they would impose suspensions, that would ensure it didn't happen again.
Suspending someone for different colored socks would be just plain stupid. The uproar from the fans and players union alone is enough to keep them from ever trying it. Plus, it's easy money. Why suspend someone, and create a media circus and massive headache, when you can make a quick 20k in fines, that even the player could care less about.

They don't really make the money. It's donated to charities, making it an even BETTER reason for Portis and Taylor to wear them.
