Mid Point Awards

Half way through, who/what is your REDSKIN,

1. MVP -

2. Biggest Surprise -

3. Biggest Dissapointment -

4. Best Move (can be personel, strategy) -

5. Worst Move (can be personel, strategy) -

I say in order

1. Santana Moss
2. 5-3 record against a tough schedule
3. Giants loss
4. Yanking out Ramsey and starting Brunell
5. Clinton's lack of production (I'm not ignoring his hustle and toughness)

1. MVP - Brunell/Moss

2. Biggest Surprise - Brunell

3. Biggest Dissapointment - defensive line

4. Best Move (can be personel, strategy) - 1) Moss for Coles, 2) making Brunell the starter

5. Worst Move (can be personel, strategy) - 1) Not having an open QB competition in camp, 2) not upgrading the defensive line.

1. Moss

2. Brunell

3. Oline

4. Ramsey benched

5. Lack of; not bringing in a true blocking TE like gibbs used to have in don warren.

Re: Mid Point Awards

1. MVP - Santana Moss. The numbers don't lie.

2. Biggest Surprise - Mark Brunell having a pulse, much less an arm.

3. Biggest Dissapointment - The inability to close the pocket on defense.

4. Best Move (can be personnel, strategy) - The open rotation of Portis and Betts. We've never had to look at a tired RB in our backfield. Not many teams can say that.

5. Worst Move (can be personnel, strategy) - Not upgrading the D line.

Re: Mid Point Awards

1.Moss/Brunell
2.Moss/Brunell I think for the first two I had to pick both because Moss would not have the big plays without Brunells passing and Brunell who would have known that he would be playing lights out football after last year.
3.D Line
4.Switching to Brunell
5.After watching our D the first half I will now have to say letting go of Pierce.

Re: Mid Point Awards

1. MVP - Brunell and Moss, can't split them.

2. Biggest Surprise - Winning in Dallas.

3. Biggest Disapointment - Losing in NY.

4. Best Move (can be personel, strategy) - Moss for Coles.

5. Worst Move (can be personel, strategy) - Letting Pierce go.

Re: Mid Point Awards

Santana Moss--he's opened up the offense with his speed and play-making abilities
Mark Brunell (again)--what an amazing comeback; he's shown real toughness and leadership
Antonio Brown--I think everyone thought he's was gonna be a weapon on special teams and in the offense
Mike Sellers in the red zone--he's been a beast as a receiver, runner, and blocker
Not finding a pash rusher for DL in the middle rounds of the draft--Manuel White is out with injury (plus Cooley, Royal, and Sellers are doing fine without him); we still don't have a pass rusher on the line

Re: Mid Point Awards

I agree with you guys on a lot here...

1. MVP - Brunell/Moss

2. Biggest Surprise - Sellers, I KNEW that Brunell had it one time, but I NEVER thought that Sellers had it.

3. Biggest Dissapointment - Run defense.

4. Best Move (can be personel, strategy) - 1) Moss for Coles, 2) making Brunell the starter

5. Worst Move (can be personel, strategy) - 1) Picking Jason Campbell in the draft when there were other glaring needs.

Re: Mid Point Awards

1. Moss-He could go under biggest surprise as well
2. Patten-A disappointing surprise
3. Jacobs-Yet again
4. Implementing the Shotgun-It's really added a whole new dimension to the offense
5. Still need a pass rusher

JoeRedskin 11-08-2005 11:57 AM

Re: Mid Point Awards

1. MVP - Moss, with a nod to Brunnell. Moss transformed the offense with his deep threat ability and, again with a nod to Brunnell, won the Dallas game. Given our previous QB situation, it's hard to give the MVP to a WR because Brunnell has been so key in the offense's rejuvination but, w/o Moss, Brunnell would not have the numbers he has.

2. Biggest Surprise - Brunnell. He can actually throw the ball deep and accurate. Who woulda thunk it? Not a Ramsey backer like me (BTW - I am a convert).

3. Biggest Dissapointment - The defensive line. I know they have been struck by injuries and not much was expected of them - but they seem to have set their expectations low and then failed to meet them.

4. Best Move (can be personel, strategy) - Santanna Moss. Duh!!!

5. Worst Move (can be personel, strategy) - Tough one. For now, I'll say giving up next year's number 1 pick for Campbell. Campbell may pan out but, for now, I will go with that as, at 5-3 with a win in Dallas and a victory over the Eagles, I am very satisfied with the team as a whole.

We have had a tough schedule in the first half and come out okay. If we can do one game better during the second half we are a lock for the playoffs. The second half schedule is, to me, just as tough as the first half but I think we are a better team (despite the NY debacle).

Crossing my fingers for the future.

Re: Mid Point Awards

MVP - Moss by far.

Biggest Surprise - Mark Brunell

Biggest Dissapointment - D-Line....lack of sacks/stopping the run

Best Move - Benching Ramsey and starting Brunell

1.Moss 2.Brunell 3.lack of pressure d line/lack of crunch time running o line 4.sanata moss 5.not upgrading d line and oline depth, cb depth

Re: Mid Point Awards

A couple things I didn't remember/think about - Antonio Brown and Jacobs as "dissapointments" and the shotgun as a "best move."

Re: Mid Point Awards

1. MVP - Moss

2. Biggest Surprise - BRUNELL

3. Biggest Dissapointment - Running game

4. Best Move (can be personel, strategy) - Gibbs belief in Brunell

5. Worst Move (can be personel, strategy) - Nothing MAJOR-need D line help, pass rusher

Re: Mid Point Awards

1. Moss
2. Brunnell
3. Portis
4. Recognizing Ramsey could not get the job done before the season was lost.
5. Giving away draft picks for Campbell. The team had bigger holes that needed filling.

skindogger47 11-08-2005 02:17 PM

Re: Mid Point Awards

1. Moss
2. Going 2-1 in the division, with our victories being at Dallas and vs. Philly
3. Phillip Daniels, cutting Ron Warner
4. Starting Brunell over Ramsey in Game 2
5. Not running Portis to the outside enough.

Re: Mid Point Awards

In an attempt to not cut/paste the previous 12 posts verbatim, here are some not-so-obvious selections:

1. MVP - Offense (Clinton Portis - all around effort - blocking, hussle, heart) & Defense (Marcus Washington - heart & soul of our defense - leads by example)

2. Biggest Surprise - Offense (Chris Cooley - showed signs last year, but really turned it on this year) & Defense (Lamar Marshall - while not Pro-bowl caliber, he's made us forget about Pierce)

3. Biggest Dissapointment - Offense (Taylor Jacobs - time to cut our losses here) & Defense (Pass Rush - we ain't got none)

4. Best Move (can be personel, strategy) - Gibbs benching Arrington early on - set the tone that the Team comes first. Also, I would commend Arrington's handling of the situation - he is no T.O. Additionally, the front office finally established that we are not going to overpay anymore for players even if it cost us Smoot and Pierce. Too late??

5. Worst Move (can be personel, strategy) - Not trading Ramsey while he still had the potential to get us a 1st rounder. Now we would be lucky for a 5th rounder. Second, drafting a CB early in the draft when we already had Springs and THE Ade on the roster - what a waste!!

Re: Mid Point Awards

1. MVP - Santana Moss
(He has ignited the offense. He has changed the defensive scheme of other teams.)
2. Biggest Surprise - Mark Brunnel
(I thought he was washed up. Obviously he was hampered by his injuries.)
3. Biggest Disappointment - Chris Samuels
(I think he is a good tackle but he's not keeping his man away from Brunnel's passing side. He has been battling injuries. His blocking is very important for a left hand QB.)
4. Best Move - Benching Holdman and starting Arrington
(This may have been delayed by Arrington's work habits or lack of conditioning but its going to bring the defense back to elite status.)
5. Worst Move - Trading Champ Bailey and a draft pick for Clinton Portis
(Okay I'm going back a year but I still haven't gotten over it. This move forced the Skins to draft a cornerback and not a pass rushing defensive end. Ladell Betts is more suited to the Skins running style. I'm not impressed with Portis field awareness. I'm not saying he is a bust, I think the team gave up too much.)

Re: Mid Point Awards

1) Moss-opened up our offense
2)Brunnell-after last year I thought he was done
3) The Giant game- with a chance to get 1st place and lay such an egg
4)Switching Ramsey for Brunnell
5)not aquiring somebody who could put pressure on opposing QB's

Gmanc711 11-08-2005 03:06 PM

Re: Mid Point Awards

1. MVP - Santana Moss

2. Biggest Surprise - Mark Brunell. Far and away.

3. Biggest Dissapointment - LaVar Arrington for the first 6 games of the year

4. Best Move (can be personel, strategy) - L.Coles for Santana Moss

5. Worst Move (can be personel, strategy) - Keeping Arrington on the bench.

Re: Mid Point Awards

all the campbell stuff, i get what u guys are saying

but brunell is old as shit. he has maybe 1 or 2 seasons left at best

we arent planning just for one year, so the campbell move at this point is a good move to me

but if thats the biggest mistake weve made then id say we are doing a pretty good job :)
