Taylor Jacobs/Wash Times
Jacobs, however, didn't take advantage of his first start in a two-wideout set. He caught just three passes for 17 yards as the Redskins lost to the Oakland Raiders 16-13 at FedEx Field.
"It was very disappointing," Jacobs said. "The corner would be real close to you at the line of scrimmage, and at the snap of the ball, most of the time, he would turn around and start running. "One of their corners runs 4.2, and the other one runs 4.4. When they turn around and start running, what do you do?" Now tell me this sounds like a guy whos gonna put up huge numbers for us while he is so loaded with confidence. |
Re: Taylor Jacobs/Wash Times
Couldnt agree with you more jroc. Didnt seem to me that he really went after the ball aggressively. ALot of the balls were thrown right towards my corner endzone (129) seats, and it looked like he and the corner were just running together. He never really tried hard to actually get the ball. THen he committed some penalties. I guess we have to wait and see what happens.

Re: Taylor Jacobs/Wash Times
the part that gets me is "what do you do" ... are you f'n kidding me?? Tell your f'n qb and audible to a 10 to 12 yard comeback route... something shit, dont ask the freakin media "what do you do". To me, you just said you dont belong in the NFL.

Re: Taylor Jacobs/Wash Times
then run the wideout screen that looks so nice
|
Re: Taylor Jacobs/Wash Times
Can you spell "journeyman" like the other Florida players who used to be here?
Part of it had to be jitters and you have to hope he picks it up. What else can we do? Call TO? :tongue |
Re: Taylor Jacobs/Wash Times
I thought that the playcalling could have helped here. A comeback or a slant to the middle would have helped. Why was he just given straight fly routes?
|
Re: Taylor Jacobs/Wash Times
The problem is simple.
They double team Santana, leaving the rest of the secondary exposed, and we do nothing. We double team Randy, and Porter has a field day. Someone's gonna have to step up as the #2 receiver or Santana might not catch another pass all year. |
Re: Taylor Jacobs/Wash Times
We should have kept McCants, at least he showed that he could play in the NFL and get open. I know he is only a Special teams player in Philly, but why cut a promising WR when you really dont have any capable WRs to speak of, other than Moss?

Re: Taylor Jacobs/Wash Times
I think Taylor did fine for the most part. His lack of big yardage should be blamed on the coaches. Honestly, there were three plays long play they threw to him and every time the CB was with him and was getting safety help. The coaches should have adjusted his routes to go across the middle or cut the routs shorter and then throw the long bomb.

Re: Taylor Jacobs/Wash Times
I was actually more upset about his penalties

The problem is, the "what do you do?" attitude is not the attitude of a gamer. What he basically said was "I can't get open". No self respecting wide receiver would openly admit to the media that he is unable to make a play. Whether it's lack of confidence or lack of heart, Taylor Jacobs will never be successful in this league with that kind of attitude. |
Re: Taylor Jacobs/Wash Times
Was he talking about the 1985 Bears or the 1986 Giants? Who is this clown kidding…the Raiders have one of the worst secondaries in the league. They crowd the line and then turn and run…blah blah blah…one of them runs a 4.2! Who the f is he kidding with these f-in excuses? If the corner just turned and ran on every play than I guess he must have had a lot of success over the middle or short since the DB was turned and running? If a DB just turns and runs down field I think even I could get open running a skinny post on him. So I think there is a little more to it than that. What… he only had 13 yards? Thos DB’s kept him to 13 yards by just turning and running. Just tell me you played a terrible game…don’t give me excuses like I don’t know what shape the football is.

Re: Taylor Jacobs/Wash Times
porter > jacobs/patten
collins is probably a bit better than brunell maybe he got excited that PSU is doing so well!!! |
Re: Taylor Jacobs/Wash Times
So I guess we sign Farris now, but we still need depth at the position. Who else is out there?
|
Re: Taylor Jacobs/Wash Times
We did sign Farris today.

After all of the WRs that Philly has lost and WOW McCants is still a SPECIAL teamer, man maybe we should of kept him. |
Re: Taylor Jacobs/Wash Times
looks like taylor got a brain injury by thinking to much
|
Re: Taylor Jacobs/Wash Times
Is there a chance we might see Kevin Dyson again?
We did sign Farris today.
I thought we would sign Farris to add depth. But we put Parson back on the practice squad so that was essentially a lateral move. Thrash probably won't play this Sunday so we need to find another receiver-Steven Harris? Dyson? Brown? Of course, I hate to say it but there is a former Eagle out there....that's right, Freddie Mitchell. I say bring back Brown. Keep Moss of special teams and maybe give us a bit of a spark and good field position |
Re: Taylor Jacobs/Wash Times
I say we start Sean Taylor at 2#WR and watch him punish San Diego's CB's. We need to use what we have and of course I like Farris, but he's coming in cold. Hasn't played since preseason and could have possibly forgetton the play book. Troy Brown made a hell of a difference for New England last year and you saw the result. Let's see if someone hears my call, because besides Santana, there is no better player on the Redksins than Taylor.

Re: Taylor Jacobs/Wash Times
Jacobs is officially a complete BUST. I'm totally done with him. Not that it matters.....he's due for another injury in a quarter or two.
|
Re: Taylor Jacobs/Wash Times
Who is Taylor Jacobs again? Oh that guy who gets hurt all the time and apparently is a little bitch. He is dead to me after his ridiculous comments. Start anyone else and maybe Taylor can stay healthy enough to get some experience as the slot guy(not likely). His demeanor isn't one that we need starting.

Re: Taylor Jacobs/Wash Times
I've been absent for a while but I found this other thread where folks here thought that Taylor Jacobs was a good reciever with good hands who ran good routes but he had suffered a bunch of freaky injuries and that's why he hadn't excelled just yet.
In this thread, he's a dumbass who can't get out of his own way. Obviously, both threads cannot be correct. Regarding Darnarian McCants, one of the reasons the Redskins soured on him last year was that he would not/could not contribute on special teams. Now he is in Philly and plays on - - special teams. Anyone else think that there might be another part of this story that hasn't been fully explained? Check out the waiver wire, I'm pretty sure that Cliff Russell is available... |
Re: Taylor Jacobs/Wash Times
okay looking at his quote, I would think he needs to tell the coaches and adjust his route. maybe an 10 and stop or double move, everyone is fast in the NFL, get over it.
|
Re: Taylor Jacobs/Wash Times
Further evidence to back my theory for Redskins' player management--"Get everything that ever had to do with Steve Spurrier out of here." That means you Betts, Ramsey, and Dockery. Everybody he ever drafted or brought in from free agency was a bust.

He is a very good back up to Portis and could probably start for some teams. He runs hard and is a good contributor on special teams.
I thought that the playcalling could have helped here. A comeback or a slant to the middle would have helped. Why was he just given straight fly routes?
A straight fly route against a player faster or just as fast is awfully tough to get open, you really can't pick up on that stuff on TV, but if that's the case perhaps Gibbs should add a little spice to the patterns as you said with slants, and come back routes, forcing the DB to stay close to the reciever, which would then give Jacobs a better chance of beating a DB deep. To many players last season from opposing defenses where saying how simple it was to figure out our passing game, it sounds a little like what Jacobs is getting at here. |
Re: Taylor Jacobs/Wash Times
Well, one thing that I think Taylor could have done to encourage Joe to call more plays that suited him would have been to break a tackle or something. If he can't get open on a fly route, then I can understand that, but when he did catch the ball he pretty much went straight down. How do you catch 3 balls and get only 17 yards? That means you're not getting yac. That really wouldn't inpsire me to call different plays to get that reciever open.
Also, how do you say, "what am I supposed to do?" What the hell does that mean? How about you try to play physical Taylor? Oh, I forgot, you'd probably get hurt. The Skins need to cut ties with this garbage, no heart punk. |
