Re: Game

I wasn't a big fan of the 2nd half playcalling. We mixed things up well in the first half like we were playing to win. Then in the second half it was like let's call all the safe stuff so we don't lose. Well we lost another close one. Here's comes the obligatory "our guys fought their guts out today" speech from Gibbs. As far as I'm concerned, that's nice and all, but I'd like to see positive results for once.

Here's one positive. Robert Royal will not be on this team after this season.

Totally agree. The second half offensive play calling was utter shit. It's the third week in a row that conservative has killed us.

Re: Game

Betts scores on big plays and now Cartwright has scored on a big play. Clinton Portis is the dissapointment here. See how Marty uses L.T. ? Those long runs were suppose to be what Portis would bring to this offense. When is the last time he broke a run of 30 yards? I would like to know.

Isn't that what people complained about last week though? That we got too cute in the second half instead of running the ball and holding onto our lead, or am I mistaken?

Re: Game

Did you see the holes Tomlinson had? Portis didn't get blocking like that all day...he really hasn't had much blocking like that all year. It's ridiculous, this O Line doesn't blow people off the ball like the Chargers did. Portis never got the chance to get going. There were plenty of times he was wrapped up before he got to the line...hell, Tomlinson barely got touched all day. Portis never gets those chances. You can't run without blocking.

Also, 13 yards isn't exactly a long run.

Bushead 11-27-2005 04:36 PM

Re: Game

Second thing, No Blamming the Defense here for ANYTHING. They get the ball for your offense through an interception and put you in perfect position to win the game. So who cares if Walt gives 10-yard cushions, the defense as a whole came up big and gave the offense a chance to win.

Hail2em 11-27-2005 04:37 PM

Re: Game

Gibbs is living in the past and still thinks of portis as a power back when he is not him and tomlinson are the same style running back. I wish he(Gibbs)woulod realize that.

They literally handed the game to the O to win and they couldn't even get enough yardage for a FG.

How pathetic is that? About as bad as it gets.

LOL, your right. Saying 13 yards is a long play is kind of stretching it a bit. Looks like Tomlinson just cuts though. Several times I saw a big open field but Portis would just stay inside instead of trying to cut outside. Who knows though, i'm not a Pro Running back.

They would have had it had Rabach not been called for holding.

jdlea 11-27-2005 04:40 PM

Re: Game

AND Betts doesn't even have a rushing TD this year. Nor does he have a 30 yard run. Portis on the other hand, had a 31 yarder against Tampa.

I did notice Portis didn't cut back a few times when it looked open, but he said earlier this year that Joe doesn't want him to run like that. This offense is built for a patient runner. He's supposed to go play side and follow his H Back. I don't know if Joe really meant "never cut back," but it's always easy to say "he should have cut back" when I get to watch it on TV.

He's been kind of a disappointment all year long I think. I thought he would be a huge addition but I haven't seen it

Re: Game

Who looks like they run better though? This is by no means a Portis-hating post, or calling him a bust. Just do you remeber how he made people look silly? Jumping and jiving, he could run 60 yards with an assortment of moves. We were all excited when we heard he was come to D.C. Where did that go, that hold your breath feeling the announcer was talking about with L.T.?

I agree he hasn't really been the same back, but it's not the same system. I think we need to adjust to the system that Denver and Atlanta employ. I love the zone blocking idea. It works everywhere.

jdlea 11-27-2005 04:48 PM

Re: Game

And it's not like he hasn't had good games with the Skins, but a lot of times he just doesn't get the chance to get going. It's tough for a skat back type to come into a power running system. It doesn't make much sense that we haven't adjusted the scheme to play to his strengths more. I know they tried or whatever, but they need to make a lot of changes to play to this kid's strengths, cause when he's on he can look like LT.

Bushead 11-27-2005 04:48 PM

Re: Game

I thought Gibbs said they added some Zone blocking plays? Because I agree with you, it's great if you can have a RB that can pick and choose wholes as well as Portis can.

jdlea 11-27-2005 04:50 PM

Re: Game

I thought they did too, but I haven't seen it that much. And if they did add it, they really need to learn how to do it right...lol

I agree been a fan for a very long time all I can say is thank God for the beginning of College basket ball. I am tired of seeing a no playing team and damm tired of saying maybe next year

Re: Game

The unfourtunate thing is we can't afford to say a new coaching staff. I'm patient enough to give any coach three years to show something; I really thought it would take that long for Joe Gibbs to get his kind of players to the team. This year is pretty much over.

Win against dallas!

4th quarter playcalling lost this game.

That said royal, frost and walt (hey man, you can get a lot of tackles if you let the guy catch the thing) were subpar and we should definately look for replacements.

Re: Game

Each week it's something else that causes the loss - the refs making bad calls, a penalty, a dropped pass, a missed coverage, a missed tackle, bad play calling, etc., etc., etc.

Bottom line is that this team just isn't yet good enough to do what it takes to overcome such mistakes. The best teams do this, week in and week out. We have not learned how to do so.

We can come up with every reason we want to, to explain away each loss. But they are all only excuses for what is, essentially, just a mediocre team playing at a mediocre level.

Re: Game

We are an average team but I blame that on the lack of a true general manager. If we had a GM, we wouldn't have done that stupid trade to get portis (champ and a #1 pick for portis). We also would've kept Smoot last year. And last but not least we would've got more d-line help, better corners, and wouldn't have started the season with just 4 WR. There's no way Harris, Jimoh, Royal, and Frost should be in the NFL. As long as Danny boy tries to be Jerry Jones we will never win.

Oh Well..but no matter what happens COACHING had nothing to do with those LOSSES!!

You're 100% right. We desperately need a good GM. Gibbs may be a great coach, but he's not even a good GM. I strongly believe that the same man can't wear both hats and succeed at either job.

I didn't see anything wrong with the playcalling in the 4th.
