The Rock

Dont get me wrong cliton is a damn good RB but i thinnk the rock fits this sytem a little better. His vision is awesome and can pick out the holes a little better then portis.

why not just have two good or three good rb's?

Can we have one week without a "replace Portis" debate?

Re: The Rock

glad we didnt cut him in preseason...

Question though...what do you guys think about Betts and this off-season...isn't he a free agent this year??

Do you think we make a move to resign him...or just save the cap room...let him leave...and move on with portis, rock, and nemo?

i like how they combined, i would like to see them used more interchangably so that we always have a fresh runner in there. rock did a great job tonight

BigSKINBauer 12-04-2005 07:24 PM

Re: The Rock

we don't need all 3 of betts, rock, and nemo. I can trade either betts or rock and pick have nemo as our 3rd. We have 3 starting quality runners

SkinsLove24/7 12-04-2005 07:30 PM

Re: The Rock

Keep Portis and Rock as the running backs and I'm sure they could get something if they attemted to trade Betts. Maybe a draft pick or a D-lineman.

NFLeurope 12-04-2005 07:35 PM

Re: The Rock

but isnt betts a free agent at the end of the year?...how can you trade him if he is a free agent...?

Would it be by placing one of those tenders on him...(by the way can someone explain to me...the whole free agent tender thing?...From what i understand...there are three levels of tenders. The team pays a certain amount...depending which tender it is...and then if the guys signs with another team then that team has to relinquish a pick or something???)

mooby 12-04-2005 07:36 PM

Re: The Rock

They can't trade Betts because his contract is up after the season. I still like betts, but if we don't resign him, i think we are in a great position with cartwright backing him up.

One reason i like Portis is because of his break away speed. Remember that 52 yard run by Cartwright today? If that had been Portis it would've been a touchdown. I think that Portis could pick his holes more wisely though. I've seen it in the past where there are wide open running lanes, but Portis chooses to run into the pile instead of cutting across. I hope Portis stays in washington for the rest of his career.

Re: The Rock

I don't think there's any chance that Rock could carry the load for this team. When Spurrier tried to give him some carries he got hurt. Whenever Betts gets a bunch of carries he gets hurt.

Those two look good because they're change of pace backs. Did we want to replace Stephen Davis with Ki Jana Carter? No. You need guys like them to come in and change the pace. They're not much different from Tatum Bell or Ron Dayne, but Denver still starts Mike Anderson. Just like when Trung was in St. Louis, he would break some big ones, but the better back started the game.

The better back starts the game in this offense. What Joe Gibbs needs to do is come up with effective ways to use all of them while still featuring Portis.

I agree 100%. Rock is a very good change-up back, but he's not a starter.

SUNRA 12-04-2005 09:16 PM

Re: The Rock

Any RB who can score on his first carry against the Chargers and bust a 48 yarder against the Rams may not be a starter, but he is a playmaker. Rock was visibly upset after his run because he was called to the sidelines. Portis was stuffed and never had a chance to score. We should have scored on that play rather than kick a field goal. Rock is a downhill RB who can break tackles and hit the sidelines with exceptional speed. Portis is not 100% in the fourth quarter which hurts the running game. Rock should get the ball more as a change-up RB to compliment Portis and change the pace the running game.

In another thread we're talking about Robert Royal and whether he's been exonerated now...so here's my question, after today are we just about ready to forgive Rock for his costly fumble against the Chiefs?

this definitely helped but his turnover lead directly to points so I know for me it's still gonna take a little bit more of play like he had today to give him a clean slate this year.

Re: The Rock

Rock deserves todays glory. He has worked hard and probably makes a fraction of a fraction of what Portis makes. Nonetheless he isn't a possible #1 RB. Atleast not yet. Not for us or for any other team. He's a great tandem runner and with huge holes; you have to take advantage of those. And he did. Today I saw Tatum Bell, Mike Anderson and Ron Dayne all standing on the sideline waiting in a line to go in. Fresh quality RB's. That's what we have with Portis, Betts and Cartwright. Rock has cemented his #3 RB status with his efforts, but as of yet would attract little on the FA market. I'm guessing if we'll have him, he'll be back next year with Betts and Portis. GG Rock and thanks for your hardwork.

you guys make me laugh.last week everyone was all over the offense for not making plays.this week we run for over 200 yards and not one peep about how awesome our line play was today!kudos to coach bugel and the dirtbags for stepping up today.great job

Re: The Rock

I love Rock, but he's not starting material and at this point neither is Betts. Same old story with Betts, can't stay healthy. Both guys give us some quality depth at RB, something you can never have enough of.

yeah together(betts and rock) are a great back.

I like the depth with either Rock or Betts back there. I agree, though - neither is a starter.

Re: The Rock

I was happy to see Rock have a great day but would have to agree he is not a starter. He is a good 2nd or 3rd and contributes nice on special teams. What up with Portis and his sheen injuries? It seems like every week he is listed as haven a new sheen injury.

MTK 12-05-2005 10:17 AM

Re: The Rock

Is a sheen the same as a shin? LOL

I think it's just a nagging injury he's had all year that he keeps re-aggravating.

No - CP is having problems with the sheen and luster of his topcoat. It's a serious injury for someone as fashion conscious as Portis.

FRPLG 12-05-2005 10:19 AM

Re: The Rock

I think a sheen injury deals with a Jerry Curl. I don't think CP has one. Maybe he had to shave it to get rid of the injury factor.

In the first qtr right away i saw brunell put the ball up long ...and i saw gibbs not sitting on a lead... this week was alot different ...this was what i have been waiting for all year...so yes i am more that happy to give everybody their due and credit.... i want wins not losses and everybody came to play..... they finally played with urgency ON offense and defense it's about time and it was fun to watch...Royal was a prime example of that... hey i even saw that famous williams pressure.... i feel that we forgave him instantly, atleast I did. He is a TRUE redskin, not a f'n pierce or smoot, he is true true true and he obviously didn't mean to. He is a backup and does an amazing job as one

HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!!!

Yes indeed. 257 yards rushing is awesome ... against the 27th ranked run defense in the league who apparently forgot to practice tackling this week.

I was one of those who was "all over the offense" last week for not making plays. Was I supposed to make excuses for them? Was I supposed to be applauding their performance when for the third game in a row they could not add to a 10 point lead in the fourth quarter?

Sorry dmek, as a fan, I reserve the right to bitch when my team loses. But forgive me if I don't share in the thoughts that they are back on the track to the playoffs because they played a team who is in worse shape than the Redskins are. When they beat Arizona next week, and then take care of business at home against the Cowpies the week after, then maybe my hopes of seeing this team salvage the season and maneuver in position for a wild card spot may be rekindled.

Yes it was a great job by the offensive line, and they manhandled a team that they should have manhandled yesterday. But as is often the case in recent years, the win against the Rams may have been too little, too late. Beating teams with renewed fervor and excitement after being eliminated from playoff contention is a pattern I expected to see stopped cold when Joe Gibbs arrived. I hope we won't see that two years in a row with him in charge.

Yes you reserve the right to bitch about the team after a loss, but why do you have to make a dig at the team after a win (e.g. citing the Rams' run defense's ranking)?

Also, I suppose that since you are citing the opponent's ranking after a win, that you would be citing statistics relating to opponents that we lost to. For example, I am sure that you have said that we lost to some damn fine teams; most of whom will be in the playoffs.
