Breakout player for Arizona

What scares about this up coming game is the threat of the WR's for Arizona breaking out, in a big way against a Redskins team that has a bad habit of giving star players monster days ... see Tiki, Porter, Galloway, LT ...

Boldin and Fitzpatrick can GO OFF, and Warner is still able to sling it. We thought that Bledsoe would be a sitting duck, we did 't breath on him ... so I guess what I'm saying is Gregg Williams gonna come up with the right plan this week? At this point I can't even speculate. Is he gonna blitz? Is he gonna take Larry out of the game and force Boldin to beat us? Is he gonna ignore the stagnate Arizona running game and concetrate on the pass? Any thoughts on a Defensive game plan? He guessed right against Fitzpatrick and the Rams ...

To me we have to blitz Warner. He has shown a remarkable ability to not be able to handle it ove the last few years. The key is we have to blitz and actually get to him. Not sack necessarily but at least pressure and hurry.

Re: Breakout player for Arizona

We seemed to have a better pass rush when C. Griffin is in the game. He helped us get pressure this week and I think they can do it again next week. Heck, if the Skins can just rush for 200 yards again, it won't matter. That chews up clock and really wears out the opposing team. Plus their O never gets a chance to get into the flow of the game.

Re: Breakout player for Arizona

We should go after Warner and put him on the turf early. Then, we set the tone for
the game and force him to make bad decisions. We should try to control the line
of scrimmage on both sides and control the clock.

Re: Breakout player for Arizona

This is going to be a tough game for the redskins. They have to go across the country which is tough and the skins and the Cards offenses are equal. Therefore it will again be up to the defense to win this game. I think the D will come through but it wont be easy. The skins D backs will have their hands full all day.

I hope if the Redskins beat Arizona and go 7-6, the people who said the team sucked will eat some crow. This team isn't great, but it certainly doesn't suck.

Re: Breakout player for Arizona

How about Chris Simms, I mean he killed us anytime we gave single coverage to WR's and Boldin and Fitzpatrick are STUDS. I'm so scared one them is going to go off man.

I say we play the pass, and dare the Cardinals to beat us with the run. They are dead last in that category...

And bring the heat on Warner on obvious passing downs ... We don't get pressure, and blitzing 7-8 guys is gonna make two good receivers just that much better...

its Fitzgerald, not fitzpatrick

Re: Breakout player for Arizona

When the running game is as crappy as Arizona's, you can blitz off the edges a ton more. When there is a running game to respect, you pretty much have to blitz up the middle in order to stop any handoffs that you see while you're on the way to the QB. But with no running threat, GW can feel free to bring tons of corner blitzes, or send Arrington and Washington simultaneously.

This also might be a good opportunity to get Chris Clemons on the field more often. He's such a great pass rusher, I love that guy.

Re: Breakout player for Arizona

The Skins just beat a Rams team with 2 pro bowl receivers in Bruce and Holt. Granted the QB play of Fitzpatrick isnt Kurt Warner, but we blitzed and got pressure. I believe getting pressure on the QB is one of the major keys to the game. And as always and can never be said enough, limiting turnovers and penalties is the most important. I cannot remember how many games we have lost due to this problem. In St Louis The Skins did a fantastic job cutting out the mistakes, and wahlah we win. huh, imagine that. Skins can win in Arizona, and then after coming home with 2 road victories the Skins can beat a struggling Dallas team(who at this point will have lost 3 in a row). Go Skins.

Nice post. You're right. I wish we had applied more pressure to Kerry Collins. Would have been a different outcome

Warpath 12-05-2005 06:29 PM

Re: Breakout player for Arizona

Yep, should of pressured Collins, Bledsoe, I mean many of the QBs we have lost to this season is because they are statues and given time will cut up any Defense including us. Getting to the QB is extremely important in Gregg's d I believe and when we cannot break through the line and get it, we struggle.

Re: Breakout player for Arizona

Helps to have C Griffen back--he really puts pressure up the middle--it collapses the pocket, prevents QBs stepping up, and frees up the blitzers.

THis is a must win (as are all the rest). And there are no easy games for this team. If we can lose to the Raiders at home, we can lose anywhere. But I think if we play our game, we can win anywhere as well.

At least the games still count!!!

Re: Breakout player for Arizona

we have c griffin, their oline isn't great and warner gets nervous easily... so hopefully we can get to him... this is the best passing attack we'll see all season though.

Re: Breakout player for Arizona

Two words: SEAN TAYLOR. He, Rogers, and Griffen will all be positional upgrades from the Bucs' game. Not to mention the Cardinals' complete lack of a running game. I wouldn't be surprised if they had under 40 yards rushing Sunday. We will have over 200.

Don't forget the last time the Skins played Warner, v. the Rams, Arrington laid the wood on him and we recovered the fumble to save the game.

Believe it or not, the Cardinals are No.1 in passing yards............and 32nd in rushing.

That tells me they're playing from behind alot and their running game is a mess.

They do rack up the passing yards but because they cant score those yards are meaningless, similar to the skins rushing yards. The Cards and the skins have scored almost the same amount of points for the season (I believe the skins have 2 more 145 to 143) so this will be a very tough game for the skins and one they could easily lose if they are not careful.

Re: Breakout player for Arizona

This is gonna be a huge test for our secondary.

I think we should blitz constantly and try to rattle Warner. Remember, he's a fumbling machine.

Re: Breakout player for Arizona

i think this will be a fairly easy game for the skins.the cardinals are about as one demensional as the rams, and warner cannot move at all.a couple of years ago,we beat a pretty good rams team at home by blitzing alot and we either sacked or hurried warner the whole game.he ended the game by fumbling the ball.jj arrington hasnt done anything this season and im not overly impressed with denny green

seattle has a better QB and a great RB (his oline helps him a lot though), but the WRs are a bit junky after their #1 went down. Oline + QB makes up for that, and with alexander they have a much better OFFENCE, but the cards passing game has more talented wideouts. so yeah, I think this is a tougher challenge for our corners, but they'll probably get more help than in week 3.

Their running game has been worthless. Lets hope the DB's have their A game on.

Re: Breakout player for Arizona

I wonder if Williams will implement more man coverage with safety help or the zone coverages I believe he's been using lately as to keep the cbs from being burned by double moves. All I know is after watching the highlights for the 49ers/Card game, the defensive guys better bring their tackling A game or the duo of Boldin and Fitz will make them pay. I have a feeling with the Cards lack of a running game we'll see a lot more 2 LB/5 DB formations and hopefully a mix of the duo of Arrington and Clemons coming off the corners of the line.
