Portis/game
I just wanted to say this is the type of game I've been waiting for for many years. All around it was a good game. I don't know if anyone else noticed but we ran Portis to his style of running alot more today
go skinssssssssss!!! Hail2em |
Re: Portis/game
3 consecutive 100 yard games by portis. He has been nothing short of great for us when we need him.

Absolutely! He looked a little banged up, though. Hopefully he'll be at 100% for next weekend, 'cause we'll need him (especially if Thomas is out). |

I saw that too and I bet if there had been audio of it, we would have heard the ref giggle like a swedish school girl. |

Broken Ankle, most likley dont for season. (I say most likley cause if we were to go on deep in the playoffs or somthing, he could be back i'd imagine.) |

go skinssssssssss!!! Hail2em
Definitely agree. We had a lot of toss plays and outside runs today. But I think that Portis can run up the gut just as well too. People don't notice how physical he is and I think he really is one of the top all around backs in the NFL. |

i heard joe bugel on the redskins post game telling b. mitchell that gibbs was giving all the players monday and tuesday off, so hopefully that will help out with the players resting and healing up. |
Re: Portis/game
actually alot of those plays were old school Gibbs Counter-Treys. it's just looks different when Portis runs it :)
everyone hear? Portis likes running behind Sellers. nothing but good things happen when he's in formation. no more singleback! |
Re: Portis/game
can we please put to rest all those stupid portis is over rated threads?he is definitley a true redskin, all guts and glory
|
Re: Portis/game
Portis is a gamer, I don't understand how you just can't love the guy.
|
Re: Portis/game
And I loved them showing all his crazy Thursday outfits. The guy is a trip. But he's got heart--after that (un-flagged!) horsecollar crap that nearly broke his collarbone, he came back, and lowered his shoulder on lots of plays. That's leadership.
oh, BTW--Sellars had a great game, lead blocking, specials, and the TD. |
Re: Portis/game
portis is definately not overrated, if anything i think he is underrated. He is put into a role that does not suite him that well(power back), and he has handled it quite well, although we did get him to the outside alot this game. Sure he does not get as many touchdowns as we all want him to, but when he runs the ball well, the Redskins tend to win.

I love him! Hell, if I were a chick I'd...well, nevermind. Not to repeat my other post, but I can't help but gush about what an incredible team player Portis is - he works as hard without the ball as he does with it. That kind of team play and work ethic is (hopefully) contagious and what really seperates a good team from a bad one. |
Re: Portis/game
For anyone who still hates on CP, I say you just don't appreciate football, because CP is everything you could want in a football player.

Thomas broke his right fibula (not his ankle) and is scheduled to have surgery today. Bubba Tyer says he's done for the season. |

I think that's a great coaching call. The perfect game plan is useless if our guys are too tired to make it work. Plus, with the short week, we'll need it! |

Interesting because on Friday night's Redskins Report Riggo said nobody does less with 100 yard games than CP. Riggo said CP gets 10 yards here, 5 yards there, and in the end it adds up to a bunch of yards but no points. It sounded to me like Riggo is not too high on CP as an impact RB. |

No. CP should have run for 200 no 300 yards in each of these games. He is terrible and shouldn't be allowed in the NFL anymore because he can't do anything right ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Give me some Reggie Brooks all day long!! |

100 yards is a 100 yards and whether it leads directly to points or not does not diminish the fact that it opens up the playbook and indirectly leads to points. I like Riggo but something tells me he isn't always the most objective guy to talk to about Redskins running backs. |

Riggo seems to have an axe to grind against the Skins for some odd reason. Either that or he just gets off on being overly critical of the team, maybe he thinks that makes him edgy, or maybe the guy really is just nuts. Either way I don't take what he takes very seriously. You can only take the negative viewpoint so far, eventually it gets tired and old. |

That's complete BS analysis by Riggins. CP has only 66% of our rushing TDs. Show me another team with a 1300 yard rusher who accounts for such a small percentage of his team's rushing TDs. Point is, Betts, Sellers, and Rock all get goal line touches. That doesn't suggest inefficiency to me - that suggests CP is a team player. Do you think Shawn Alexander would stand for Maurice Morris getting 8 rushing TDs this year? Absolutely not. |

Yeah, Riggins analysis for the past several years has soured my view of him a bit. Michael Irvin gives Washington more praise than he does. He's probably just bitter that, yet again, another Redskins back is going to surpass his single season yargade mark. |

Exactly - I loved that CP was out on the field high-fiving Betts after his TD - great team play. |

While I dont doubt CP is as much a team player as the next guy you make it sound like he is going to the coachs telling them to spread the TDs around. I doubt thats the case. The skins RBs all get goal line touches because thats how the coaches call the plays, nothing more, nothing less. Just curious, how do you know Shawn Alexander would not stand for Maurice Morris getting 8 rushing TDs? |

Three feet. Thirty-six inches. Any way you measure it, the Seattle Seahawks’ Shaun Alexander came up just short in his effort to pass the New York Jets’ Curtis Martin for the NFL rushing title. “Of course it would have been sweet to get it,” Alexander said. “I feel worse because we had a quarterback sneak for a touchdown.”
Exhibit B:
"We were on the freakin' goal line, and I got stabbed in the back."
|
Re: Portis/game
Key to victory is running Portis outside. Those plays were money almost every time!

Re: Portis/game
Exhibit B:"We were on the freakin' goal line, and I got stabbed in the back."
you nailed it darksets, CP would NEVER, EVER say anything even remotely like that. i could find a ton of quotes of him saying "i'd rather get 40yds and win than 100 and a loss". he routinely goes on about he doesn't care about personal records. and only a guy who doesn't would be risking his health the way he does to save Brunell on every pass play he's in to block. |

I mean, he's the man and all but after that comment last year, you have to question his team spirit. I hope he get's record this year and meet us in the playoffs!!! |
Re: Portis/game
Portis is definitely raising his game at the right time. Gotta love Gibbs leaning on the O-line and running game like the old days. The Randy Thomas injury hurts, but I'm a lot more confident having Ray Brown at his natural position (guard) than having him at offensive tackle. Does anybody know the early word on Antonio Pierce's status?

Re: Portis/game
I love Portis to death but he still has trouble around the goal line. I really hope we let Betts go and use Nemo as a goalline back next year with Rock as the steady backup. Clinton is well above average in every phase of the game, I just wish he hit holes like Rock does when he runs up the middle instead of falling forward for 4. He should have broken more runs this year if you ask me. Still, he is a Redskin through and through.

go skinssssssssss!!! Hail2em
I still wish we would incorperate some draw plays for Portis, I just think he would be so much more effective with those quick draw play's, it would also help to give Brunell a little more time on some passing plays as well, defenses would have to respect the handoffs on the draw play. It is nice to see them giving Portis the ball on the outside more, defiently more his style, hopefully we don't stop there, I hope we continue to adjust for him and get more draws, as well as screen plays for him. |

Our line needs to get a better push on short yardage, no way we get rid of Bettes, what guarentees do have that nemo can get the job done? Betts is a tremendous backup for Portis, if we can keep him we won't think twice about it. |

You hit the nail on the head, when you're getting hit in the backfield it's not the RB's fault, it's on the big guys up front. |
