Randy Thomas' Ankle Injury

Anyone have any news on his condition?

Re: Randy Thomas

I just read another thread that said he has a broken ankle. Hope that is wrong.

From the looks of the replays, i would be surprised if no fracture!!:censored: :banghead:

Re: Randy Thomas

crap... I hate to see him out and hurt. I do like the fact that Ray Brown is still with the team. I like ray. Dont get me wrong I'd rather have the eating machine randy thomas in there, but for a backup brown is good.

Man, losing Thomas really hurts. He was our best lineman this year and one of the best in the league. I hope our protection and running game don't suffer too much.

This is going to hurt the running game on the on the outside. He was the best pulling lineman that we had.

Without a doubt. His loss will really hurt our running game.

PS - It is official, Gibbs said Thomas broke his ankle. Well, a broken ankle is better than a torn ACL.

yeah I thought his knee had been practically destroyed and didn't even think it might be something with his ankle.

Re: Randy Thomas

damnit. i considered Thomas to be the most consistent lineman on our team. But i'm glad we have Ray Brown still, he's the best backup we have. Hope thomas makes a full recovery and comes back for next year.

Dumb play for Betts to blindly jump into the back of the legs of Thomas in a game that was won. It made no sense. I know it was in the heat of the game but why dive there???

Then he fumbled!
Not a smart play.

Re: Randy Thomas

You know guys, I mentioned in one thread that I had a vision that showed us winning this game, but I also said that a key player would be lost due to injury. It's sad, but it's the sacrifice Randy Thomas was determined to make with his consistent play. we've got to step it up a knotch and stuff Tiki's running ability and force Eli to deliver the ball right into our hands.

Re: Randy Thomas

A massive, massive price for today's win. It sucks, but if that's the price of winning a must-win game, I guess we have to "take" it. He'll be out for the year if the Washington Post reports (fractured ankle) are accurate.

I think Ray Brown is his replacement - is that correct?

saden1 12-18-2005 09:21 PM

Re: Randy Thomas

It's tough to lose him but it is one of those injuries one can recover from in 4 weeks or so if it isn't too serious.

Re: Randy Thomas

Did anyone think that the Thomas injury when he was getting carted off was one of the coolest freaking things you ever saw? When they were wheeling him off the feild and the crowd was going crazy and Thomas was going nuts with them. I was getting chills I thought it was so cool

Re: Randy Thomas

I guess better a broken ankle than a blown out knee. He'll be back stronger than ever next year!

Re: Randy Thomas

This is a big blow to the running game, specifically any plays that involved Thomas pulling because he is so good at it.

Re: Randy Thomas

Did anyone watch Randy Thomas "in the lockeroom" on redskins.com. It might make you freaking cry, I LOVE that dude. ITs like 10 mintues in, but its really niice.

randy thomas is the man... yelling out "i'm lovin' this" while he was being carted off with a broken fibula! that is hard!

There's some great locker room interviews, Cooley was classic too!

Yeah, gotta love Thomas, he seems like a really cool dude.

Re: Randy Thomas' Ankle Injury

Thomas is a great blow to us. BUt no team makes it without injuries--that's the NFL. Now we'll see if "father time" can still do it. He'll be a lot better at guard than at tackle, IMO, so we'll see.

What I loved was the chemistry displayed when Thomas went down. This team is a family. My guess is that Randy's injury will seriously motivate the team.

I wonder if Molinaro is going to see time along with Brown?

Re: Randy Thomas' Ankle Injury

did you see the love showed by the fans at the stadium? i was right there chanting with them for Randy. i have to say the Redskins must be the most loved team in football, how else could you explain the biggest revenues, and biggest waiting list at the biggest stadium through all those terrible seasons.

Re: Randy Thomas' Ankle Injury

Randy Thomas is a Hog, man. He's worthy of consideration for the Hall of Hog. What a great, tough, team guy.

We're going to miss him a lot though. Ray Brown doesn't have nearly the same mobility. All those stretch sweeps that Portis likes to run are now out of the playbook to that side of the field. I guess we can try to run them behind Dockery, he's going to have to step up. Ray Brown just can't pull like that.

I feel fine about Brown in pass protection at guard. He can hold his own against the DTs in the interior. It's run blocking I'm worried about. Gibbs is going to have to get creative and redesign some Xs and Os to get Portis into space.

BIG blow to our team.

Re: Randy Thomas' Ankle Injury

Just to clarify, RT broke his fibula (one of the 2 lower leg bones) not his ankle. No matter, its still a big loss.

Re: Randy Thomas' Ankle Injury

I'm glad guys on this site are paying attention to this injury...it really put a damper on the first game I'd attended since '98. As others have said, Thomas was the best pulling guard we have and maybe the best O-Lineman at least this year. If anyone thinks that offensive linemen don't matter just remember back to the 1999 playoffs when we played Tampa Bay. Andy Heck was hurt and couldn't go at LT and his replacement (whose name escapes me at the moment) was absolutely manhandled all night long. Brad Johnson couldn't get any time to go down field and I am still convinced that if Heck was healthy we would have played St. Louis in the NFC Championship. Everyone remembers Dan Turk's bad snap, but on the play before that Johnson was sacked by the DE going against our LT. That made for a longer kick and maybe more pressure on the snap. Luckily Ray Brown is a better back up then whoever replaced Andy, but I don't think he moves nearly as well as Thomas. Huge game against the Giants next week, though, and hopefully Ray Brown can step up once again...Skins control their own destiny...you can't ask for much more than that (except maybe wins against the Raiders, Chargers, and Bucs...how great would that have been...should have won all three of those...oh well).

Anyone know how Rivera is doing? That was a nasty fall on his neck. I don't wish that on anyone - even the Cowgirls.
