Phillip Daniels
P.D. had a very impressive performance today. 4 sacks, tying a Redskins record. But i have a question. Does his performance redeem himself in the eyes of the coaches and fans? I know a lot of fans that say we need to upgrade our pass rush in the offseason. With his latest performance, does that buy him another ticket for a spot on the roster next year? I respect P.D., and the leadership, and responsibility he brings to the team, but he hasn't been consistent all year. After a couple losses this season i know a lot of people, including myself, were blaming the pass rush.

Re: Phillip Daniels
Well I still want PD on the roster next season. Always have. He's a solid player. Jack of all trades, master of none basically. We still need a dominant pass rusher though.

Re: Phillip Daniels
Phillip Daniels is good, not great, but good. He was a force when he played with the Bears and he definitely has the potential to put up some numbers. I definitely think that he a good starting lineman in this league and that he will be playing here next year, but we need a legitimate, every down threat if we want a fearsome d-line.
4 SACKS, I loved how I saw him gain confidence on the field after he got a few. |
Re: Phillip Daniels
he seems to bat a lot of passes
|
Re: Phillip Daniels
against any other team, no. against dallas, hell yeah!!!
|
Re: Phillip Daniels
I think the coaches like Daniels, but he really benefitted from weak o-line play. Still, it was great to see and about time! Just shows what a pass-rushing end can do for this D. We'll see if Daniels is back--depends on the price, as always...

Re: Phillip Daniels
would be good in some sort of rotation but was going against a rookie sunday
|
Re: Phillip Daniels
actually i think all four sacks were against torrin tucker. the rookie is on the other side of their line. either way, i bet you torrin tucker won't be on dallas' roster in the offseason.

Re: Phillip Daniels
let him start until someone better comes along

Re: Phillip Daniels
PD is a quality depth guy but we still need a top-level pass rusher. One thing they talked about on the post game show was how we had faced an inordinate amount of max-protect schemes this year compared to most other teams. Max-protect is really going to cut down on your d-line pressure. Plus we have had so many injuries on defense that it has been hard to apply pressure from other places since the scheme has needed modification to protect some of the backups that were playing a little more.

Re: Phillip Daniels
Daniels didn't turn into a pass rushing demon in one game, he greatly benefited from going up against a horrible OL and a statue in Bledsoe who holds the ball way too long even when he feels the pressure.
|
Re: Phillip Daniels
While that is true Matty, I think/hope it will spill over into the next game.
We'll see. |

And of course, having Griffin back makes things so much easier for everyone. We haven't had a DT like this since Butz. |
Re: Phillip Daniels
Wooooooo, Dave Butz!
I still remember that helmet!! |

Re: Phillip Daniels
Daniels is an average pass rusher who had a phenomenal day against the likes of petiti/tucker. He will stay in DC next year as long as Greg Blache stays in DC. All the ex-Bears such as Daniels, Holdman, Harris etc. are Blache's boys.
That said, we will upgrade on Wynn's side of the D-line this offseason via free agency. Wynn might be forced to restructure (if his cap no. is too unwieldy), and they will use him for depth (rotating him on the interior of the line at times). |
Re: Phillip Daniels
The fact that he was playing against a scrub Dallas offensive line helped a lot. He was motivated though. Apparently it was his son's 13th birth day and he told him he was going to get a sack.
|
Re: Phillip Daniels
From what I remember he's gotten regular pressure and push in the past few games and seems to be fully healed up, but I'd still like a young pass rushing specialist de. I also like seeing how often Clemons seems so close to sacks by sprinting around the corner and seems to be a step or 2 away a few times a game from bringing down the qb and maybe even forcing a fumble.

Re: Phillip Daniels
he's better than wynn and i think he makes less, so if we're looking for a pass rusher, i'd bet wynn is the od man out.

Re: Phillip Daniels
:headbange you guys were talking about Butz, Man when I was a kid I used to scrape my redskins hutch helmet on the concrete so I would look like him. He was awesome baby.
|
Re: Phillip Daniels
On the team, Yes. As a starter, No. He's a below average pass rusher, and a mediocre defensive end at best. Before Sunday, he had five an a half sacks in his previous 34 games as a Redskin. He found a nut on Sunday, like most squirrels eventually do, but Washinton definitely still needs an upgrade at the D end position.
