Sean Taylor going to the Pro Bowl!

OOps my mistake, it is Roy Williams representing the NFC in Honolulu, again, for the 3rd time in 4 years as a pro.

One is a free safety and the other is a strong safety...guess which one is which.

Michael Vick is going too, and you damn well know he should be going!

Yes, the fans, coaches, and media all agree that he could use an additional game and coaching each year to try to improve his coverage skills.

In all honesty, who would you rather have in your defensive backfield, Roy Williams or Sean Taylor?

Actually Sand you suprise me, I thought you really had footbal knowledge. Did you know that Sean and Roy play 2 different positions? Roy is a STRONG Safety and Sean is a FREE Safety. Anybody that watches the game would know this.

There was no Free Safety that was picked 1st team. 2 strong Safeties, hardly the same position.

I've been a Vick fan from the days he was with VT. He is an amazing athlete and has been a decent QB. But, I believe that he is taking a roster spot from guys that are more deserving than he in terms of individual accomplishment.

i agree with you 100%, vick isn't even a top 5 qb. he gets in because of his popularity and because he is fun to watch.

Vick brings fans to the stadium and probably gives the team the best chance to win, thats why hes the starter and not the much better pocket passer.

vick got in on popularity this year... i dont think roy should be there, i'm miffed not a single defensive player made (2 years of top ten D with 1 pro bowler out of it... last year we were #1 for a while too). trotter making it is a total joke.

I'm glad samuels made it, but he's the 3rd best olineman we've got (thomas, jansen) so i don't know how he'd get in instead.

In addition to that, I'll take my TEAM players anyday. You have all your Pro Bowlers and you go ahead and watch them in the Pro Bowl. Make sure you make a big bowl of dip and just pretend like it's your own personal Super Bowl.

Lots of good Mr. Roy Williams did in BOTH losses this year. He gets toasted for two long TDs in the first game and in the second he fails to be the "playmaker" that apparently everyone thinks he is. Oh well, he should be pretty good in the Pro Bowl because he'll have a nice looooooooooooooooong rest.

Re: Sean Taylor going to the Pro Bowl!

Vick going to the pro-bowl is a complete joke. If it wasn't for Dunn and Ducket the Falcons might have won 5 games. The running game gives him the wins, not his ability as a QB. He is the most overrates QB I believe I have ever seen. Absolutely a great athlete, but when it comes to QB and the skills to play QB, he just doesn't have them. Mark Brunell is on pace for 3000 yards, 25 to 27 TDs, and maybe 10 picks, Vick has about 2100 and 13tds, I just dont see it. Pro-bowl voting should be left up to the coaches and players with minimul input from the fans. So many deserving players get screwed every year. I live in Charlotte, and Delhomme going to probowl is horrible. He just throws the ball up in the air and hopes Steve Smith comes down with it. It doesn't really matter, I dont know that anyone actually sits and watches the game anyway.

I wish Taylor was going, but I can't hate on Mike Brown for going. He's a beast, and I must admit, I've loved seeing the Bears defense this year. Flipping nasty!

I posted this in another thread, but it's valid here too.

Atlanta with Vick as the starter: 33-21-1 (61.1 win%)
Atlanta without Vick as the starter: 9-18 (33.3 win%)

I think ST was left out because coaches and players where scared he might not know how to hit at half speed. I could see it now while everyone is having fun Taylor is like a little kid all pumped up and knocking the crap out of guys.

Sandtrap,

You are an idiot if you think Roy Williams is a better safety than Sean Taylor. For that matter, I'd take Adrian Wilson or Brian Dawkins before Williams. At least they (and Taylor) can cover somebody downfield. Williams singlehandedly lost the first Skins game when he let Santana run right by him. Mark these words - if Sean Taylor beats his handgun rap, he will be the standard by which all safeties are measured in two or three years. Terry Glenn certainly wanted no part of Taylor last Sunday.

As for the Pro Bowl - it's nothing more than a popularity contest where many get in on past reputation.

Re: Sean Taylor going to the Pro Bowl!

The only reason why Roy Williams went is because he makes sport center every week by some QB throwing another touchdown on him!!!!

I just saw this on ProFootballWeekly.com, which adds support to my prior post:

Safeties
Who they picked: AFC – John Lynch, Troy Polamalu and Bob Sanders; NFC – Mike Brown, Darren Sharper and Roy Williams.

Who they forgot: Sean Taylor – Boy, I must seem like a Redskins fan. But the kid has been far more of an impact player than Williams, who’s guilty of being subpar in coverage and known better for his horse-collar (or, shirt-collar) tackles. Taylor is so
key to Gregg Williams’ man-free defenses, able to cover the slot receivers, blanket tight ends or sit back in coverage as a center fielder.

Expanded roster pick: Adrian Wilson – Like Karlos Dasnby, Wilson, the Cardinals’ second-best defender (with DT Darnell Dockett a close third), rarely gets his due as a big, rangy hitter and decent ballhawk.

Well lets just compare these two fine players and see just where the idiocy lies. These stats are from Sean Taylors first 2 years in the league compared to Roy Williams first two years in the league:

Taylor: Tackles 106, Assists 23, Sacks 2, INT's 6, TD's 0 Pass Def 16
Williams: Tackles 143, Assists 28, Sacks 4, INT's 7, TD's 2, Pass Def 9

Now lets look at Williams in the last two years in the league, which was Taylors first two years, so use the same stats to compare:

Williams Tackles 139, Assists 33, Sacks 2.5, INT's 4, TD's 1, Pass Def 15

Now keep in mind that these guys play two different positions, except one year Williams did play FS. Williams is predominatly a SS and Taylor a FS. With that in mind it make sense that Taylor have a few more pass defense's than Williams. Williams has been to the Pro Bowl as a FS and a SS, and Taylor has not even gone as a FS.

So if I am an idiot for thinking Roy Williams is a better safety than Sean Taylor, ok!

Do I think Roy Williams is the BEST safety in the league...no way, I think Ed Reed is in that top spot. But I certainly believe, and have the numbers and pro bowl selections (whereas you just have an opinion) to back it, that he is better than Sean Taylor.

Please don't get me wrong here. I do NOT think Taylor is a slouch at safety, quite to the contrary, he is an OUTSTANDING safety. I just happen to think Williams is better.

Okay guy, just who do you think has VOTES for players going to the Pro Bowl? The same friggin guys who wrote that article for ProFootballWeekly. The guy who wrote that article may have thought Sean Taylor should have gone, but OBVIOUSLY a majority of the other voters did not!

Re: Sean Taylor going to the Pro Bowl!

The real question Mr. Sandtrap is were there any Free Safites that got in. There is a flaw in the system when you have just strong safties make it. Hey just remember those 2 TD's in September against your All Pro. Boy guess they did not consider that game.
