playoff scenarios, what to wish for today
today, as a skins fan, I think we root for both minnesota to lose, and the bears to lose. Minnesota would be knocked out of playoff contention, and I think the Giants would get in regardless of what happens in Oakland since they wouldn't have to worry about a tiebreaker with a team they lost to. If the bears lose, they would drop to 10-5, but they would win the NFC North with a Minnesota loss. Next week, if Minnesota could beat Chicago in the Metrodome in a game that would mean a lot to Chicago in terms of seeding, Chicago would drop to 10-6. If Tampa Bay and Carolina both lost next week, the NFC South Champion would also be 10-6. If the Giants can lose at Oakland, they would drop to 10-6, and we would have to take care of the Eagles to claim the NFC East. If all of the above scenarios played out, and ONLY if that happened, we could clinch the second seed and have a first round bye.
Althugh ts somewhat probable that both Minnesota and Chicago lose today, Minnesota beats Chicago next week at home, Carolina loses to Atlanta at Atlanta, and Kerry Collins gets revenge on Coughlin and the Giants (especially with their depleted LB corps), I don't see Tampa losing to New Orleans at home, although crazier things have happened (Buffalo beating Cincinnati) If NY wins next week, the highest seed we can get is a 5 seed, and in that case, it doesn't really matter whether we get a 5 or a 6 seed, what matters is who we match up against. I would prefer to play the Bucs in Tampa, rather than travel up to Chicago or the Meadowlands. If somehow the Panthers were able to win the NFC south, traveling to Carolina would also be a favorable matchup. Regardless of all the other scenarios, if the Giants lose, and we win, we do get at least ONE Home game. Most importantly, just to get in, WE HAVE TO WIN IN PHILADELPHIA, because Dallas will not lose to St. Louis. |
Re: playoff scenarios, what to wish for today
The scenarios are great, only in the NFL. However, if any skins fan thinks next week will be easy, you are crazy. Philly may be 6-9, but they have been in just about every game. They are a lot better than their record says.
|
Re: playoff scenarios, what to wish for today
I think we should not take Philly lightly. Play hard, and we keep the momentum going. Same formula as the past two weeks.

Re: playoff scenarios, what to wish for today
skins win dalass wins carolina wins next week
Bears drop 2 Giants drop one against da raiders Redskins number 3 seed Giants number 5 seed cowboys number 6 seed(not sure what happens if vikings win out? both would tie the conference record and if it goes to same teams played the vikings did beat the giants so i don't know) |

I don't believe you'll have to worry about the Redskins taking Philly lightly. Gibbs will have them ready to play and he'll stress how important this game is to them. |

listen the thing is most of us are still saying 'if'. we aren't really willing to let ourselves to believe this is happening because so many times the skins have been denied. We are seriously scared to say that we will win next week because we feel if we say it it will just go away |

Share your cautious optimism and I had low expectations of the season when it began (8-8 to 9-7 and missing the playoffs)...but I will feel sick to my stomach if we infact lose next week and Dallas makes it to the playoffs ahead of us. The cowboys were fortunate in their game yesterday, and these rumours of Bill Parcells retiring makes me think they will continue to get calls to go their way in next week's game. I like the fact that everyone..Jansen, Cooley, Portis etc. have recognized the fact that we are not in the playoffs yet, and Gibbs will surely have them ready to play. If Ramsey starts, Gibbs will be sure to call 60% or more run plays so that Ramsey does not get an itchy trigger finger and throw picks. |

Coggs, Even you guys were able to beat Philly. So we will def. beat them. We wont take any NFL Team lightly. We are from DC, we are better fans, and we arent as arrogant or selfish as people from NY. |

look out for philly, they put up some AWESOME numbers against Arizona!

Gibbs is no fool, it is good he is giving his players a break but come Tuesday they will be grinding it out at practice. |
Re: playoff scenarios, what to wish for today
I was actually more worried about the philly game than the giants game. I never like going up there to play and was very upset that dallas pulled out that win making next week another must win (STL cant beat anyone). Gibbs will no way play down the importance of the last game and I know we will come out with as much intensity as we have had these past two games. We are so close!!!!!!!!!!!!:insane:

Re: playoff scenarios, what to wish for today
Philly is scary...they have nothing to win or lose. A team like that is very dangerous!

Look for lots of trick plays and them going for it on 4th down more often. However, get a nice early lead and none of that matters. |

see people say that and the thing is going into the last week like we are there are two types of teams, teams that have something to fight for and teams that don't, this game has one of each. i would rather play the one that doesn't have anything to fight for. A few weeks ago we could sleep on a team like the eagles but the thing is being the last week we KNOW we can't |

Excellent point. |
Re: playoff scenarios, what to wish for today
Does anyone who understands the playoff positioning know where the skins would be seeded if they win, Chicago losses this afternoon and next week, Carolina losses next week, and Tampa Bay losses next week? I know that's a tall order but would that possibily set us up to get a first week bye in the playoffs?

Perhaps, but the most important ingredient is us winning this Sunday. |

who gives a crap about all this positioning?all i know is we win,we are in.if the giants lose,we are nfc east champs.boy, that has a nice ring to it

This game has scared me though for the main reason a NFC rival game with a team that has nothing to loose on the road. You can be sure the nastiest of philly fans are going to come out to try and spoil this game for us. If we play our game, it should not be an issue, match the intensity as the past two weeks. This is big for the skins and they want this bigtime, I don't see them or Gibbs taking this game lightly. |
Re: playoff scenarios, what to wish for today
I think alot of people have been saying this, but the way things are shaping out, if we win next weekend we will probably play the Giants at NY(Come on guys the Rams, they can't win a game). Personally I am not a big fan of playing there, and I would rather play at TB or something.
|
Re: playoff scenarios, what to wish for today
Bears win and Minnesota is OUT!
Eagles will not be underestimated by the coaches or the team. Because if we lose we're 99% on missing the playoffs unless the Cowboys lose. Rams will not beat the Cowboys, Eagles will not beat the Redskins, Atlanta could beat the Panthers and the Raiders would need almost a miracle to beat the Gmen. We win we'll probably end up 5 or 6th. and I'd like to see us vs Tampa or Carolina as well. But I believe at this point if we can get in we can beat anyone til maybe the SB. Kill the Eagles! |

you mean the raiders? Here is something someone posted on a Giants board about possible opponents, assuming the Giants beat Oakland. I question the tie breaker with Carolina. If Carolina and the Giants win, and Tampa loses Carolina gets the division. Both Carolina and Giants would be 11-5. Both 8-4 in the conference and 3-2 in common games. Next tie-breaker is strength of victory. Well, is that the point differential in all games? Conference games? Common games? Both teams are +99 in all games. TB Beats New Orleans Washington beats Philly Carolina beats ATL (GIANTS PLAY CAROLINA 4 V 5) Skins play at Tampa, 3 vs 6 I think this is the most likely scenario. I do not see Tampa losing to New Orleans, and I think Atlanta is going to play very uninspired football against the Panthers. OR TB loses to New Orleans Washington Beats Philly Carolina loses to ATL Dallas loses to St Louis (GIANTS PLAY CAROLINA IN A 3 V 6) Skins play at Tampa 4vs 5 Scenarios to play Washington TB Beats New Orleans Washington beats Philly Carolina loses to ATL (GIANTS PLAY WASHINGTON IN A 4 V 5) OR TB loses to New Orleans Carolina beats Atl Washington Beats Philly or dallas loses to the rams (GIANTS PLAY WASHINGTON IN A 3 V 6) Scenarios to play Dallas TB loses to New Orleans Washington loses to Philly Carolina beats ATL dallas beats rams (Giants play DAL in a 3 v 6) skins out OR TB beats New Orleans Washington loses to Philly Carolina loses to ATL dallas beats rams (Giants play Dallas in a 4 v 5) skins out If the Giants lose and the Skins win, I think the Giants are guaranteed the 6th seed, but I could be wrong on that. They would lose a tie-breaker with Tampa, assuming Tampa also loses, and I THINK they would lose a tie-breaker with Carolina. |
Re: playoff scenarios, what to wish for today
Now that the Bears have clinched the number 2 seed, and the Giants have also clinched atleast a 6 seed with the Vikings loss, I think the best case scenario for the Redskins would be first and foremorest, beat the Eagles, and then have the Giants lose in Oakland on New Years eve, the Bucs beat the Saints to clinch the division and third seed, the Panthers beat ATL to clinch the 5th seed. We would be the 4th seed and have a home game against the Panthers; a very inconsistent team that does not play well on the road.
THe Seahawks would be the 1st seed THe Bears would be the 2nd seed THe bucs would be the 3rd seed the redskins would be the 4th seed the panthers would be the 5th seed and the Giants would be the 6th seed BEST OF ALL, the COWBOYS would not be in the playoffs. |
Re: playoff scenarios, what to wish for today
Bucs will win, Redskins will win, Giants will win, Dallas will win. I think the very questionable game is the ATL vs CAR game. Game is in ATL and I think Jim Mora plays for the win to possibly knock out the Panthers from the playoffs. So say ATL beats the Panthers my prediction I think would work out like this:
1 Seahawks 2 Bears (we beat both the Seahawks and the Bears this season!!!) 3 Giants 4 Bucs 5 Redskins 6 Cowboys I think Carolina is out if they lose and the others win due to NFC records http://www.nfl.com/standings |

Re: playoff scenarios, what to wish for today
You are correct.
1 Seahawks 2 Bears (we beat both the Seahawks and the Bears this season!!!) 3 Bucs 4 Giants 5 Redskins 6 Cowboys And might I add that I don't wanna play the Giants at the Meadowlands for the wildcard game! Rather play the Bucs or the Panthers. But whoever it will be comes after a 'real' playoff game in PHILI on Sunday! KILL THE EAGLES!!! |
Re: playoff scenarios, what to wish for today
i dont care who it is.we have already proved that we can beat anyone(except for the afc)and we are playing our best football right now.lets just get in first
|
Re: playoff scenarios, what to wish for today
We must win this week, and after that a home game would be great because I would get to go. Why? My brother in law has season tics, first his friend stood him up for a game (he's out) his wife would have to work that day (she's out) only two children which only one if any would want to go leaving 2 tickets. I've been to all but one game with him and usualy pay for the rooms if we stay the night, and I always cook alot of good food and bring plenty of cold beer keeping him happy. So I'm in as number 3 seed and may be as number 2 seed.
|
Re: playoff scenarios, what to wish for today
The seahawks and bears have only one conference loss apiece. Guess to which team? That's right - that's how important those wins are. One could argue that the Bears and Seahawks lost to us relatively early in the year, but then we weren't a good team early in the year either. Presently, we ARE a good team. If there's anything Gibbs has brought with him, its the amazing ability to hold a team together through thick and thin.
