Draft Day Trade Scenario
 

Ok, let's assume we draftTaylor at #5 and as the draft progresses someone picks Steven Jackson in the 10-15 range.. If Udeze or Will Smith falls to 21, should we offer our 2005 1st round pick to the Pats and draft one of them? The Pats want a back in the 1st round, but if Jackson is gone at 21, they can get Kevin Jones, Greg Jones or Chris Perry at 32 and we know how they love to stockpile picks... Just a thought..

kevin jones won't slip to #32 as the cowboys have reportedly gained a lot of interest in him and he or jackson r the best fits into New England's offense so they'll take which ever one is left to them when they have their first selection. I'd like the idea of getting a young, talented d-lineman as well as taylor or winslow but would we even have enough cap room to sign more than one 1st round pick if after certain players r either traded or dumped and we make a move to sign holdman as well as a cheap pass rush specialist hopefully? I think I'd asked before about what type of contract and bonus r we looking at for the player we draft if we stick at #5, but I don't think it got answered. wouldn't the signing bonus be around 8 million and the length be about 5 or 6 years with a size of about 20 million? am I close in those estimations cuz I can't really remember to much about the early picks contracts last year except that palmer got 40 mil plus didn't he and a 12 million or so signing bonus?

I dont think it would make sense for us to give up next years first for a late round pick this year. We would only give up next years pick to get winslow and taylor this year, and thats not an easy scenerio

We're gonna be picking very late next year.... :food-smil ...but I wouldn't do it...unless we could pull off winslow and taylor.....ahhhh...that would be incredible but out of reach I believe. I say stick with Taylor or wheel and deal to improve the line..

I hope they dont trade down. TECHNICALLY, if we traded with NE we coudl get Ben Troupe to play TE and then get a DT...but then wed have another gator on our team.. So lets just not have a draft next year and get Taylor and Winslow, you all know damn well that Synder will get rid of all the remaining picks before the draft anyways

Here's an off the wall idea. I came up with a truly NBA-On-The-Eve-Of-The-Trading-Deadline style "blockbuster" trade that would net us both Taylor and Winslow. Impossible? No way! Far fetched? Hell yeah! But it's really sly, like a fox!

Here's where we stand right now...

1. San Diego. Will probably take a QB, though may not want to pick #1. Schotty is said to really be enamoured with Big Ben.
2. Raiders. Probably standing pat. Either Roy Williams or Gallery. If Gallery is picked here, this whole thing goes down the tubes. Al Davis makes me nervous.
3. Cards. Fitzgerald is Denny Green's boy.
4. Giants LOVE Eli Manning and want to trade up.
5. Skins, Baby!
6. Lions. See whole Taylor/Winslow/Belichick Drama.
7. Browns. The final and most interesting piece of the puzzle. They are rumored to really want Gallery and want to trade up to get him.

So here it goes:

We start this out with a first, fifth, and sixth round pick in 2004. Suprisingly, we still have all our picks in 2005 (wow!).

1. Trade our #5 overall and sixth rounder to the Browns for their #7 and third round pick. Browns will get their man at #5, no sweat.

2. Trade the #7 overall, our third rounder from the Browns, and Rod Gardner to the Bolts for the #1 overall. Puts us in the driver's seat and removes SD from "The Ryan Leaf Spolight". If we think a third is the best we can get for RG, then a plenty high draft pick and essentially two thirds should be plenty of incentive for the Bolts. Gardner's a Mart guy. Marty may overinflate his worth. At number seven, the Chargers can easily get Roethlisberger.

3. Now the fun part. Giants want Manning. We have the number one. What to do, what to do.. BAM! Trade the number one overall, plus maybe a player (Betts? they need RB help) and next years forth for the Giants first and second this year. I think even the Vikings could pull off drafting Manning at this point.

4. And the coup de gras... The Lions want picks, so let's give them picks! They need defense, so let's give them defense! Trade our number one next year, second rounder from the Giants, our fifth round pick this year, and Mr. Trotter for the number 6 overall pick this year. No number one next year, but it seemed like Gibbs almost never had first round picks in the 80's.

So now the draft order is...

1. Giants (Manning)
2. Raiders (Roy Williams)
3. Cards (Fitzgerald)
4. Redskins (Taylor)
5. Browns (Gallery)
6. Redskins (Winslow)
7. Chargers (Roethlisberger)

Pick wise, after the first round, we would have no picks left this year and would be down our number one next year. But we'd get our Hurricanes and could go play golf the rest of the weekend.

See? Easy as pie! I should be a GM!

Actually, the only reason I know this would work is that an anagram of "Rodney Gardner" is "Darn Yer Red Dong". If that doesn't make everything crystal clear, nothing will!

Are we only allowed to trade our picks for 2005? Perhaps work on picks over the next ten years and then draft Taylor and Winslow. And while were at it get Big Daddy Vince Wilfork to sure up the d-line. Draft D.J. Williams and Vilma to 'have depth' at lineback. Plus D.J. Williams would be the H-back in punting situations, is versatile like Mitchell. He ran back some fake snaps for touchdowns last season becuase he was the number one half back out of highschool.

No one wants a Skin on the cover of Madden next year, but what about Snyder, he essentially is playing madden football with a real team.. If anyone deserves the cover its him

The reason I ask is that there was a rumor flying around down there that had the Skins, Chargers and Browns in a draft pick and player swap that was only a little less complicated than a Middle East Peace Plan. You managed to toss the Giants into the mix and make it as simple to untangle as a plate of spaghetti.

Interestingly, the key name in the "Florida rumor" was Gallery because about 10 teams supposedly want him desperately.

Wow, I like any deal that nets us K2 and Taylor, and we all know that Snyder must keep $8 mil in bonus money in the candy dish in his jar because he is the only guy I've never seen him sweat paying anyone anything. $17 mil for Portis, $10 mil each for LaVar and Samuels, I mean this guy sweats money. But I don't know how in the world they'd be able to take on two more big contracts. We'd have a bunch of millionaires and James Thrash.

One thing though, we traded our 2005 5th rounder for Thrash, so we'd be short a 1st and 5th next year, but I wouldn't be worried about it....
