So, which one happens next:

A. The Redskins and Trent Williams kiss and makeup over a contract extension.
B. The Redskins attempt to put Trent on the exempt list so he doesn't accrue a year.
C. Trent Williams pretends that Bruce Allen is Richard Sherman.
D. Both B and C.

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins

Bruce Allen proved, once again, why he is the worst GM in the NFL. Instead of trying to trade TW BEFORE the season started, when teams were searching for an elite OT, BA waited until the next-to-last day to offer him up. The Redskins looked desperate with this last minute move and the only team which was looking for an OT, the Cleveland Browns, wouldn’t give Bruce the first round draft pick he wanted. In SEPTEMBER, many teams were calling the Redskins for TW. The Texans gave up TWO first round draft picks and more to Miami for an OT who wasn’t in the same class as TW and who BTW hasn’t done shitte for them since the trade. Teams needed a seven Pro Bowl OT to fill holes before the season started, not with just hours to go before the deadline in the middle of the season. Eventually all those potential trade partners filled that hole. Now if a team needs an OT, they’ll draft for one.

So Bruce’s decision to “punish” TW by not trading him, has instead hurt the Redskins in several ways:

1. TW will never play for this team again. His hole in the OL must be filled this offseason, because we have a 36-year old OT who is just place holding that spot right now. The Redskins now have a depreciating asset that is worth less and less everyday.

2. Bruce Allen showed the NFL why he is considered the least-competent and disliked GM in the NFL. The “ USA Today” poll two years ago stated that’s what players and their agents thought of BA. Players in today’s NFL want to be traded all the time and 99% of the teams make the best trade they can from their disgruntled employee and move on. The move to hurt TW by not trading him looks stupid and amateurish.

3. This shows other players in the last year of their contract, who the team might want to keep, like Scherff or CT that the Redskins are vindictive and petty. After seeing what happened with Cousins or TW, would you want to deal with this management or trust them?

4. The team is in the worst position now because they have no draft pick to fill his OT hole and teams now know the redskins are desperate to trade TW as his value steadily decreases.

By making no trades, either to get rid of players who won’t be here next season OR to get one or two “fire sale” players to fill obvious holes in the team (like TE or the OL) Bruce Allen and Snyder show they have no real plan for getting better. Perhaps BA and Snyder think that their 1-7 record is just a fluke and the team is just ready to turn the corner toward success.

Absolutely terrible management. Bruce should be fired for botching this one. There is no factual evidence that the Redskins won not moving Trent. We should have had a fire sale being 1-7. Now we worsen any real chance at getting better next season. God awful franchise with an owner that is mocked and made the joke regularly on NFL shows. I have been a fan for almost 50 years and it's the worst product I've ever seen from this once proud franchise...

Going to be interesting to see what we do with our pick. Going to have a lot of good options. I want Andrew Thomas or Chase Young. There are some good skill guys out there too. Freaking sucks that instead of having Trent for another full year, we will have to spend at least 1 pick on a T.

Depends how he goes about not playing.

If he fakes a bullshit injury resulting in the medical staff not clearing him to play, then he'd get paid this year and next year would be his last under contract with the Skins.

If he's healthy and just refuses to play that would be violation of the contract terms somehow and the team would have legal recourse. I'm not sure what happens then - that would be uncharted territory.

If he's truly not going to play, I would assume it would take the form of pulling a Jalen Ramsey with "back spasms" or some bullshit.

But get ready for the DC media to go hard trashing everybody and stirring it up after the WS is over.

My question is this, how will Bruce trash Trent in leaks to the press? that train is never late

I don't buy the notion that TW's stock goes down just because he will have 1 year left on his deal vs 2. Anyone who trades for him will need to give him a new deal anyway, so it's a moot point.

Agreed. If anything, his stock may go up a bit. Trents has quite an injury history. He misses several games a year due to various injuries and then has played through several injuries that would have kept most other guys out. Assuming he's staying in shape and taking care of himself, I imagine taking an entire year off of football will have done a lot to help him get in healthier than he's been his entire career.

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins

An accrued season is a season during which a player has been on a team’s roster for six or more regular season games.

- Players will receive an accrued season while on the team’s roster, receiving their full pay while on the active/inactive lists and injured reserve list.

- Players will not receive an accrued season while on the team’s practice squad, physically unable to perform (PUP), non-football injury (NFI), or the Exempt Commissioner Permission list.
https://www.hogshaven.com/2019/7/13/18660847/salary-cap-nuggets-no-10-accrued-seasons-and-their-importance-in-the-cba
------------------------------------

Trent needs to be on the Skins active, inactive or IR for 6 or more games to earn an "accrued" year.

What can Bruce do to keep him from earning an accrued season?

- Practice Squad? no, he would be eligible to be signed to another teams 53.
- Commish Exempt List? no, Trent hasnt done anything negative off the field. AP was placed on this for the child abuse charges while the league was deciding whether to suspend him or not. NFLPA filed a grievance on his behalf.

- NFI and PUP? Maybe. Are we entering Albert Haynesworth territory? Trent says he is healthy enough to practice but then "sprains an ankle" before kick off? Does he have to maintain a thin line of being healthy enough to practice but not healthy enough to play?

What stops the skins from putting him on PUP the second he complains of any minor thing?

Apparently, if Trent showed up for just one practice in the pre season and then held out, the Skins would not be able to put him on the PUP list this season.

"If a player practices during training camp, they are not eligible for the PUP list. Instead, the team has to cut the player or put them on injured reserve."

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins

We could have a draft pick to talk about, now we’re discussing how TW gets his year credit and doesn’t play for us. 19 out of 32 teams made trade deals this season. Most losing teams are being aggressive. BA and Snyder do nothing.

We’ll loss Scherff - he’s not even talking to us anymore. Another hole in the OL.
Need to be on placed PUP before training camp.
Idk .. is it you have to be on the PUP list prior to TC or you cannot have practiced during TC. Practically speaking, I imagine it means the same thing in 99.99% of situations but here, Trent might be that unique case.

He might be PUP eligible. I really dont know. I am reading conflicting things every day as we get into the deep minut of the CBA ..that I dont think covers this situation directly.

Whats done is done, Im just going to sit back and watch it play out. Im Trent > Bruce but at this point, post trade deadline .... I really dont care too hard what happens now.

All TW needs to do is report, fall down on the first block and say he got hit in the head. no one in the league is going to challenge concussion like symptoms.

Would not be surprised to see TW suspended for conduct detrimental to the team. This would probably prevent his contract from tolling and give the Skins a reason to continue not paying him. Plus, it would be an opportunity for Bruce Allen to make the situation even worse than it already is.
