Summer Vacation Plans and Stories

Didnt see a summer vacation thread, with the nice weather coming in I know alot of us will be taking weekend getaways so I figured I'd start a thread where you can post where your going then write a review afterwards telling us the good, bad and ugly of the places you went.

Me and my girl are going to rehoboth beach this weekend (too old to fight the drunk 18 yr olds in ocean city). Staying at this place that looks like a dump called Summerplace but $75 for a condo on the beach is to sweet to pass up considering any other place I found was $200.

If anyone has been to rehoboth, stayed at summerplace or can recommend a good bar to watch the first few hours of the draft it would be much appreciated. Also are there any good spots to throw a line in the water from a pier or dock?

go skins!!

Re: Summer Vacation Plans and Stories

My summer plans have not gone so well. First the cruise I won was cancealed by my company because they thought it might not look good (remember the AIG stuff). Now next week me and 15 other guys are heading to Myrtle Beach to golf and the fire has damaged two of the courses we were going to play. I also hear that the fire is getting worse so who knows if we will even go. The good news is my sister has 8 weeks at this place in Nags Head and she offered us one of the weeks they cannot use. Its only about 1 1/2 hours from my house and it is right on the beach. The master bedroom is on the third floor and you wake up looking out over the ocean.

I'm going to New Orleans next month, got plenty of shows lined up for the summer that I'm really pumped about. Seeing Bruce Springsteen, Coldplay, Dave Matthews, 311, and Eddie Vedder. Got the usual summer parties lined up too. Gonna be a busy summer.

I am exicited about this summer as well. Last year we had a new born so must of the summer was sleepless nights and attending to a baby who could not go outdoors.

I hope to get a trip into the OC and maybe some other extend weekend trips. I liked to do some camping but maybe not until next year.

I am just happy to be out of the worst months of the year, Jan to April.

In 2 months I'm going to the Outer Banks with a bunch of friends. We got one of those huge house on the beach for a week. Lots of grilling, lots of frozen drinks and cold beer, good times all around. I'm really looking forward to it because I really didn't take a vacation last year.

Then in late August my parents rented a place in OC for a week, so I'll probably spend a long weekend down there. Should be a relaxing time with the family.

Nothing better then a place right on the beach. Its like you don't even go out to have some fun as its right in the back yard. I'm lucky and we got a place right on the beach for free and we live within 1 1/2 hours from Nags Head so we are going to invite a few friends down for a night or two. My parent own a place around the 8 1/2 mile marker but its not on the beach but we will be going there for several weekends this summer.

I'll be splitting my time equally between Manassas, Newport, Rhode Island, and Bar Harbour, Maine. Spiggy and Doo-doo are supposed to come down for a couple of weeks in July, but I have made them promise to stay off of the brown liquor (this mainly applies to Doo-doo but you all know how I hate to single people out). In August, 70Chip III will arrive for his annual de-campment and I hope to have all properties cleared of hangers on and leaches by that time. Father and son will then be free to pass the time playing violent video games, watching South Park and eating ice-cream "straight out the box, fool". The boy will clear out just in time for my annual 100,000 mile Labor-Day check in at the Hazeldon Clinic in Minnesota. So, the usual for me.

I grew up in Newport and my folks still have a condo there off Bellevue. We hope to go there for an extended weekend as well.

Nothing like walking/crawling the bars of Thames St. on a summer night. I love to eat at the Brick Alley Pub as well.

My brother is getting married in England this August so I'm there boozing it with socialists. I'm planning a Euro trip after the wedding is done with. I have three weeks of vacation time saved up so I'ma do it real big son. The tentative list of destinations include Netherlands (you know what it is), France (Paris and maybe Nice), Italy (Florance, and Pisa), Czech Republic (Prague), and maybe Poland.

It's going to be highway robbery with the exchange rate for sure. Honestly though, go to a bar round Seattle area and you'll find yourself paying $5 for a pint.

Re: Summer Vacation Plans and Stories

I rented a gulf front home just south of Tampa for a week next month and also an ocean front house in Nags Head for Labor day week. The interesting thing about the FL trip is that we're gonna hop on a train in Lorton that will take us and the car down to FL. Called the Auto Train. We were gonna fly, but my parents, who we're taking, liked the idea of the train. So we're going to try it.

The OBX house is one of those monster houses. My wife and I rent it and invite all of our family and friends (don't tell Daseal) each year. People come and go all week and it is just a great time.

A perfect opportunity to turn the table on our English cousins by inviting yourself to the summer home of one of the wedding guests and then staying for an indeterminate period of time. When they start to drop hints that you may be wearing out your welcome, pretend as though you don't hear them. As far as I can tell, this is the English strategy when visiting America.

Never heard of Summerplace, but it looks like it's in the quiet part of town.

Eats: My favorite place down there is called El Dorado. Their main attraction is their fish tacos (Guy who owns is used to have a baja taco stand in Mexico for years). Their burritos are good, as well as their guac. Fish tacos may sound weird, but these are the best.

Subs, I like Louie's Pizza, 4 doors down from the boards on Rehoboth Avenue.

If crabs are your interest, my family's go-to place is Lazy Susan's, Route 1 North near the turn off for the Cape May Ferry.

For casual to a little upscale, there is Fins Raw Bar. They have 6 different types of oysters daily, shucked right at in front of you at the bar. The Cultured Pearl is right down the street from them, and has great Japanese food and sushi. Dogfish Head Brewpub has awesome beers (I recommend the 90 Minute IPA) and food.

As far as places to watch the draft, there is Fins, Dogfish Head, Grotto Pizza (both boardwalk locations have separate bars), and Hooters.

Have a blast.

dang it i wish i had read this before we left, living right above TJ for years gave me a fish taco addiction (only if done right, baja style)

Summerplace was a cool place to stay for people without kids. for $75 the condo was def worth it comparatively. Honestly didnt even spend more than 5 mins in there until 3 am.

well me and my girl are bar hopping drunks so we had a great time. went to every bar there was, ate dinner at summerhouse, real good at a fair price so i know why it was packed.

highlight for me was drunk walking in the tide line with my girl, saw a hermit crab (i think) try and burrow into the sand but i was able to get em. something about wildlife and cold beer makes me feel connected as a man.

highlight for my girl was her getting up on a lil stage with this flaming gay and awesome piano man, she did this jazzy sexy number, when she came down the whole bar gave her a standing ovation, when we left it was to a standing O. a block down she was glowing, one of those life moment deals, wanted to go back but i was like "un un baby, you went out on top". stopped in some many bars i cant even remember now. around last call i ordered a ton of shots and beers b/c we failed to stock up our fridge. walked back to the condo with about 5 opened but full beers in my pockets. then certain people blacked out and things got alil crazy, i sleep on the sofa. alas even on vacation there a sofa somewhere waiting for a man to rest his head.

all in all a great time, at 30 i think i party to hard sometimes, rehoboth was alil to quiet for me, OC is alil to young drunk . . . the search for a cool beach (on the east coast) that fits me perfectly is still on going. thinking OBX next

PS - i did wake up with a ton of bug bites. sweet, they must have liked what they were tasting and came back for more. . . or got drunk off my sweat and didnt know any better. j/k

pss- managed to do alil ish talkin to this eagles couple too! we were all drinking, laughing watching the draft then i said to my girl "babe, did you bring that broom with us" she said "what broom?", i said "you know that big ole whoopin stick broom we used on the eagles last year." the eagles guy was like "aww man come on, i knew you wouldnt be able to hold off" . . then went on to discuss the eagles making so far in the playoffs, etc . .

go skins!!

No the beer is only $4.00 but they have like a $4.00 tax added to the beer bring it to around $8.00 but I'm sure you don't mind that.

Yep Dewey Beach between Memorial Day and Labor Day is one big drunk fest. Stay in Rehoboth for the quiet hangover sleep and party in Dewey, and you'll be golden.

No doubt....Disney is NOT cheap, but they KNOW what they are doing. They go to GREAT extremes to make you have a good time. You will love the Wilderness campground. Much for you and the little ones to do. I stayed there with my kids a few years ago. Got to see a night Shuttle launch from D-world.......cool
