Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
Let's have a direct discussion. If you're the Redskins who do you pick? Why? Do you pay the King's Ransom for the 2nd pick to pick the Hesiman trophy winner? Should you lure the former MVP and use the draft/ free agency to build a team around him.
You can't pick both as Rich Tandler has pointed out Redskins must choose between Manning, Griffin - Rich Tandler's Real Redskins Great offseason discussion! |
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
Griffin. Without any question whatsoever.
|
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
RG3. 2-3 years with an older and fragile QB is not how we get our franchise back to winning regularly. We do it through building through the draft with smart FA pieces to help out.
|
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
Griffin. Definitely.
Otherwise you are mortgaging some of your future (There are NO guarantees we can land a franchise QB next year or the year after or...) for a MAYBE in Manning. Don't get me wrong... I'll be ectsatic if we land Manning... But I REALLY, REALLY, want OUR OWN P or E Manning / Brady / Rodgers / Brees / Roethlisberger / C Newton / Franchise QB.... One to be ours for 10-15 years of greatness. |
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
Griffin
|
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
You would have to go with RGIII simply because of his age.

Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
G-to-the-R-to-the-I-to-the-doublr-F-to-the-I-to-the-N GRIFFIN!!!
|
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
I disagree with some of Tandler's assumptions. I think we still could have both.
But since the OP said choose only one, I take the long-term promise of RGIII. |
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
Mods can you make a poll for this thread for me please... Thanks
|
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
Griffin. This isn't even a question.
I would only SETTLE for Peyton. |
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
Griiffin. I believe Manning is done
|
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
RGIII. Sure it is hard to say if RGIII will be the next Manning or the next Shuler. I am ready to think about long term not another possible quick fix (although we know how well those have worked for the Skins).

Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
It's not as simple as asking to choose between RGIII and Peyton. The real question is which package would you rather have?
Which would you choose? Package A: 1) RGIII Package B: 1) Peyton Manning (while using 3rd rounder to draft Kirk Cousins) 2) Reily Reiff -OT (1st) 3) Alfonso Denard-CB (2nd) 4) Lucas Nix -OG (4th) 5) Manti Te'o - ILB (2013 1st) 6) Orhian Johnson -SS (2013 4th) That's about what you'll have to pay to get RGIII. SO tell me, which would you chose? Put your mancrush down and think sensible. Knowing the holes we have, would you honestly give up all that for RGIII? If you whiff on that pick, you are screwed for many many years to come. You whiff on Cousins, and you pick up a QB later on and still have a solid team. Package B all day....ERRR DAY. |
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
This is going to be a one-sided thread. Griffin.

Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
Manning is a SURE bet HOF QB, that when healthy could lead us very very far.. RG3 is a unproven QB with amazing skills but again how many Rookie QB fail? I want to say RG3 but Honestly this is a win now league and I believe PM has 3 years left so I'm going w Manning

I bet if Peyton went on the market during Cerrato's regime, health issues or not, he'd snap him up in a heartbeat. So theoretically wouldn't you be advocating the Cerrato regime? |

The difference is, Vinny always put all his eggs in one basket, I would not. (neither would Shanahan) |
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
Honestly why can't we have both?
|
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
The answer almost certain depends on the timing. I mean, in a world where both guys are viable solutions, you take Manning 100 out of 100 times, right? Am I missing something?
I don't know right now how viable Peyton Manning is as anyone's starting quarterback in 2012, so it would be foolish to hold out for his health if there is a way to acquire Robert Griffin tomorrow (although as far as I know, there isn't). And once you have Robert Griffin, the only point of getting Manning would be to do a one-night stand win the super bowl now kind of deal. And that requires a whole bunch of unexplained reasoning to unsolved problems. In a vacuum with no qualifications, you'd take Peyton Manning and I'm not sure I see an alternative line of thinking. But in his current state, Manning isn't particularly useful. And Griffin could be a sensational player very soon. |

But seriously though- I'm with you NC. I can take it one step further too- regardless of what the armchair qb experts may believe- there could be a chance that the shanahans may see Tannehill as their future franchise qb. And if they pick up Manning and draft Tannehill- you can have both of the short-term win now and the long-term franchise building solutions all in one offseason. I don't know about anyone else but I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that Tannehill turns out to be that guy and redskins have first dibs. |

Man, another QB thread? How many variations of scenarios do we need specific threads for?

Also this. S/N: Does this mean I can't start a thread to discuss a scenario where we trade down, pick up 4 2nd round picks, and use them to draft Tannehill, Foles, Cousins, Weeden, and Osweiler, and thus create Lotus' Long Term Backup Barn 2.0? |

Well there's one that agrees w me |
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
If RGIII is that franchise QB, I don't care about Riley Reiff, Manti Te'o, Alfonzo Denard, or Andersen "The Spider" Silva. A franchise QB makes all those holes disappear so I send my 1st rounder in 2012 and 2013, as well as a 3rd this year and a 4th next year for my QB and we are still left with:
2nd, 4th, 4th, 5th, 7th plus FA. You mean to tell me we can't fill holes with that? I don't want Manning. |

Defense. CBs/Safeties/ILB OL - right tackle, OG, C This team has more holes than just the QB. |

Most smart teams build their team via draft and supplement via FA. We have been doing the opposite up until this past year. I like the new way. |

Hey you stole that approach from cerrato- the "if you throw enough sh*t at the wall something's bound to stick" method of drafting. It looks like Fred Davis proved he was the sh*t from that class of receivers. |

Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
I think RGIII will fall to #6 and thus requires no trade-up.
We could have both PM and RGIII perhaps, if we desired. |

Get a different free agent and draft a different rookie this year and add 5-10 starters (not necessarily day 1 starters) between free agency and the draft. Continue to BUILD for the long run. |

I make the trade for the guy who I think will be the face of my franchise for the next 15 seasons. Fill my holes with smart FA signings like we have been doing. You can stockpile all the picks you want but without a QB you'll be drafting in the top 10 every year. Eventually you got to pull the trigger. |
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
And I still think RGIII will be there at #6 but if we want to trade up for him, I'm not against it.
