QB or BPA for our #1 Draft Pick - 2020

The Redskins will most likely have the # 1 or #2 choice in the 2020 draft. Although there is some who want the team to trade down for more draft picks, this is time to draft a truly transformational player who can become a real superstar that the offense or defense could be built around. Right now Cinny has the first pick and will most likely go with Burrows q(QB).

How should the Redskins draft with this Uber-high draft pick? Most mock draft sites Have us taking the Best Player Available (BPA), the amazing Edge rusher from Ohio st - Chase Young. He would make our DL absolutely fierce. With the addition of Young AND getting a real, NFL-savvy DC, the Redskins defense could easily move from bottom-feeding into the top 50% in a single season. Right now the defense is poorly coached.

Another option deals with the rather mediocre play of last years pick at #15: Dwayne Haskins. Is he the franchise QB for the next decade? Or will he take several years to coach up and then be just average?
OR will the team waste 20-30 games to find out he’s a flat out bust like Shuler, Jason Campbell or RG3?

Unfortunately, the Redskins will have to evaluate Haskins, with a mediocre OL and a WR/TE group that has one elite player: McLaurin. I am shocked by Haskins, not for his rookie mistakes but for his poor fundamentals - happy feet, weak view of the field and mediocre accuracy. So do we do a St Louis and draft two “future” QB two years in a row? Let them battle it out next TC?

Until his hip injury, Tua was the QB everyone drooled over. The once-a-decade talent at the most important position in football. His injury will make him fall, but not very far. Should we pick him at #2? Tua or Young? What say you all?

Haskins pissed me off in the 1st half yesterday. But the whole team shit themselves, and I took it out on him more than I should've. I think we have to at least give him this season and next before taking a QB. Give me Chase Young or Andrew Thomas.

I looked up mocks last night .. all have us taking LT Andrew Thomas. While I am sure Thomas may be a great player and we would be blessed to go Chris Samuels = Trent = Thomas ... I dont know how you pass up on Chase Young, even though we have spent soo many high draft picks on edge.

At #2 overall ... if you dont go BPA ... you are the reactionary redskins.

Tua? I dont know if he is really all that. Im sure he is polished and can read defenses but after reading the scouting reports it seems like Alabama has him get the ball out to his athletes with 5-15 yard passes. Not bad at all for a West Coast 3-5 step drop get the ball out offense.

Burrows or Chase Young for me.

You’re probably right. The offense has so many holes or non-performing players it’s difficult to really evaluate Haskins. The thing that pissed me off MOST about the Jets game was seeing Crowder torch us, just like DeSean Jackson did in the Philly game. The Redskins have let three excellent WR leave the team (Jackson, 1000 yd/yr WR, Garçon, 1000 TD/yr WR and now Crowder who was a top slot WR) while retaining draft busts like Doctson or overpaid FA like Richardson who is either injured or underachieving . We’re like the dog dropping the bone in the water because he sees a bigger bone in the reflection.

Wow. I was looking at about 4 mock draft yesterday (CBS, ESPN,USA TODAY) and they all had us taking Young. Because of Tua’s injury they all may be realigning.

Young would replace Kerrigan, who is a great Redskin and model veteran but fading. Chase would give us an awesome rush, especially if we had a real DC, instead of the worst one in the NFL.

At this point you have to at least make an attempt to build around Haskins and give him more than 8 games to prove himself.

IMO, if you believe Chase Young is a transformational Pass Rusher, then no question you take him. If he isn't there when we pick, then Id hold this pick for ransom with the intent of getting an additional 1st round pick for the following year and trying to add a second round pick this year.

I'd rather trade down and go BPA.

It's only Haskins second start, he needs much more time. I won't write him off yet.

Nice. I googled it last night and just clicked the first few that popped up. Sporting news, Walter football and another had us taking Andrew Thomas. I was surprised/disappointed but give 0 stock to these.

I am still all for trading down from #2 for multiple picks, the team just has too many holes to fill. As for Haskins he is an obvious product of racking up video game numbers in college due to being on a team with superior talent. He is a fundamental mess, he has project tattooed on his forehead. The fundamentals are so bad, and combined with everything else there will be no chance to get a solid evaluation of his future potential in just the half dozen remaining games this season.

If a team with the third or fourth pick covets Buttow, Young, or Tua, and we've got one of the top two picks, I'd trade down to pick up a second rounder and draft Thomas at 1.3 or 1.4. Thomas would immediately improve both Haskins and Guice's chances of stepping up, IMO. Getting that second rounder would be huge, since we traded ours for Sweat.

I think the draft philosophy should always be BPA unless there is someone willing to make you a trade offer you can't refuse. Having a top 5 pick should give us the option for a playmaker though, and given the amount of holes this team has it shouldn't be a tough decision. Reaching to fill a need is never a wise decision.

No one throws a better deep ball then Tua. Most pros don't throw a better deep ball than he does. The kid is special. Sucks that he got hurt but he'll recover. Durability will be the question mark, his talent can not be questioned.

Re: QB or BPA for our #1 Draft Pick - 2020

An Andrew Thomas, Guice, Harmon, McLaurin, Haskins offensive core would have me excited for the future.

I think we have a core on defense already with the DL, Collins, and Dunbar. Then again Chase Young is a stud.

To me you can't go wrong with Thomas or Young and I'm taking one of them unless I get an RG3/Ditka type trade offer.

We need studs, get a stud. We have cap space to fill in other holes.

Oh, and I'm not resigning Scherff, Moses is a fucking goner, along with Reed and Davis and Norman. We could have a shit ton of space to sign a couple solid lineman and get a difference maker or 2 at other positions.

Let's see how the kid does the remainder of the season before we talk QB with the 1st rounder. I just want to see more improvement, be more decisive, let plays develop downfield, convert more 3rd downs, take less sacks, stop jumping in the air when you throw the ball.

Meanwhile Kirk Cousins is playing as good as any QB in football.

He does some strange things for absolutely no reason. Most of the time when you see a QB throw side arm, off his back foot, off balance etc,etc it is because he has defenders in his face. Haskins will do it from a clean pocket with clear throwing lanes. I think he needs to have a QB coach live with him during the off season, he won't amount to anything until he is fundamentally sound.
