PS3 Games Must Have (That Are Not New)

I'm wanting to expand my PS3 game collection, but I don't really have $50 to go out and buy the latest and greatest game (I usually buy the Madden game new every other year.) But, which games for the PS3 would you recommend getting that might be a couple years old or so? I only seem to be good at the shooter games that I can play on a PC (with a keyboard and mouse.) Here are the games I currently have:

1. Madden (8 & 10)
2. NHL 08
3. Guitar Hero Metallica
4. Guitar Hero Van Halen
5. Guitar Hero Areosmith
6. Tiger Woods 08'
7. Need For Speed (I can't remember which one right now)
8. Tekken
9. NCAA Football 10

Ones I am curious about are Grand Theft Auto IV, the wrestling game with the classic wrestlers, NCAA Basketball or any of the NBA games, whatever you guys suggest. I'm wanting something older that I don't have to pay full price for. Something I can pick up rather cheaply off of eBay, Amazon, or Half.com. Thanks in advance.

Re: PS3 Games Must Have (That Are Not New)

Personally I would highly recommend:

God of War III
Heavy Rain (Highly recommended by me but might not be your cup of tea)
Uncharted I and II (Beautiful visuals combine with a great story. Pretty easy to beat on the lower difficulty levels. It's considered by many to be the most visually advanced console game on the market, well the second one, first one is still pretty beautiful in terms of graphics.)
Metal Gear Solid 4
Dead Space (probably Dead Space 2 as well but I can't speak from experience)
Mass Effect 2
Infamous (GTA style with super powers, lots of fun. Lets you decide weather or not you want to be a hero or a villain)
Fifa
NHL
Assassins Creed II and Brotherhood
Bioshock
Mafia 2
Dead Rising 2
MLB 10/11 The Show
GTA IV
Most of the acton/adventure games I've listed you could easily beat with a one or two week rental, so Gamefly might be a good option if you're penny pinching. Also I've never played it but Little Big Planet comes highly recommended. Mass Effect 2 you would probably need to own to beat but I've loved it so far.

Here's some other games I've tried that you may end up loving but were either mediocre or average when I got around to playing them:

Killzone 2 (3 is coming up as well, I would only rent this for the sake of seeing how far the PS3 can push an HDTV but other then that it's overrated and tedious, I traded it in after a week)
Final Fantasy XIII
Fallout 3
Resident Evil 5
NBA 2K11
I would like to add Heavenly Sword to Dirtbag's list. It's not very long and easy to get the hang of. For more difficulty you can play on Hell mode.

Plain and simple it's just a fun game.

If you're a RPG fan I very highly recommend Dragon Age Origins and the add-on, Dragon Age: The Awakening.

If a game doesn't challenge me to think strategically like Madden or a good RPG does, then I generally lose interest.

Absolutely love Dragon Age. Fall Out New Vegas is pretty sweet and it was on sale for awhile for $36 or something. You can get Dragons Age plus the expansion for $56 which is a pretty good deal as the expansion alone is $26 or so. I recently bought Madden 11 used.

Re: PS3 Games Must Have (That Are Not New)

Guys, I was looking at buying Dragon Age myself for the PS3. Is it a huge online game?, or can you play it offline by yourself and still enjoy it? I am a big Lord of the Rings Online gamer on my PC, when I'm not playing Madden 11 on my PS3. I see Dragon Age as a Lord of the Rings/World of Warcraft kind of game. How do those games translate on consoles verses PCs?

Re: PS3 Games Must Have (That Are Not New)

Thanks guys!
Dirtbag, thank you for that list of games. I was browsing through those last night.

The thing with the Game Stop in town is that any used game that might be worth buying are usually still kind of expensive to me. I feel like I would have to trade in three or four games to have enough points/money (however they do it) to buy one decent game. Maybe I'm wrong on that, I dunno.

I don't play very many games online...I tend to stick with offline playing unless it's one of my friends that I see on a regular basis. I love the first person shooter games on a PC, but I have had a difficult time trying to maneuver and shoot with a controller. I don't suppose the PS3 Keyboard would help with that would it? I haven't played an RPG in a long, long time. One reason is that I don't spend as much time on videos games as I used to. But I suppose if I found an easy RPG that isn't too juvenile, one that I could beat quickly, it might spark my interest in getting back into them. Honestly, I've been mostly playing Madden and Guitar Hero out of the games I currently own. But that isn't because I don't like the other games I have, I just always seem to migrate back to those games, if that makes any sense.

Re: PS3 Games Must Have (That Are Not New)

I am going to date myself a LOT, but after getting the PS3 for Christmas, and being excited by the graphics, I still can't get into the main game I got for myself. FF13. The last serious gaming that I did was the whole Ultima series in the late 80's. I loved the interaction, the design and the quest aspect of it. So far, none of the PS3 games have the same type quest and dialogue that I was looking for. Is Dragon age like that, maybe I haven't gone far enough in FF13, but after a few times of basically having no options, and just killing what's put in front of me, I really haven't continued it.

Appreciate any thoughts.

Most people have not, the majority of the US population started on FF7 with Cloud and friends. Plus every FF is a story within itself there is little to no connection between the chapters.

Disclose what? That he works there or trading your games there being a complete rip-off? Sell your games on craigslist/ebay/amazon instead.

I wouldn't advise trading your games into Gamestop either. Sell them online where you can actually get some decent value for them.

Selling games directly is not nearly as simple as putting a listing online and waiting for the offers to pour in. Personally I have a lot of games where Gamestop is the only feasible buyer (particularly with PS2 games). Basically if you have the time and creativity then it's preferable to sell your games directly online but if you're on the go, have average games, or are selling at prices that are similar to Gamestop, then it's more of a hassle. Bottom line Gamestop is always an instant buyer for virtually every up to date game you own.

For example if I wanted to sell my copy of FIFA 11 for PS3 I would not only have to take into account that people have to shelve out an extra $10 for the online pass but as of this moment I have to compete with 152 other listings for a buyer and most of the people that want this game are going to local shops to buy it new or to buy used copies so they don't have to wait for shipping, also in some cases the shipping cost will result in me lowering it to a price that is maybe at most $5 more then what Gamestop will give me.

Again given the option it's almost always better to sell directly but keep in mind unless your selling games in demand games that are 2 or 3 months old at $20 below retail you might end up waiting a while (usually months at a time). Not to mention the fact that theres a long list of ways to get in trouble if you sell bad merchandise as well as the fact that E-Bay takes a cut of your earnings while Craigslist comes with the risk of making you another fraud victim.

Don't get me wrong Gamestop isn't all lovey dovey but they are quick and easy compared to the do it yourself approach. I think most of the flak that Gamestop catches is the fact that people trade in their used games for $10 or $15 and then see them go on sale for $30 or $40, while forgetting the big picture where Gamestop trades for millions of used games, many of which never get sold and a portion of which they can't sell due to the fact that they're damaged in a way that couldn't be detected during the trade in. Heck sometimes they'll take damaged games in hope that the credit they'll give you will serve as an incentive to get you to buy something.

Dragon Age is not an MMO. It's played off-line but there is a good amount of DLC. It's a lot like Oblivion which would be a good one to pick up used.

If you're too busy than I will admit Gamestop is an easier option, but for me I prefer trading elsewhere because I have the time to wait, I can get more money, or in some cases I can trade games I don't want anymore for another game directly from another person. But Gamestop doesn't offer nearly enough value imo, and the reason for that is since so many people trade in one game, it keeps driving the value down. If I took my copy of Madden 10 to Gamestop, they'd give me what, $.75 cents for it? Because so many people have already traded it in. Whereas I can go online and sell it for 10 bucks, because it's barely used, in great condition (I never leave games out, if it's not being played its in the case), and the 10 bucks some guy will pay is still cheaper than whatever it costs at Gamestop or other retailers.

I'm not necessarily wanting to trade or sell my games. I seem to get the best deals purchasing used games from half.com or Amazon.

Madden 10's value is so low due to the fact that Madden 11 is out. That's how sports games are.

This and I have been saying it for years on here. Fawk Gamestop they are a fawking rip off.

IF you sell a game on half or ebay you get so much more and it is easy you can even buy the postage on line. Heck trade it in to Amazon you will still get more.

[ame]http://www.amazon.com/Trade-In/b/ref=amb_link_83819451_1?ie=UTF8&node=2242532011&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=top-1&pf_rd_r=0ZEVNPX463AH6QS4HFD2&pf_rd_t=301&pf_rd_p=1277206002&pf_rd_i=trade%20in[/ame]

(For some reason it won't allow me to link to the trade in store, just search "trade in" on the Amazon web site)

Here is how I do it and rarely spend much on a game and sometimes even make money on a game.

Set up a paypal account with XXX dollars. Buy a game used off ebay that has been relesed for a few weeks usually a popular game after a week or two can be bought used for like $45. Play it until you are done and re-sale it. If you resale it in a 6 month window generally that game will sell for $35 - $40. Games take their first big hit in residual value in the first month. Sports games decline in value fastest and multiplayer games hold their value the longest. So you just simply buy and sell through your orginally paypal $$$ you may have to throw in a extra few bucks here and there but you will still be doing better then buying a $60 game let it sit after you play it or trading it in to Gamestop. I have actually gotton great deals at times and sold the game back at a higher price, I GOT PAID TO PLAY THAT GAME!

Really take a look at amazon they have the best deals going espically on new realeases, also the trade in store is a great deal as well. I have kind of turned to that vs. ebay/half.com. Yes their trade in value maybe less then say selling on your own but after you factor in postage and fees on the ebay/half sale you are pretty darn close and it is a much easier process. Amazon even gives you a pre-paid shipping label to send the games in.

It's like trading in a car vs. selling it on your own. Of course you can usually do better on your own selling a game, but a lot of the time I prefer the no-hassle deal of selling it back to GS.

Yeah the problem is the price is so ridiculous low that they give you it is almost an insult. I personally rather play Frisbee with the game disc then trade it to them.

I think I am going to get Grand Theft Auto IV and I am going to try to go back to playing Bad Company. I bought that game shortly after it came out, played it once, got into a position where I was getting shot from all sides and couldn't aim my gun down to shoot. Got frustrated and haven't played it since then. I am just so much better at those games using a keyboard and mouse, but I do love the shooting games.

Really, the current games I have I love and don't want to get rid of, I just always seem to want to play Madden or Guitar Hero more than the other games.
