This isn't the last of his problems. I believe he will only keep going down hill, to a point where the coaching staff will have to replace him. But it is only the second game and tonight the ol can not be blamed for his piss poor production.

he had time to throw ... ??? do they stop football games because of rain ??? .... JC needs to have somewhat of a solid game next week or it's a bad vibe in my mind

Hey, it's a better headline than "Campbell has completely unremarkable seven passes" or "Charlie Batch beats DeAngelo Hall once".

Yeah struggles is not the word that came to my mind.

I ain't gettin my panties in a wad like Mike Florio but Campbell should've shown us more. I think he's settled into that no risk taking mindset, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but makes him wanna play safe more often than not. He needs to play with more urgency. He used to have a plausible excuse because the o-line was failing him but now that the o-line actually resembles something competent enough to give him time he needs to start playing more decisively. Also I think the playcalling needs to factor into this with more risk and reward type plays because tossing a ball 1 yard to Kelly when it's 3rd and 10 ain't cutting it. If it's 3rd and 10 I feel like most routes should be at least going 10 yards or 8 at the minimum, I don't know why I saw Malcolm Kelly running a 1 yard route on that 3rd and 10.

Again it's just preseason and I know the dink and dunk offense can be successfull but not if it's dink and dunk to the point where we can't even get the necessary yards to get a first down. I know they did a good job driving down the field after the fake punt but after that drive (which stalled at the goal line) they weren't doing anything on offense until Daniels came in in the third quarter.

I really think if those screens go for even average yardage we all feel different. Those looked awul...was it play conception or poor execution?

But yeah, this is where the "preseason doesn't matter" myth comes from. When you conclude in small sample size that one player struggled or another did great, you're going to be wrong more than right. Preseason doesn't matter only because what we TAKE from the preseason is completely irrelivant.
I really think if those screens go for even average yardage we all feel different. Those looked awul...was it play conception or poor execution?
Steelers just sniffed them both out.

They're a number one type defense, so they likely won't be fooled by that kind of play. That's partially on Zorn, but mostly it's just good defense.

It's the kind of thing where if the defense follows the flow and doesn't go after the passer, there's no in play adjustment that can be made. You just abort and try again. If it's third down, you punt.

he didnt throw a pick... and took a few shots and made a few good throws, and there was pressure... and weather.... i think he did ok.... not worried that much, deep ball accuracy, only concern

Re: "Jason Campbell struggles against the Steelers"

I don't know. I watched the game and didn't think Campbell was so bad. Some of his throws were deep, which had a positive effect even though they didn't hit them. He missed a few short ones--need to fix that. But as people have said, accuracy hasn't been his problem, it's reads. So I'm not worried that he's suddenly lost his accuracy.

Still, the only way JC gets love is if he wins games. Full stop. No point in trying to over-analyze, especially at this point.

On the plus side, the line looked very good, both on pass pro and run blocking, pretty much all night. Given that was the biggest worry going in, ya gotta feel a bit better about things.

Re: "Jason Campbell struggles against the Steelers"

I think if you read the article what Florio is trying to say is Campbell's season went downhill starting with his poor performance against the Steelers last November. And tonight he really wasn't that great again. But he also points out that Zorn was relatively happy with Campbell's decision making tonight and that it's way too early to talk about benching Campbell, but that he needs to play better if he wants to own that starting role through the regular season.

I liked the deep pass play calls. They created a vertical aspect for the offense even though they were incomplete. We've been so conservative for so long, I think it is good to do things to keep safeties from cheating towards the line of scrimmage.

Yep. And I think we'll get better at it as we go along. It's not like we've done it in a lot of games. I was happy to see the effort. It surprised me. It helps make the "D" play back a little and helps to open things up underneath.
