What kind of production does Doctson need in 2019 to stay on them team ?
He hasn't been that good.....

Color him gone. He won't even be a starter for long, if at all. |
Re: What kind of production does Doctson need in 2019 to stay with on them team ?
I hope he balls out becomes the player we all hoped he would.
|
Re: What kind of production does Doctson need in 2019 to stay with on them team ?
None.
If he does jack squat, he gone. If he balls out, he's gone but some other team will pay him beaucoup dollars and we might get a good comp pick if we play our cards right. If he has average stats he's still gone because he's a bitch and he doesn't have that mindset dominant wideouts have to have. I'm putting shit odds on the "balls out" because every indication I've seen is that he's happy with where he's at in his career this offseason, which is the exact opposite mindset he needs to have. |
Re: What kind of production does Doctson need in 2019 to stay with on them team ?
50+ catches, 5+ tds, 800+ yds
|
Re: What kind of production does Doctson need in 2019 to stay with on them team ?
Even if Doctson somehow makes the pro bowl or is named an all pro the Redskins are going to move on from him in 2020....even if he puts up commendable numbers it would be too little too late at this point.

then he signs with another team and they get a 3rd or 4th round pick |
Re: What kind of production does Doctson need in 2019 to stay with on them team ?
I would need 110 catches 1500 yards and 15 TDs to consider resigning him
|
Re: What kind of production does Doctson need in 2019 to stay with on them team ?
Even if he has an all world year this coming season, I do not trust him to stay at that level. It does seem like he ever wanted to be here. He has another plan.

Really, what is the plan? to stink for 3 years and lose $$$$ in a 5th-year option |
Re: What kind of production does Doctson need in 2019 to stay with on them team ?
I hope the other receivers perform well enough to severely limit his snaps, I gave up hope on him.

That makes no sense, if he finally breaks out he'll earn a nice 2nd contract so why wouldn't it happen here? |
Re: What kind of production does Doctson need in 2019 to stay with on them team ?
I just hope he can catch 50 passes and around 6 tds. He's not a WR1

Let’s start with the little things like separation and catching footballs, than we can go from there... |
Re: What kind of production does Doctson need in 2019 to stay with on them team ?
While we clearly don’t have a no1 wr, the best thing for Doctson would be to carve a roll out with squad and more importantly, playing consistent. There is value if he can do both.
My preference is someone beats him out as starter opposite P Rich |

To not be a Redskin. He got his rookie contract money and did not do anything to earn it. 5th year options benefits the team that has a great 5th year player, not the other way around. Now this little bitch can play for a big contract next year. He will he free. See how it benefits him? |

So paying Doctson $10 million in the 5th year would benefit the Redskins???? https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/washington-redskins/josh-doctson-18970/ |

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/washington-redskins/josh-doctson-18970/
No, that's why they didn't exercise it. BUT when a team does choose to use it, it generally is to their benefit, ie Scherff. IF Dotson had become a receiver worthy of the 1st round pick, and he hit the market, his value likely would have been 13-17 million per year. |

Maybe the Redskins get a slight benefit in his 5th-year option....all contracts are subject to the change in the market. However, Scherff is the 3rd highest paid guard in 2019. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/rankings/cap-hit/guard/ |

My guess is he would have been the top FA Oline OR we would have franchised him. Either one would have been less team favorable. The 5th year option on star players benefits the team immensely, while giving the player literally nothing in return. |

Doctson = Shawn Bradley, Gruden= Vince Carter
As a Sixer fan this makes me ill. Bruce Bowen went undrafted that year! Makes you wonder how many great ones never even get the chance because of the Shawn Bradleys in the world. Anywho..... |

How does one great year and three below average years earn him a second contract ?...you have to look at his entire body of work. |

Progression. See: McCardell, Keenan. He didn't have more than 13 catches in a season until his 5th year but he finished his career with nearly 900 receptions. |

He's definitely a bust. Maybe he sticks around the league for a decade like former 1st rd pick DHB, but he's not a #1. In the past 5 seasons, Heyward-Bey has had double digit receptions once. I guess he brings the heat on special teams? #hellinashell |

Because that's the way the NFL works. If he busts out this year he's going to get paid. |

True but not by us. Personally, I can't stand him as a player because he's s-o-o-o soft. |

Totally hypothetical... he goes off for 90 catches, 1200 yards and 10 TD’s. He basically becomes a baller. Why the hell wouldn’t we try to re-sign him? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Totally hypothetically we would. But this ain't hypothetical. I'm not sure of much but I am damn sure Doctson doesn't deserve more than a super team friendly contract because he isn't worth a shit. If I had to guess the most predictable pattern for this year it's this: He starts decent, and for some reason his playing times slowly decreases week by week until we all wonder why Gruden put him in the doghouse. Then P.Rich gets hurt and we're forced to give him more PT. At the end of the year they make a "we're obligated to offer you this" league min. offer which he politely declines and goes to FA. |
