The 2019 College Football Thread

Thought this article would be a good starting point to kick off the CFB thread:

http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaafb/hard-to-beat-the-cheaters-harbaugh-michigan-at-college-football-crossroads/ar-AAGkLK5?ocid=ientp

It's an excerpt from a new book about Jim Harbaugh and Michigan and how their unwillingness to pay players on the side puts them at a disadvantage when recruiting.

As a Tech fan it made me curious if they would do some shit like this too, I feel like Frank Beamer would never have done anything like this but who knows now. Hard to compete when the system is stacked against you.

There's some good bits in that article about Jeff George and how entitled he was, but I thought this bit about ways CFB programs skirt the rules was interesting:
Mauti and I shared the stories we'd heard about coaches channeling money through churches, a practice that few Southern politicians or reporters would dare investigate; offering jobs to the parents in the city or county, not the school; giving recruits credit cards in someone else's name, or cases of casino chips to cash in; and two relatively new tricks, having a booster buy the family's home for far more than market value, and telling players to take their beat-up junkers into a Mercedes dealership, where they receive a high-end "loaner car" while they wait for a replacement part -- which could take years, it turns out.
Anyways, this bit is a very good read and highly recommended. I'm probably gonna pick the book up once it ends up at my local library too.

Maryland looks great this year.

It would make my year if army can beat Michigan

Between FSU and the Skins, this football season is just off to a terrible fucking start.

Im sold...hire this guy as the next head coach

https://sports.yahoo.com/former-alabama-rb-josh-jacobs-says-nick-saban-really-likes-telling-deez-kind-of-jokes-143743083.html

"Nick Saban really likes telling 'deez' kind of jokes, according to ex-Alabama RB Josh Jacobs"

Yes, one of the greatest college football coaches of all time can have sense of humor that resembles a middle schooler’s.

“So one day I caught like five passes in a row,” Jacobs told Patrick after he revealed the kind of jokes that Saban likes to tell. “He was like ‘Hey Josh, if you wanna hold all the ball, hold these.’ I said ‘What coach?’ I sat there for a second, like, did he really just say that?”

Patrick was flabbergasted.

“Yeah, I was like coach, I hadn’t heard that since middle school,” Jacobs said.

So after 3 weeks, anyone got a team other than Clemson and Bama in the title game once again? Who's your other 2 getting in at this point?

College football has gotten pretty stale...Oklahoma, LSU are my four.

Im pulling for LSU tho...im dating a girl with New Orleans roots and has me pulling for them

Would you hire Dabo for the Skins? I would, but he needs to bring his coaches.

As a FSU fan, I'd want the Skins to hire him, just to get him away from Clemson.

Oh hell yeah I'd hire him yesterday! He single handedly restored that program from pretty much the ground up. I think he's got the Joe Gibbs "it" factor, just much more enthusiastic. I don't see him going pro, the better possibility is Alabama throwing the bank at him whenever Saban leaves, especially since he's an alumni.

I am the biggest LSU fan on the planet which is funny since my undergrad is from UF, but they have the talent to make the playoff but this 8 year losing streak to Bama is getting on my last nerves

UCLA uses huge second half to stun Washington State, 67-63

I realize the rules favor the defenses these days but some of the scores I see in college and high school football are insane. The local high school scores always have multiple teams hitting 50+ points every Friday night. What is it these days are the best athletes all wanting to play offense?

It's getting hard to tell the difference between college football and basketball these days with the final scores. I agree with you, also I think the NCAA wants the rules to favor offense because people like seeing td's and big plays.

I meant the rules favor the offense. I must have typed that before my coffee kicked in.

Everyone needs to watch The Bowden Dynasty. What a damn amazing leader of men. Love FSU or hate FSU, it's a must watch.

Bowden and Gibbs have a lot in common.

So all of a sudden Clemson looking vulnerable? Meanwhile Oklahoma with Hurt looks incredible...so many big plays from that offense, from the guy that "couldn't pass" when he was in Alabama. Crazy. If Lincoln Riley doesn't compete and/or win the National Championship, or even if he does really, anyone thinks he comes to the NFL? I think if he wins it, he stays in college...while if he doesn't even make it to the game again, maybe he considers the NFL.

So Chase Young is the pick if he is there?
