A lot of caveats in this deal from what I understand.

Yeah if he plays a lot of snaps this year because Smith gets hurt, then all these escalators kick in based on the quality of that performance, with voids at certain thresholds and the Skins can opt to buy back in at a high cost.

But if he doesn't get snaps then his salary stays lower. Still better than it would have been though.

Pretty impressive and creative structure by Shaffer.

I think we can also conclude they're not really thrilled with Hogan so far.

This was my first thought

The Browns did not want Hogan. No more needs to be said.

I would also say good for Colt.

So, when do they draft the QB of the future? I hope they can develop one, not expect a rookie starter.

I'd assume the 2020 or 2021 draft to sit behind Alex for a year or 2.

Probably the 2022 draft when Alex is in the last year of his current contract. However, if Alex stays healthy and plays well, he could be our version of Brees / Brady, so possibly 2024 if Alex makes it here until 39/40 years old. I think Alex is our true blue franchise QB at this point, i think he's going to be here a while.

They need to draft a QB early in the next two drafts. Colt can be an adequate #2 for 2 more years.

Colt is only 31, younger than Smith is now. Why would he suddenly not be adequate at 33 years old? I mean not counting an injury or him just up and deciding to retire? I think you'd have to worry more about Colt wanting to try his hand at becoming an NFL starter again after his current deal expires with us.

from what ive heard....Hogan is not making the team. He's been dreadful.

QB is a "must draft" this upcoming offseason.

You answered your own question, Colt is signed for 2 more years and probably wants another chance to start. And if Mike Glennon can get $$$$$ Colt probably can too.
