Re: Soupermeister's Breakout Player of 2008 Poll
I think he'll make the roster if only for his special teams play.
Agreed. Solid special teamers are priceless, and few and far between. We seem to always have a few that stands out, and Mix is one of them. I wish bigger and better things for him but if anything, I want to feel secure when a Devin Hester gets the ball, and I do. |
Rocky Mac has degenerative knees. He has 2 years left max, if he fully recovers this time. This is the second tear in both knees from what I've read. It's sad, he's still a baby too. So sad.
That has NOT been confirmed. It was spectulation by the WaPo saying he has a "potential" condition. Only the anterior cruciate ligament was torn, reducing McIntosh's recovery time substantially. The team now expects him to be ready for training camp.
|
Re: Soupermeister's Breakout Player of 2008 Poll
So Soup mentioned in another thread that if Mix can be a legit #3 WR than why draft a WR in round 1 (as has been rumored) when DE is, in his opinion, a much more glaring need.
Which got me thinking waht if Chris Wilson can emerge at DE? (I'll leave my main man Alex Buzbee out of this conversation) So the question is-Who is More Likely To Have A Breakout Season in 2008? Anthony Mix or Chris Wilson? Define "Breakout"? Who knows, that's what makes polls fun :) Vote and Quarrel
I've given this some thought, and I still feel that Mix can be adequate in the slot, and that we should use the first pick to select a two way DE that can be a force against the run as well as the pass. As for the question of breakout players, Chris Wilson could well be our breakout guy as a situational pass rusher - I would not be a bit surprised if he came away with 5-7 sacks in that role. The sense that I'm getting is that Blache wants us to use our 1st rounder on the best D-lineman on the board (even if it's a DT). I say do that and go for WR in the 2nd round to push Mix for a job in the WR rotation. There are usually very good WRs to be had in round 2, and competition will only make us stronger at our #3 WR position. As for what would constitute a breakout, I would say 5+ TDs from Mix as a legit red-zone threat and 5+ sacks from Wilson as a 3rd down specialist. |
Wilson had four sacks last year so he's right on the verge by your definition. Clemens had 8 sacks for Oakland last year and signed with Philly as a FA, so perhaps Wilson will exceed my 5-7 sack target.
For Mix to be an impact in the red zone, he would probably have to get some of the opportunities that would otherwise go to Cooley. This could happen if Cooley draws coverage, but Mix must gain the trust of Campbell. There are probably more factors that must come into play for Mix to have an impact, but I love his size, and he showed very good speed / athletic ability for a big man on special teams. |
Re: Soupermeister's Breakout Player of 2008 Poll
Wilson 'broke out' last year. I voted for Mix since rookie WRs take a bit to make the transition to the pros.

Re: Soupermeister's Breakout Player of 2008 Poll
wow, i seriously got negative feedback for saying i don't think either one is going to have a breakout season?
who the f#$% is the kool aid nazi and why can't i voice an honest (and probably the most likely/realistic) opinion? good job, douche. |

If you were able to tell us who did that, we could call him out on the forums, or respond with negative feedback for him. Because while the rep points aren't the most important thing in the world, having a douche-free forum is. |
Re: Soupermeister's Breakout Player of 2008 Poll
Yeah, I'm with Schneed on this one. Rep points are probably a good tool as long as people are held accountable for negative grades. If they are anonymous, it just becomes "well, I don't agree with you, here's negative rep."
