Official 2022 NFL Draft Thread
It's not too soon anymore. This coming Monday, it's officially draft season.
Non-QB and Non-Kyle Hamilton, who would you love to see us be able to land at No. 11? Charles Cross would have been my answer until we re-signed Leno. I'd go with Ahmad Gardner now. Would anyone be interested in doing a draft party somewhere around the DC area on Saturday, April 29th? That day would be the 2nd and 3rd rounds. |
Re: Official 2022 NFL Draft Thread
I'd like to comment on QB's in this draft. I'll make a comparison of each QB to an NFL QB, not in terms of how good they can become but in terms of their styles. There are two QB's who I think can become quality NFL starters soon and one who could become a Pro Bowler in due time. This is how I rank them.
1(a). Kenny Pickett. He is a polished QB prospect with NFL size and athleticism. He makes all the throws with very good accuracy and velocity. He can evade the rush and is a dangerous runner but he keeps his eyes downfield when he is chased out of the pocket and often finds a receiver on the run. He is NFL starter material. NFL comparison: Josh Allen 1(b). Matt Corral. Matt is also a polished QB prospect. He throws a beautiful deep ball, is poised in the pocket but when he takes off running watch out! He's the other NFL starter. NFL Comparison: Russell Wilson. 3. Malik Willis. Malik is a superb athlete who has a rocket arm and great foot speed. He would probably be the best athlete on the field most Sundays right now but he has a long way to go to become a complete QB. I ranked him below Pickett and Corral for now, yet I feel that any team that is willing to wait for him to develop could have a potential Pro Bowl player. NFL comparison: Michael Vick. 4. Sam Howell. Sam knows how to play the position. He has a strong arm and he can run, too. He can light it up when he has a decent supporting cast. He is NFL sturdy and he has the tools to possibly become a starter in due time. NFL comparison: Baker Mayfield. 5. Desmond Ridder. Desmond is a smooth operator at QB. He has NFL size with long arms and big hands. He could be held back by accuracy issues but he is a proven winner. NFL comparison: Matt Ryan. |

I figure there's no way Dean gets to the 2nd rd. But it's nice to dream. |

What’s kinda crazy is 2 highly touted mlb-type prospects at 11…Dean and the Utah kid, Lloyd. I don’t see a MLB on our roster 🤷*♂️ |
Re: Official 2022 NFL Draft Thread
I have watched Sevyn Banks for a couple of years now. We should not want him. Very, very, very inconsistent.

11: R1 P11 OT Ikem Ekwonu - NC State (this stud can replace Scherff at RG and/or push for a starting T spot, this man is a HOG!)
42: R2 P10 S Lewis Cine - Georgia 73: R3 P9 QB Bailey Zappe - Western Kentucky 112: R4 P8 LB Brandon Smith - Penn State 188: R6 P10 G Lecitus Smith - Virginia Tech 228: R7 P9 RB CJ Verdell - Oregon Did this one with waiting until the 3rd round to draft a QB. I'd be pretty happy with this draft if it worked out this way (On actual draft day, I think we need to go QB in the 1st or 2nd round). |

Re: Official 2022 NFL Draft Thread
Other than Wilson,Rogers,Carr .. is there any Free agent QBs out there better than this draft class ? If not my first pick is Willis .. if we can get a FA QB then I go BPA at 11 or trade down for more Picks .. my gut says we are gonna pass on a QB in the draft with the first pick ..

Winston and Mitch T are the only noticeable guys |
Re: Official 2022 NFL Draft Thread
Hard to see Willis being there at 11
|
Re: Official 2022 NFL Draft Thread
I'm not sure I'd bother with Trubisky. TH showed way more leadership etc. than Trubisky's shown in his career. If Winston is the best option available to us pre-draft I'd take him and draft a QB, either @ 11 if it's clear any FA is a bridge, else see what's there in round 2 or 3. I'd take Willis or Pickett at 11 (some mocks have them going to the Panthers and Broncos), but I'm not sure about Corral. If Wilson, Jimmy G or Winston were on board I'd lean towards BPA @11 and go QB later.

Re: Official 2022 NFL Draft Thread
After this franchise's experience with GR3 and Haskins, we should know enough to shy away from college QB's who shy away from film review and the mental side of game prep because they think they can rely upon their powerful arms. I would hope that we know by now that that type of QB is a disaster waiting to happen in the NFL.

So I listened to Sheehan pod and he gushed about Willis. He fills the need of an athletic QB I just don’t like that pick for us |

I just don’t like that pick for us
I agree. A much more stable organization can develop him, but this place is just asking to fuck him up. :( |
Re: Official 2022 NFL Draft Thread
Unfortunately, an "athletic quarterback" who is not committed to understanding and learning the mental side of the NFL is frequently referred to as a "bust".

Yup…so multiple sources say Pittsburgh is interested, they have a stable org that would be perfect for him. I would love to trade back with Pitt if Willis is there for their first round pick next year. Dream scenario. |

All the mocks i see have him being there at 11. CBS has us taking him at 11. Alot of others he goes after. Pickett, and Corall still getting all the love. Id take Willis in a heart beat. |

Its weird waking up at the same time as you SD
11. Charles Cross OT Mississippi State WAS 42. Malik Willis QB Liberty WAS 73. Brandon Smith LB Penn State WAS 112. Marquis Hayes OG Oklahoma WAS 188. Nick Cross S Maryland WAS 228. Dylan Parham OG Memphis |

Yeah it's still weird being on EST. Ruins my standard political posting plan. Drink while you all fall asleep, then drop all amazing thoughts for y'all to wake up to. That draft would be anazing! |

I think that was at 42, not so bad but still very unlikely |

Yes 42
As of today im finally seeing mocks where Willis is going top 10. |
Re: Official 2022 NFL Draft Thread
Willis at 73? Someone needs to seriously re-calibrate their draft software
It's probably based on it's player rankings from December and doesn't take into account the QB premium. |
I think that was at 42, not so bad but still very unlikely
Oof Chico Takes the L But agree, Willis will be the 1/2 taken off the board. |
Re: Official 2022 NFL Draft Thread
Yes so many teams desperate for a QB, going to end up like 2011. yuk
|
Re: Official 2022 NFL Draft Thread
There will
Absolutely be a quarterback at 11. Im hoping its Willis. If not than Strong in the second and maybe we grab a LB, S, or OL in the first. |
Re: Official 2022 NFL Draft Thread
I am not a fan of picking Willis, probably because of the RGII and Haskins picks, i.e. Athletes with raw QB skills. Willis needs developing, I don't think he will receive enough time or patience here, he needs to go somewhere where there is a decent starter for him to backup, learn from and then replace in 2-3 years
|
Re: Official 2022 NFL Draft Thread
I should probably clarify that I don't much like any of our options this year, so trade down for an extra 1 next year
