Offseason: Around the NFL

Figured we should have an around the NFL offseason thread.

And that seemed like a good reason to start it:

NFL likely to expend Playoffs from 12 to 14 teams

I personally like it, doesn't make playoffs any longer, and still creates 2 more wild card games.

What do you guys think ?

I hate adding more teams. Baseball is talking about doing it too. More money for owners is all it is.

Would we rather have more regular season games or more playoff games? The answer is pretty easy for me.

I would hate adding one round to the playoffs, but adding wild card games doesn't change the structure of the playoffs so I like it.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well apparently we are getting an extra regular season game and an extra playoff team.

Not a fan of the seventh playoff team. It means the first weekend you could have 4ea 8win 9loss teams(or worse) playing.
2 seed vs 7th (7th seed likely is no better than 8 and 9)
And 4th seed(worst division winner potential 8 and 9 record or worse 7 and 10) vs the best wild card team, likely an 11 or 12 win team.

Maybe they can change the seeding to minimize it but with the 17game season there will be lots of mediocre football during wildcard weekend.

8 game regular season for seeding purposes. Every team makes the playoffs. Then have an NCAA tournament structure for the championship.

You get a playoff spot and you get a playoff spot and you get a playoff spot!!

I like them subtracting one preseason game and adding a regular game. The last PS game was such a non-event as none of the starters played. It was the battle of players about to be cut, playing each other.

Three PS games is enough.

Baltimore Ravens starting OL Bradley Bozeman ate 4.5 POUNDS of steak -- PLUS FIXINGS -- at dinner Wednesday night ... and the dude hardly broke a sweat!!!

The epic meal went down in Amarillo, Texas at "The Big Texan Steak Ranch" ... where Lamar Jackson's personal protector decided to take on the restaurant's famous food challenge.

Here's the deal ... ya gotta kill a 72-ounce steak, a shrimp cocktail, a baked potato, a salad and a roll with butter in under 1 hour -- and winners get a FREE T-SHIRT (plus, the meal is free and you get your name on the wall).

Bozeman -- a 6'5", 317-pound NFL stud -- happily accepted the challenge ... and you can see in video of him chowing down, he CRUSHED it!!!

The 25-year-old finished every last bite, with more than 10 minutes to spare ... and afterward, he didn't look any worse for wear at all!!

The extra regular season game is going to be a tough sell without a significant concession by the league. Maybe getting rid of testing for weed will turn the tables.

Not a fan of adding more teams. But the way this is being structured might not be too bad. It would mean only 1 top seed per conference would get the bye on Wild Card Weekend. That could make for good games down the stretch of the regular season as the value of the top seed is increased.

Just as long as it never gets to the point like the NBA where half of the league makes the playoffs. Hate seeing the sub 500 teams in the post season.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The article i read said the main swaying point is that with a 17game season the players percentage if revenue goes up to 48.5 percent. Even without it though, the percentage is supposed to go to 48. I imagine that that is a whole lot more money flowing into the salary cap allocation.

Re: Offseason: Around the NFL

I went back to look at the past 4 years to see the consequence of adding the team and was surprised to see only 1 team that was 8-8 would have made it in, the 2019 Steelers. So I withdraw my previous posts. The most likely way for a subpar team to get in remains a very bad division.
