Logan Mankins got the franchise tag by the Patriots (10 million I believe)

David Harris expected to be tagged by the Jets

Woodley by the Steelers (unfortunately)

I think Greenway will possibly get tagged by the Vikings, while Rice gets a transition tag
I'm actually happy about these. I am hoping for a quiet year of free agency. It may be quiet simply due to lack of CBA, but even if a deal was magically agreed upon months in advance of the season, I still want just a few under the radar signings. All of these guys are obviously big names.

I wonder what Allen is thinking, what strategy he's taking, and what he's telling the danny.
Carlos is worth a consideration. I wouldnt at this point, would like a long term deal with him. Lotta teams are putting them on cause of the uncertainty of a lack of a CBA. Once that is done, the tag will be removed and long term contracts will be signed with some of these guys.
If we can keep him another year at a reasonable price, go for it. Better than paying him what he THINKS he's worth.
what does a transition tag mean??
If I remember right a player gets the average salary of the top 10 players at his position (rather then the top 5 you see with the franchise tag) and the cost of not matching an offer is a pair of second round picks.

Ok my understanding of Poison pill contracts is pretty much based on the corporate world, so I went to wikkipedia and read up on the poison pill contract idea in the Sports World and if I read it correctly these contracts are used to make sure that one player can not sign with other specific teams in a contract matching situation (e.g. if we were trying to sign Peyton Manning and the Colts had to match the contract we could put a clause in the contract stating that if Peyton Manning plays X number of games in any given year in the state of Indiana then the whole contract becomes guaranteed), that is what I got from it at least. So thats not going to help us out at all.....just plain Poison however may be useful!

the past thinking is why pay our own? when we could go out get much worse players and then set the max threshold for the top 5 players in the market

Not too surprised about Barber, he's a tough dude but has some wear & tear. Only reason it seems they would trade Choice is due to him wanting a deal they won't give him.
Is it me or do we never tag any of our players ?
Franchise tag tenders wreck havoc on salary cap management. When you manage your cap like the Redskins do, you don't leave $15 million dollars lying around in free cap money to franchise a contributor for one season. Too much money to one player, particularly when you're rolling over $10-$15 million in dead cap every single season.
