Fed up...need advice!

OK guys, as some of you know, I live in what I consider hell. This town is extremely small, (about 26k population), to find a city that is comparable or larger you have to drive 2.5 hours southwest (El Paso), 1.25 hrs north (Roswell), 1 hr east (Hobbs). Literally, there is nothing else around here. I have lived here for 10 years, and I hate it. It's hot all the time, and it only rains about 15-20 days a year at max. I know it may sound nice to have it sunny and hot all the time, but you get sick of it...trust me. I know it's going to be 105 with 10% humidity and not a cloud in the sky tomorrow. I miss the 4 seasons.
Anywho, we are REALLY wanting to move to Denver...I need all the advise I can get. Any suggestions for relocating to a place that is 9 hours away?

It's cold in Denver, oh and they have a nice and clean airport. My advice is to wish you good luck :)

Don't you just start a new job (twice). You going to leave that job to up and move to Denver or are you going to get transfered?

My advice is don't rely on moving companies. Rent a U-Haul. Grab a couple of friends and move yourself

Yes, and I realize that there aren't many jobs here I can really sink my teeth into. What's the point of working a deadend job the rest of your life. I need something with a future. I've tried the "let's make the best of the situation" thing, but it has gotten me nowhere. While I am on my 3rd job in about 3 months, I had 3 jobs in maybe 8 years. I'm just tired of not being where I want to be, and I need to do something about it instead of whine about how much I hate it.

I am doing that without a doubt.
Although the advice I need is how to make the smooth transition and how to manage to find a job when I live 9 hours away and most companies shy away from a long distance transplant.

I just moved from Florida to Northern Colorado (2,000 miles). I rented a 12' U-Haul trailer for $640 (insurance and tax included), and drove here in about 3 days. With gas included, it cost me under $1,000. Any other way would have cost anywhere from $1,500 to $3,000.

Do you have any job leads? You seem to have pretty good qualifications. I did a long distance transplant when I joined my latest job

How did you find your job there? Especially since you were in Florida?

No leads.
I have a masters in finance, and my wife has a BA in Human Resources and has been an HR Director for 10 years. (with the same company)

How did you get that long distance job?

Applied online. Got a call, went through 10 interviews

I was lucky enough to keep my job, and work from home. However, like SS said, you can find employers online and you can apply. Some of them will even pay for you to move.

We've tried the whole Monster.com thing and never get call backs. A lot won't call back because they are only looking for local candidates. This is the problem we are having.
If we could get the interviews, we'd be sitting pretty.

Oh...ok. We just can't afford to take off 2 days at a time to do interviews all the time. 9 hour drive 1 way is a long time.

No, the advise I am seeking is how to make the move to Denver work...we have obviously had no success on our own, and I am looking to my friends here on the Warpath site to give me whatever advise / success tips they can give.

Ah, Ok.

Jsarno,
My company (big IT company) is hiring people in the marketing, sales, business analysis, and finance. These positions aren't within my group but I would be more than happy to forward you the positions we have available and forward your resume to the right people. I can't guarantee anything but it couldn't hurt. This is in a suburb of Seattle so I guess you got to be willing to relocate here. PM me if you're interested.

p.s. The best thing I have ever done in my career was to pay professional resume writer to clean up and reorganize my resume.

Of course you have to do what you feel is right, but I would be wary of a geographical solution. You may be happier in Denver or you may not.

While I immensely appreciate your efforts, if you catch the first post, my wife and I are wanting to move to Denver. I like Seattle, but my wife and I absolutely love Denver, and we will only move there.
Thank you anyway though.
