Re: All about Da'Ron Payne
Jesus for one quick second I saw “release” not “relentless “ and was like wtf? 🤪

Re: All about Da'Ron Payne
It wasn't the "sexy" pick at 13 but it's a good choice and as I said, given BAs draft history I will agree with his moves.
|
Re: All about Da'Ron Payne
Solid pick, no complaints. We've lacked a stud DT since Cornie Griffin, hope this helps. At the least he should really help the run defense, and best case scenario he turns into a pass-rushing nightmare too.

Hurst was the better choice IMO but his heart issue has scared teams, Payne is a good DT tho and with Allen again, should be a huge lift to our Run D.. Allen has to stay healthy |
Re: All about Da'Ron Payne
This was an awesome pick.
D-Ron has more versatility than Vea and can play inside and out along the D-line. He is a monster vs the run and has big play ability. The college playoff this past year he dominated first against top notch Oline Georgia and extremely strong Oline at Clemson. The guy is a weight room junkie and is only 20. His frame can still fill out. D-Ron and Allen along side one another is gonna be something else. This is what gets me going. Preston Smith and Ryan Kerrigan - no excuses not to flirt/acheive with double digits sacks from the outside. |
Re: All about Da'Ron Payne
No complaints. Great pick. Redskins have adults in the draft room, at least for last night.
I just feel w/ Payne and Allen, we need to go to the base 4-3. |

Re: All about Da'Ron Payne
If we can keep a rotation on the front of Allen Taylor Ionnaidis and Payne with McGee substituting then our DL should be able to handle our division opponemts (and any other teams) rushing attacks.
|
Re: All about Da'Ron Payne
Cooley said he would have taken Edmunds or James but he's also one of the main guys dogging our DL all the time

we gonna find out about preston smith...no more "almost" made the play |
Re: All about Da'Ron Payne
As I dig into more and more about Da'Ron Payne I'm realizing something very positive: he had two excellent games against Clemson and Georgia this year, two of the very best teams in college football. Happy to know that he lived up to his billing against the toughest competition.

Also most Bama Defensive players usually pan out in the NFL.. Saban does a great job getting that side of the ball pro ready. Again it wasn't the flashy James or Edmunds but it's a safe pick and u know from day 1 he will do his job. |

Yep, he has a good motor but he never gets fully to the QB.. |
Re: All about Da'Ron Payne
Allen, Anderson and Payne have chemistry having played together,
He will just slide right in. Tomsula will fix whatever weaknesses he has, he could be better than Allen from what i’ve Read. |

He just does nothing for me. Zero ziltch, nada. Doesn't get me excited at all. Just bores me to death. Plus it looks like he's playing out of position. He can't rush the passer at the NFL level. They need to move him to ILB. |

This is a big yr for him, they are expecting him to step up and make plays. |

Im sure they can find a seat for you next to Kiper with analysis like this. |

I agree, move him to ILB. Supposedly his been working on getting leaner, I leave it to being a rookie season and having better players ahead of him last year. We’ll see what he does this year before you take that viagra. |

Seriously, I can't remember seeing a 2nd rounder that was so lackluster. At least Sua made a few plays. I hope we see some serious improvement in year 2. |

Agree 100%. He did nothing. Once again, I'll remind everyone what his college coach, Saban, said about him. Saban said he believed that Anderson would need to play ILB in the pros. If he's losing weight, that may be what they'll do with him. Our 2nd round picks, in general, have not produced much value for many years. Let's hope the Skins can remedy that this time around. |

especially with the fact we had later draft picks playing and contributing. Hopefully he has a big offseason and comes ready to play. Until then, keeping popping Viagra and maybe some molly...maybe throw in some role playing. |
Re: All about Da'Ron Payne
LOL at this thread.
There's something about pairing your top talent with your top position coaches. Tomsula and Bill Callahan are certainly our best. I like the idea of giving them talent to work with. It becomes a force multiplier. |

If we play better in 4-3 instead of 3-4 as our base defense, changing is not that big a deal. The world will not come to an end and nobody needs to feel responsible that the 3-4 did not work as well. Let our personnel abilities and performance dictate the choice, not a person in an office that is throwing darts at a board. |

That would also be an opportunity to put Ryan Anderson in a position where he could have a better impact. |
Re: All about Da'Ron Payne
I love how there is still all this talk about switching to a 4-3 years after we "switched" to a 3-4. Fact is, they align both ways (and have for years), maybe it's 60/40 - 50/50 - 40/60 ratio of 4-3 vs 3-4 lineups...whatever...they don't sit in a 3-4 all game. The difference now is, they actually have a guy that is versatile to be in both packages.

This is not exactly accurate. They align in 3-4 and 4-2-5 (nickel) quite a lot, but never in 4-3, we never have 3 linebackers in the backfield (unless you count Harvey-Clemons as a LB, but he's a hybrid nickel player IMO). That makes quite a difference against the run. Now, you do have point saying Payne can be a nose in a 3-4. But I'd like to see what Ryan Anderson can do as a Sam or Will LB. |

when I watched those games, I remember thinking I wish we had a D lineman with a motor like that. God I hope he plays like that for us ! |
Re: All about Da'Ron Payne
One thing on the Alabama guys is they will set the tone in the defensive locker room. And that, I think, is a real good thing. Bring a little Nick Saban attitude to our locker room!

How about this? Not every high round pick pops their first year. It's doesn't mean they can't be a good player (look at our RT, Moses looked shitty year 1 and now he is a really good RT). Let players develop. Right now, we have Preston, Zack, Mason and RK as the starting four. I like Anderson and, while he may never be flashy, I will be happy if he eventually steps in and plays like a solid every down starter. It's great if rookies come in as plug and play, but that just not how it works for the vast majority of them. |
