Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach

Chose the most commonly mentioned names. Be advised the votes are public.

This is not about who you think will be the next HC, but who you want.

If you choose other, post who you want

Sumlin autocorrects to dumplings which makes him the best answer.

Shaw is my 1 choice after him I'd say Gruden or Roman

Perry Fewell, even though he is at a divisional rival.
Or Mike Zimmer. He knows his defense well.

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach

I'm going with David Shaw. Stanford, traditionally, runs a pro offense so I'm not worried about his transitioning to the pro game. Shaw is a young guy (41) and it's nice to think (if successful) that this franchise could have a coach for the next decade and a half at least.

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach

Like Fewell, like Briles. I think Bill O'brien can do wonders with RG3 as well, just think its time to bring the air raid to the NFL, it's the perfect system for Robert Griffin.

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach

I know the vote is about who you want rather than who you think, but I just can’t say Shaw if the likelihood of it actually happening is slim (going on comments in and out of this forum).

I therefore still lean towards Mike Zimmer.

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach

Sean McDermott is worth looking into. He's really done something special with that Panthers defense. Regardless, I'd like to see a defensive guy as HC. With Griffin and Morris and Garcon and Reed, I believe we have the tools to be successful on offense for years to come, so coaching at that position isn't as much of a priority. We need a defense that can support the offense.

Mike Shanahan.

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach

I chose Briles because if RG3 is our franchise QB then this is why I want Briles:

He doesn't pick a QB for his system, he builds the system around what the QB can do. Plus I read somewhere that his fast paced offense is technically faster then what Chip Kelly does.

Baylor coach Art Briles builds his offense around each quarterback - ESPN

Is there a playbook?
"When I was at Houston, the first thing everybody wanted was the playbook," said Briles, who coached the Cougars from 2003 to '07. "A guy's not going to read or study it. Kids play video games, so we show them the plays on video. Everything is on an iPad, and we label it and number them. A playbook is something we don't do.

"I'm a visual learner, and people learn differently. If you can see something, you remember it. If you read it and try to interpret it, it's a little different. We do a lot of repetition on the field so guys can learn it."
Chris Brown on how Art Briles's potent offense has made Baylor a national title contender - Grantland

I was a proponent for Gruden but we picked up Shanahan. I'm ready for a fast paced offense. I'm ready for an offense that can score in less then a min if need be. I'm looking for a coach that can run a 2 min drill if need be.

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach

This is a tough choice.

What I really want is for Mike Shanahan to stay, change some assistant coaches, and do some things differently. But I don't think that he would be willing to do that.

There are some very intriguing choices on the list. Of the coaches I didn't vote for, I would probably be most comfortable with David Shaw because I like a heavy dose of the running game in my offense. And I think it would be fun to see what Kevin Sumlin could do as an NFL HC.

Ultimately, I went with previous NFL HC experience. I picked Jon Gruden because I have a gut feeling that he could make the coaching staff transition go relatively smoothly and that he would keep what is good and change what needs to be changed on both sides of the ball.

Actually, I don't know. Brown is definitely the favorite to be GM. For HC a lot of moving pieces right now. A lot of realistic possibilities. Too early to really know

Doesn't he more or less just call in concepts to Manning and he calls the plays from there? Just wondering how much Gase really does or if it's more on Manning.

For some reason, Im much more worried about our OC and DC next year. Its seems more likely those changes will be made as opposed to HC. I think another HC mentioned before and I would endorse would be Perry Fewell HC with Joe Philbin OC. I think that would be a great combo on the sideline.

He made of all things Tebow better if you can believe that and the Broncos reached the playoffs that year. He must have been doing something right, His name is mentioned all over as a very bright offensive mind and HC candidate.

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach

I picked David Shaw because of the West-Coast roots.

I also want to put in the name Russ Grimm. He can develop offensive lineman, see Jon Jansen and Chris Samuels. He has lead teams with strong running games, won the Superbowl (Steelers) as an assistant coach and had the 5th best passing attack with the Cardinals. He is a Redskins HOF, he can develop players in our weakest position (Oline). Hue Jackson, Ken Whisenhunt or Greg Knapp as OC and Ken Norton Jr. as DC.

Norton is a disciple of Pete Carroll, working 9 years under him and gaining the title of assistant HC defense. With Norton on board, I would like them to retain R.Morris. Knapp working RG3 will help him make that leap forward.

Yeah they made the playoffs but Tebow was garbage.

Kyle was being tossed around as a hot candidate last year too, just saying.

It's not hard to look great when Manning is your QB, that's why I would be a little leery of hiring him as HC along with him only being 34.

Exactly, I mean according to what I hear on the local sports radio stations from former players and others supposedly "connected" to the locker room, Peyton is pretty much the OC - runs the meetings too...

I'm sure there is a cordial "working" relationship there, but I don't think anyone is under the impression that Gase is actually in charge of that offense...in any aspect other than title.

As a HC, in the sense of being a leader of the organization, you won't find many better choices than Shaw.

I think Grimm's window has likely passed

Don't sleep on Hue Jackson as a possible staff addition

Whisenhunt as HC, maybe he can get Russ back in the fold as oline/ assistant HC. I think coming back to the Redskins would hold weight as well. Jackson and Knapp on staff as QB and Receivers coach this team would be very strong coaching wise.

Honestly, since we have MS I'd prefer we just keep him and fix whats broken. Think about this for a moment....

RG3's numbers (stats) are right there with Peyton Manning and other QB's leading their teams to victories. Except RG3 is on a losing team. Most of us fans were concerned about the team not breaking 20 points per game. Two years in a row we have done that.

I'd look for a better DC and can Haslett. and do something about special teams.
