Guys don't ever come to Japan. They put mayo on pizza.

Well, I just started buying the frozen sandwich steaks from costco so I can make them at home. I know its not sliced sirloin or anything, but its like 5 or 6 bucks for enough meat for 12 8" sandwiches.

I like mayo on mine, but I found the biggest difference between a good one and a great one, no matter what you like on it (and this also applies to burgers) is a toasted bun.

I've toasted burger buns on the grill for years and everyone always raves about my burgers. Really they're nothing special, but the only thing I can think of that I do that most others dont is toast the bun. I do the same thing with my steak and cheese subs.

I toast a nice italian sandwich roll on a cookie sheet in the broiler. On the same cookie sheet, I put the meat I've cooked (ever so slightly underdone) in a pile, top it with grilled onions, mushrooms, and bacon, them smother it with american and provolone cheese. I pop that in the oven with the bun so the cheese actually gets slightly toasted as well and melts throughout the sandwich.

My wife likes lettuce and tomato with hers, but I just slap my meat/cheese pile on my toasted bun with a bit of mayo and go to town.

i love mayo, but i don't see that one working out if you have a good pizza. Maybe one of those totino's one dollar frozen jobs, but not a good pizza.

I like mayo on mine, but since mayonaisse is largely the hobgoglin of white folks, I think it would be more appropriate to ask the customer what they want on their sandwich.

Mayo is a necessity on a deli sandwich, but not on a cheesesteak if it's made right.

You only need mayo on a cheesesteak if the meat is all dried out, in which case the mayo masks the nasty dry meat. If it's made right, mayo just gets in the way.

YEAH! I just had one there a couple of weeks ago, holy cow was that good. I like Delissandro's in Roxborough a lot, though I'm not up in that direction much anymore.

And in which case, it's not a Philly cheesesteak.

There's no such thing as a dried out Philly cheesesteak.

For me mayo belongs in salads. The only exception is a turkey sandwich. Even then I go light on the mayo, I hate it when it's slopped on, it can totally ruin a good sandwich.

Because of this post, I stopped at the store on the way home and got all the fixin's to make steak and cheeses at home last night for dinner. Have some ingredients left over, so that will be lunch tomorrow.

hell yeah! You could've just stopped by, I'm actually making them for dinner tonight. They only take about 15 minutes and the only mess you have is a skillet and a cookie sheet...

How'd you make yours?
