Colts-Redskins Postgame Thread

Feel free to cry to our heart's content in here gents.

Positives:

We are 1/8th of the way through the season.

We've seen this team at peak performance, and now we've seen this team at what I hope is its' worst performance.

Defense did aiight I guess, certainly they played decent enough to win.

Negatives (oh boy where to start lol)

Offensive line: For a supposed best unit in the NFL, they couldn't run block worth a shit today, and they didn't look great pass blocking either.

Receivers: I'll put partial blame on the o-line but you gotta give some blame to the receivers for not getting open today. Also shouts out J.Doct, I still remain one of your few loyal supporters and that dropped pass (if it touches your hands, it's a catchable ball imo) in the first quarter really set the tone for our ineptitude.

Alex Smith: Conservative passes/no interceptions are fine when you can score points. Let's just be honest, philosophy wise Smith and Cousins are not the same.

Run game in general: Let me throw some shade at the coaches too, it felt like we were never committed to the run at any point today. Leading rusher J. Crowder? LOL.

Coaching: From the start we didn't look prepared, and they did. Jay Grudes thats on you.

TL;DR: It's mostly on the offense today, but now we see what a conservative passing game looks like without run support. It's the kind of soul-crushing we-don't-have-a-chance offense that gives you no hope to win a game.

I still believe we lie somewhere between not-as-good as last week and not-as-bad as this week, but now we know there's more work to be done.

What a difference a week makes.

Same old skins, look good one week and shit the next. Defense played well enough to win, offense blows. Sign Dez please, these other guys suck. I knew PRich wasn't gonna do shit.

Defense played well but they put us behind the 8-ball to start the game then when we needed a stop the most after getting within 14-9 we let them go right down the field for another score.

On offense, too many cutsie plays and bad offensive line play.

In all 3 facets, we let a bad team come into our stadium and physically manhandle us for all 60 minutes. That's the saddest part.

Gruden and Manusky just don't instill any confidence in me. I assume we'll look like shit every week. Pleasantly surprised last week but right back to normal this week.

I wouldn't touch Dez with a ten foot pole. The last big name Cowboy loudmouth took Dan to the cleaners for only 2-3 INTS to his name while he was here. I still remember Johnny Morton burning Deion all game long in the Sliverdome in '99 or '00. If Dez was worth a nickel, he would have been picked up by now. Skins need to get some young studs in here and start fresh. Doctson needs to go once his contract is up. He is just Taylor Jacobs 2.0.

Positive: everyone in the NFC East will be 1-1 after tonight (unless we're lucky and the Gmen and Cowpukes manage to tie).

Gruden just doesn't look the part of a HC. We are only going to get subpar candidates for the HC position as long as the current owner and his minions are in charge. Not necessarily bad coaches, but just not ready for the big step up to be a HC

Good, I hope it continues as the season progresses if they continue to lose. When Detroit fans weren't going to give up their hard earned $$$$$$$ for crap football, the ownership responded. Billy got dethroned and Mama Ford took over. Things are only a bit better, but at least it showed that fans can get the owners to at least attempt to bring a winner in Detroit. Not too sure what Skins fans were thinking by awarding Dan for bringing them crappy football all of these years. Only real contender he had, was the '99 team that he inherited from Cook. It is good that the fans know they have options for good football via NCAA football. The Hokies look strong.

Teams just have absolutely no fear about having to play us at home. Every team knows that they can 100% win the game and the home crowd won't bother them at all.

Hearing a lot of calls on twitter and what not for Jay to be fired. That's always the knee jerk reaction after a bad loss, but i think the cries will be louder if we have a losing season. This is only one bad loss, but i am concerned about down the road. Most have pointed out that we have absolutely no advantage at home.

The Colts are not a bad team. They have played 1 bad quarter this year against what looks to be a pretty good Bengals team, otherwise they would be 2-0.

Terrible game really by the Skins, but no need to hit the panic button yet IMO.

Let me explain why I have fatigue with the team...it’s starts with the ownership and front office. The moves for/at QB and the handling of that position is gutless and pathetic. The fan base is constantly sold poor decisions at the qb position.

Watching 2 previous coordinators like mcvay and shanny jr come thru and leave the skins only to thrive elsewhere.

Never getting a solid defensive coordinator since Greg Williams.

Lauvao got exposed but overall the OL had a bad game.

I thought Smith had a decent game. Had Doctson and Richardson each not drop a 3rd down pass, had Reed not give up a fumble, this would have been a different ball game.

Defense played really well, on top of 2 turnovers, how many punts did they force?

Mason Foster had a monster game, wonder what he needs to do to get some love...

I agree with what you just said.
But the one thing that best exemplifies this mess is the lack of replacing oft injured and no talent LG Shawn Lauvao. I was pissed on this site to no end when we did not address LG in Free Agency and then again in the draft. We have known for two years that this is a massive hole in our starting lineup but we continue to over spend millions on a oft injured worthless WR from Seattle or that loser we got from Cleveland last year who we cut.
Then we bring Lauvao back off the street and put him in the starting lineup because we have no plan B. I think Lauvao came with Gruden from Bengals. So that should tell you about that.
No good Defensive coordinator wants to come here. So that is why we have the current guy and the reject prior. That is our GM and owners fault.
Our coaching staff is an embarrassment. Have they ever made in game adjustments that won us the game? Have they ever out coached the other team? NO

Re: Colts-Redskins Postgame Thread

9 points and no touchdowns at home against a very average defense.

Fucking pathetic.

Gruden’s offense game plan was utterly terrible. What happened?

Dropped passes, fumble by Reed, Oline was the worst performance of the day. Not a lot of toughness by the Oline.

A Smith is extremely limited without a running game. Don’t give me all qb are...bullshit. Cousins today in Green Bay had no running game. Cousins didn’t have a running game the last 2 years in DC.

Had Smith thrown w/ better anticipation it's and easy completion to Reed.

Maybe so, but that doesn't take anything away from how terrible that was. He wasn't the only one who played badly but it's too common with him. We can do better.

Whole offense was trash today. OLine, wrs, backs etc. Smith is not a gunslinger nor should he be, we don't need a guy throwing 400 yards, we had that and what did it do for us? Nothing. We are an avg team, but one thing is for sure, we have no pass rush. Where is Ryan Kerrigan?? This is why I said I would trade for mack

I’ve been saying it for a while but our drafts are mediocre at best and it shows in our players.

what will it take to clean house?? How many losses in a row would do it? Looking at schedule we could very well win only 4 or 5 games this year ... just about everybody on this site is down on Gruden and we have major issues at wr so what positive outlook can any of us realistically have? The empty seats on home opener says a lot ..we got green bay, New Orleans and Carolina coming up .. we will be dogs in all of those games and could be 1-4 ..would Snyder fire gruden ?

It is hard for me to agree that the defense played well enough to win. They let Indy run a clinic on them on the first drive. Yes that has a lot to do with the coaches clearly Indy watched film and saw how to manipulate the defense but the rush averaged over 5 yds per carry on that first drive. I also look at the third and long they had the Colts after Josh Norman almost had a safety. Next play first down by Indy. That should never happen when you have a team pinned down like that.
