Redskins | Team meeting with Saunders Thursday
Thu, 19 Jan 2006 05:46:58 -0800 Jerry McDonald, of the Oakland Tribune, reports <A href="http://www.kffl.com/team/21/nfl">Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Al Saunders was scheduled to meet with the Washington Redskins Thursday, Jan, 19, for a lucrative position as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator, an NFL source said. Saunders could receive an offer from the deep pockets of Washington owner Daniel Snyder that would exceed what he could make as the Oakland Raiders head coach. |
Re: offensive coordinator
Wow, this would be a very interesting acquisition!
|
Re: offensive coordinator
Totally Interesting. One of the hallmarks of Gibbs career with the Skins and with other pursuits, is his innovation. You never know what he has up his sleeve. Can't wait to see how this plays out!

Re: offensive coordinator
Did Gibbs ever use a O cordinator in the past?
|
Re: offensive coordinator
you can't fault KC's offense ;) this pickup could be beyond killer... it'd be funny if we ended up with 3 coaches making 10mill a year between them.

Re: offensive coordinator
Wow. Saunders is the guy I had wanted as our coach when Spurrier left....before Gibbs decided to come back. Interesting to note that Saunders and Gibbs were on the coaching staff together at USC in the early 70s.
It begs the question though, is someone leaving? Adding Musgrave and Saunders in back to back years and nobody going seems like a bit much. Could Breaux be retiring? |
Re: offensive coordinator
I wonder if Al Davis would overpay him to keep him away from us just out of spite? He seems like the type!

Yes, Dan Henning...now w/Carolina. And Don Breaux, our current OC, worked with Gibbs in the past. |

I know, I was saying that he would do that as revenge for Williams! |
Re: offensive coordinator
Sounds like a great move. When Joe Gibbs retire, Gregg Williams will take over as head-coach and oversee the defense. Then, he won't have to look for an O-coordinator. Al Saunders can oversee the offense.

That's if Al Saunders actually comes here....and if Gregg Williams actually takes over one day. |
Re: offensive coordinator
I for got about Don Breaux but does he realy play the tradional role as OC? I thought that Gibbs was acting more as OC.

Could be but I think Don B. has the official title, if you will. |
Re: offensive coordinator
I would welcome the idea of Al Saunders being the OC. But that would mean we'd have to get rid of someone in the staff wouldn't it?
