Walters's Redskins Offseason Plan
 

I read Trevor Walters article displaying his suggestions on what the redskins should do this offseason and I felt it was worth discussion. The link is:

He did make some good points, but some of his moves are disagreable. I agree with his idea of signing Dockery, Clark, and Evans. Plus cutting Bowen and Noble. However I disagree with idea that players Omar Stoutmire, and Ade Jimoh are replaceable. Jimoh had a major impact on special teams and often times filled in admirably, making momentum shifting hits on opponents. Omar was a good low-costing backup. I also disagree with his assessment of dropping Rock. I think Cartright under Al Saunders may be converted back to a Full back. That position was a key component in Saunders system in KC. Rock does play special teams and wants to be on the team. He should atleast be able to compete for a position agianst White for a spot on the team.

Ramsey, I feel can be more usefull in a player for player trade. I know it is rare, but why not. What do you all think of this article. discuss

Just look at his playoff preformance. He was in on almost every punt coverage play, and he showed that he could lay the wood on somebody. Guys that lay their bodies on the line for special teams are hard to find

agree about jimoh. he was a terror on kick coverage and got better as a #4 corner. made some really nice tackles inthe open. we keep him over harris in aheartbeat. but still need other depth at corner.
we have to be carefull in keeping both prioleau and stoutmire. one would be fine, but we need another young player with better speed to groom as competition for clark-who is marginal as a starter because of his deficiencies in coverage.
we should think about quinton mickell, the philly safety who is a restricted free agent and playing behind lewis and dawkins. he simply won't play but he is a good player.. he would only cost a 6 rounder to sign.. food for thought

Thumps up for Jimoh and Evans but, bring some competition in for Rock. It's safe to keep Clark around too.

evans is good depth, the thing is, all these guys are super cheap and they know the system (and are obviously good character guys). Outside clark no one is going to get paid much of anything so dropping them for unknowns is pointless. Bring in new blood and let them fight it out in camp.

Jimoh was undoubtedly a special teams demon and serviceable reserve corner. Clark clobbers people and is adequate in coverage. Evans could be the heir apparent of Wynn when he retires. Rock is a solid utility guy, contributing on special teams and filling in nicely at RB (how many #3 running backs actually get 100 yards in a game--like he did against St. Louis?).

What we really need is some depth on the offensive line (to replace Raymer and possibly Friedman), one or two receivers to challenge for the second, third, and fourth slots (including a PR so Moss won't have to risk himself), a DE or DT (pass rush specialist), a nickelback to challenge Harris, and a punter and kicker to challenge at both positions.

Wynn isn't that close to retirement. If anything, he restructures and sticks around for some more years. It's possible that Evans could beat him this year in camp.

And I believe Friedman has been picked up by Da' Bears.

actually a lot do, but mainly through injuries and rarely in 9 carries.

Friedman was cut during the season.

Very nice read. Thanks. I think it is imperative to keep Clark because as stated in the article he has become a leader. Jimoh was criticized time and again over the last couple of years, but I feel he has grown and is only going to get better and he is definitely a special teams demon. Evans is a keeper for he is only going to get better and he's young.

The best part of all of this is the fact that we are going into the third year in Williams defense and the players will be thinking less and making plays based on instincts so if you think our defense was good before, look out.

BTW-PLEASE keep #56! That's definitely not an addition by subtraction.

great thread!....i agree with xtremes fan cause i play saftey for my igh school, and i know once u learn and have the system down, you make plays by instinct instead of thinking...haha but were talkin ab the nfl
