Willie McGinest Sacked??
All-time postseason sack leader Willie McGinest has reportedly been sacked by the New England Patriots.

No major NFL cuts were officially announced Wednesday night. The newspaper reports that although the Patriots weren't struggling to get under the $102 million cap, McGinest carried a cap figure of more than $7 million, which made him a target to be cut. The Patriots would reportedly like to re-sign McGinest at a more palatable deal, but sources told the newspaper that the Cleveland Browns, San Diego Chargers, Dallas Cowboys and several other teams plan to make a run at signing him. The 34-year-old McGinest, who has played 12 seasons with the Patriots, is third on the team's all-time sacks list with 78. He was second on the Patriots in the 2005 season with six and set a playoff record with 4½ sacks in the team's wild-card victory over the Jaguars. McGinest's 16 postseason sacks are the most in NFLhistory. I think this makes the LaVar release a bit more interesting. |
Re: Willie McGinest Sacked??
im fine with signing one old guy. i dont want to have the all-geriatric team.
thundercats hoooooooooooooooooo |
Re: Willie McGinest Sacked??
I don't think he'd be a great fit 4-3 due to speed, but i'm sure he'll be effective somewhere.

I heard he was cut because fans liked him, and people outside of New England knew his name, which goes against Belichick's "No player is bigger than the team" motto. They'll be a better team without a distraction like Willie McGinest on the roster. :laughing2 |
Re: Willie McGinest Sacked??
34 years old, huh? I hope he takes his geratol every morning. jk. Old guys do bring stability and leadership to a team (the Over the Hill Gang approach) but the salary cap makes their veteran salaries a concern.

Re: Willie McGinest Sacked??
I like the idea that he plays linebacker but it also a great pass rusher, but he's too old to waste a lot on. He need GW to bring in more young guys to mold because, hopefully, he's here for the long haul even after Gibbs re-retires.

Re: Willie McGinest Sacked??
He's a beast, but I doubt the Redskins are interested. On Redskins.com, a pro scout was saying that the Redskins are looking to add youth to the defense. Obviously, Willie doesn't fit the bill.

Re: Willie McGinest Sacked??
I think I read somewhere the Cowboys may be interested

Re: Willie McGinest Sacked??
He looks like another Bruce Smith (except he has rings). They don't need to pay huge signing bonuses for guys on the downside of their careers.

Re: Willie McGinest Sacked??
he'd be good in dallas.

Re: Willie McGinest Sacked??
This makes me sick. I can't stand the way the Pats do business. Not so much because it's "wrong" in a business sense, but because Kraft gets a pass for all of this shit. He's not that much different from Snyder and Snyder gets killed in the media. All reporters can talk about is how great Kraft is, that's bs. He's no different from Snyder, if they didn't win they'd be viewed the same way as Washington.

Re: Willie McGinest Sacked??
I could see him going to the cowboys. In the pats 3-4 he was pretty effective, and the cowboys have a 3-4 too... i'd love for them to sign him then he turns out like shit.

Re: Willie McGinest Sacked??
He may also reunite with Romeo Crennel in Cleveland

I don't follow what you're getting at here. |

The Pats get rid of a ton of veterans who have been nothing but loyal to them for years and then they just release them. I hate when that happens. The Skins do it a lot, too, but that's not why the Skins are hated by the media. However, I think we would all agree that the media hates Snyder. I think the media would hate Kraft if they didn't win. They cut so many vets as soon as they use them up. I hate that. I think players deserve better than that. And for the record, I know that that's "today's NFL," but I just don't like it. Just like Ike Bruce getting cut. The last few years the Pats have cut Lawyer Milloy, Ty Law, Willie McGinest and Troy Brown (although they re-signed Brown) that's ridiculous. I don't like the cut throat businessmen in the NFL. I don't like the guys who just use players up. That pisses me off. The Pats do it all the time. I don't like it and if they didn't win I think the media would attack them just like they do the Skins. |
