Released Redskins
The Redskins have released five veteran players, including veteran cornerback Walt Harris, the team announced on Friday. The moves, which did not come as a surprise, ensure that the Redskins will be under the $102 million salary cap before the start of free agency.
The players released are as follows:

Matt Bowen, S
Walt Harris, CB
Brandon Noble, DT
Cory Raymer, C
Tom Tupa, P
Who is Next to go? |
Re: Players released:
Hopefully Taylor Jacobs.

Re: Players released:
John Hall would be next on my hit list. It isn't that he's a bad kicker, just over priced for his performance/health/KO distance.

Re: Released Redskins

Re: Released Redskins
Doesn't Smoot have some legal trouble from the "love boat" scandal, tho? Do we really need two players possibly facing jail time?

patten is 86 yards a game, and clearly the #2 WR we have. ditching him would be dumb, he's pretty cheap. |

86 yards a game? On what planet? 9 games played, 217 total yards, 0 TD. That's 24 yards a game. One game with > 60 yards receiving. ONE. And he had 7 catches that game, so the ypc is pretty abysmal. Dump Patten. Dump Thrash. Dump Jacobs. Your net loss there is 25 yards a game of receiving. If you can't get a 25 yard/game guy off the FA wire, might as well hang it up. |

Re: Released Redskins
man all i saw of patten is dropped balls left and right, no wonder brunell never threw to him,, plus he is short,, we need a tall wr,, you know some one i would pick to compliment moss is joe jurevicius,, that is one tough sob

and he'll be better with al saunders
Look at Patten's career numbers. He is never going to be a world beater. And last year he set career lows for yards per catch, under 10. He's 32, has never been great, and missed 7 games last year with near career low production. And some of you guys complained Bruce was too old? Old Man Bruce caught for more yards and TD's in his last 3 years than Patten has in his last 5. He's a WR2 and that's all fine and good, but you shouldn't be looking at a guy in his TENTH year and going "oh he'll be better with Al Saunders". |

We need another receiver, but Patten was not doing a bad job. Brunnel and him were not in sync early, and once they started to get it together, he got hurt. Go back and look at the game film and you will see what I'm talking about. |
Re: Released Redskins
I have a feeling that David Patten will be like this year's Mark Brunell. A year ago at this time 2/3rds of Redskins fans (rough estimate) were saying he had to go. That all changed in 2005. I think the same may happen with Patten

Re: Released Redskins
There's no need to go crazy and cut all of our WRs.
You can't have all-stars at every position. Patten will be a quality #3. |
