Gibbs' recruiting methods

Anyone else impressed with the personal touch that Gibbs brings to recruiting players?

He's always quick to mention a players' family when he introduces them in these press conferences, and Randle El mentioned how he was blown away when Gibbs asked to speak with his wife when he called.

In today's all about the money mentality, it's refreshing to hear how Gibbs goes about bringing players in, and I think we're seeing that players really appreciate this.

Thats old school right there that's why coaches like gibbs, parcell and Vermeil have so much succes because they go for the connection with the players and respect then and their families

im impressed as well. that definitely has something to do with why players might want to pick washington over other destinations. that and the payday.

Gibbs is a very genuine guy, but also very smart in my opinion. If someone calls you to offer you a job and asks to speak to your wife first, and then goes on to impress her, he has an "insider" doing the rest for him! I mean really, for most of us that are married, I think you can relate to this approach. If he has already "sold" the spouse, how much easier is it going to be to sell the player! After Randel El hangs up with Gibbs, his wife is saying things like "when are we moving to D.C.!"

he said the first thing he looks for in a player before he signs them is their character, and how they will fit in the locker room. anything like athleticism and talent is a bonus after that

What's funny is that when Gibbs came back eveyone was questioning if he could relate to the players of "today", among other things.

A reporter asked him shortly after his arrival if he would have any problems
re-adjusting to the present culture of the NFL. Gibbs responded, and I'm para-phrasing here, human nature doesn't really change all that much. People are people, they've always pretty much been the same.

The one-two pucnh of Gibbs charm and stature and Little Danny's checkbook is unbeatable. Didn't we sign everyone that we brought to that Wizard's game?

Gibbs is great at this part of the game. A real master. Same deal in NASCAR, which is why his team won the Nextel Cup last season. The guy can bring folks together for a common goal, and really make it a family.

Gibbs is amazing. But, if we signed everyone at the game, maybe it was the 1-2 punch of Arenas-Jamison that did the trick. They did beat the best team in tehNBA that night...

I think Randle El and Archuleta were just happy to come to a city that actually has a basketball team....take that Pittsburgh and St. Louis!

the man has values that are unmatched.
he can win a stanley cup in hockey cause he has the knack to find who the right people are all about. he,s the only coach to win championships in both nascar and football.

he stands alone.

I read in some article that they came late, left early and didnt seem to be really watching the game. Can I have those $2500 floor seats, Mr. Snyder? I promise I'll pay attention!

You are so right........And it should not be old school but just the way it is all the time. Respect going both ways. As for the men he has picked all have strong character and family ties. At least three of them talked about God in there interviews in making thier pick coming to the Redskins. I bet the one thing that could ring true about these men is the way they were raised!

This isn't the first time Gibbs has been lauded for taking personal interest in potential draftees/FAs. What I don't get is why any coach wouldn't at least attempt to follow suit. I understand that it may come off as disingenuous, but Gibbs was the only coach to call Randle El himself and I know other teams were interested.

Snyder's money helps, but it definitely isn't all about the Hamiltons...

Yeah, you know your city sucks when they won't even put a D-league team there. GO ROANOKE DAZZLE!!!!!

Somebody-I think it might have been Randy Thomas when he signed-once said that they were impressed by Dan Snyder's personal involvement in the signings. He said most owners don't get involved until it's time to sign the check, but Snyder called during the "courting" process to talk to Thomas and his family. And that impressed Thomas (if it was Thomas I'm thinking of)
