Redskins Notes (3/31): K Wright, Evans etc
Redskins | Team expected to sign K. Wright

Redskins | Team expected to re-sign D. Evans Fri, 31 Mar 2006 18:41:16 -0800 ESPN.com's John Clayton reports the Washington Redskins are expected to re-sign free agent DE Demetric Evans to a multi-year contract that is worth $1 million per season. Big news, Evans is back and our DL depth is secure now (3 capable DTs and a sub, 3 capable DEs and a sub) with true #1s (carter/griffin) for each. Wright is a good corner that should really help our depth and is pretty solid himself. This leaves the skins with about 3.3$mill in free cap space to sign lloyd, draft picks, and look at a good backup/okay starter quality LBs if they want. My guess is that we'll probably call it quits on FA unless Keith Adams comes cheaply. |
Re: Redskins Notes (3/31): K Wright, Evans etc
Quick look at contracts of two guys the skins or board members were interested in:
Texans | Contract update: S. Cowart Fri, 31 Mar 2006 18:24:54 -0800 Houston Texans LB Sam Cowart signed a two-year contract with base salaries of $710,000 (2006) and $2 million (2007). Jets | Contract update: A. Dyson Fri, 31 Mar 2006 18:30:38 -0800 New York Jets CB Andre Dyson signed a five-year contract with base salaries of $750,000 (2006), $850,000 (2007), $1.225 million (2008), $2.05 million (2009) and $2.1 million (2010). Dyson got about $4mill in signing bonus and makes slightly more per year than carlos rogers. He would have been my pick to sign, but he's really a #2 type corner, and the jets give him the opportunity to start every game. |

I love it! |

Kenny Wright - Jacksonville Jaguars
Kenny Wright #25 | Cornerback | Jacksonville Jaguars Roster: Height: 6-1 Weight: 207 Born: Sep 14, 1977 - Ruston, LA College: Northwestern State Draft: 1999 - 4th round (25th pick) by the Minnesota Vikings
Year Team G Solo Ast Total Sack YdsL Int Yds PD FFum DefTD 1999 Minnesota 16 68 7 75 0.0 0 1 11 5 1 0 2000 Minnesota 16 37 6 43 0.0 0 0 0 3 0 0 2001 Minnesota 15 34 5 39 0.0 0 0 0 9 1 0 2002 Houston 16 30 4 34 1.0 13 0 0 11 0 1 2003 Houston 15 46 5 51 1.0 9 3 -2 12 0 0 2004 Houston 16 11 2 13 1.0 10 0 0 0 0 0 2005 Jacksonville 16 55 9 64 0.0 0 2 4 6 0 0 Career 110 281 38 319 3.0 32 6 13 46 2 1
insider scouting report: http://proxy.espn.go.com/nfl/players/scouting?statsId=4770 |
Re: Redskins Notes (3/31): K Wright, Evans etc
Out of Northwestern State, eh. Well, he's already got something on Ladell Betts.

Re: Redskins Notes (3/31): K Wright, Evans etc
Nice to see Evans will be back, he provides nice depth
|
Re: Redskins Notes (3/31): K Wright, Evans etc
evans will be good for depth now, i'm glad he didn't sign elsewhere. Even though i've never heard of kenny wright, i think he will give us some depth at corner, and possibly take the nickel job.

Wright started, every game I believe, last year for one of the best defenses in the league. |

Lol that's good enough for me. |
Re: Redskins Notes (3/31): K Wright, Evans etc
he has a lot of experience as a nickle corner for texans i think. solid pick up for cheap i assume
|
Re: Redskins Notes (3/31): K Wright, Evans etc
He did start every game for the jags last year, and he played 3 years for the texans as a #3 and also had 5 starts there (presumeably due to injury).
110 games played, 50 career starts, 1 game as a DNP (did not play)... that leaves 1 game unaccounted for (the 2003 texans game where i'd guess he missed due to injury). the fact that its a 1 year deal for a #3 CB means it a sub $1mill payout i'd assume. |
Re: Redskins Notes (3/31): K Wright, Evans etc
Redskins | Contract update: A. Jimoh
Fri, 31 Mar 2006 22:16:08 -0800 David Elfin, of the Washington Times, reports the one-year tender CB Ade Jimoh signed to remain with the Washington Redskins was valued at $721,600. Redskins | Police and courts: S. Taylor Fri, 31 Mar 2006 22:12:38 -0800 David Elfin, of the Washington Times, reports negotiations between lawyers for Washington Redskins S Sean Taylor and Florida state's attorneys on possibly altering the charges that Taylor faces proved fruitless and his trial remains scheduled for April 10. Taylor faces a maximum of 46 years in prison: 15 years on each of three felony assault charges and one year on a simple battery charge. |
Re: Redskins Notes (3/31): K Wright, Evans etc
lets lock ade up for the next 5 or 6 years, he is the new face of the franchise
|
Re: Redskins Notes (3/31): K Wright, Evans etc
So, with Ade Jimoh and Kenny Wright about to be signed, does that change the draft priorities you think? With Springs, Rogers, Wright and Jimoh presumably the top four corners, now I'm not so sure cornerback remains an absolute need in the draft.

According to this we could be going OLB in the second round. Plus we might be bringing in LB Keith Adams and re-signing Warrick Holdman |
