inside linebacker-D'Qwell Jackson

University of Maryland inside linebacker D'Qwell Jackson was among 50 local NFL Draft prospects who visited Redskins Park on Friday, April 7. It is expected that Jackson will be selected either in the first round or second round of the April 29-30 NFL Draft. The 6-0, 228-pounder logged a team-high 137 tackles and four sacks last season for the Terrapins. In many NFL Draft guides, Jackson is listed as the top inside linebacker available. He is regarded as an aggressive and physical linebacker, but somewhat under-sized. Jackson spoke with Redskins.com on Friday after the workout:

looks like he high on their list :)

Wishful thinking and he would bring the excitment that LaVar did as a rookie but he is a sure 1st rounder.

Don't NFL coaches convert college linebackers of his size to safety in the pros?

Some college LB's play bigger than their size. Other's play faster than their speed.

We had a kid at our high school, Eric Andino, who never ran faster than a 5.1, but now he's on a full ride to Michigan State as a LB. He plays really fast, although he doesn't run well.

I think Jackson plays big enough to be a LB in the NFL. True strong safetys are a dying breed, as you see more and more cover guys playing.

not unless they run fast... D'Qwell is like a 4.75 type guy, fine for MLB, not great for safety. Plus he's good at MLB.

He's alsso not a lock for the first round. he's the 2nd highest rated MLB, but only the 7-10th highest LB in the draft.

Remember, the Skins are all about trading current AND future draft picks to move up into the first round.

D'Qwell? yeah i'd be pretty happy about the pick, BUT, he won't be able to call the defense his first year, so we'd either need to go 3-4 or have him play outside (he's a bit slow for OLB, but might be alright there). It really depends on who else is at the spot though, but he wouldn't be the worst guy we could choose.
