Re: No Love For Sammy Baugh

Well, most people that are currently watching football probably don't remember Sammy Baugh, which is the first step. The 2nd, is if you look at his stats, a negative TD / INT ratio doesn't exactly help his cause.

Re: No Love For Sammy Baugh

The fact he had to play
Quarterback single handedly making the PASS a part of the game
Defensive Back making record intersecptions [6 in 1 game]
Punter hold kicking records STILL after 50 years

I agree uneducated young people are the problem

Re: No Love For Sammy Baugh

The problem is he played so long ago, it's hard to compare him to the modern era QBs.

Hey, he must be awesome, because he is the only Redskin with his jersey retired.... number 33.

This is a messed up poll, but then again you'll get that on internet polls.

I ranked Sammy #1 just to help boost him a little. He's still #20. :(

Montana is 1st, my top 5 were:

1. Sammy Baugh
2. Johnny Unitas
3. Fran Tarkenton
4. Joe Montana
5. Dan Marino

Re: No Love For Sammy Baugh

I also feel most new era QBs would smoke the old school guys, but that's me. You can't be blamed for playing against the competition that was around, or the technology of the day.

I agree, if anything Baugh and the old geezers from that era are way overrated. Baugh was obviously a talented guy, but back then you only had a handful of truly exceptional athletes. Nowadays you've got rosters full of athletes who train year round and whose only focus is playing football.

A championship team from this era would crush any teams from back then. Imagine the '85 Bears defense going up against some of those old-time teams that had leather helmets? Forget about it.

Plus those old teams played in black and white. B&W sucks, color rules!

Yeah, what year was color invented ? And I agree most of those guys are dead, so yeah their teams would get crushed if they played today.
