Ladell Betts is he worthy of praise?
Has anyone been sold on Ladell being a starter for other teams. He has seen significant plays on offense over the past few years and has been forced to step up in needed situations. Alot of the analysts say he could be the main guy on most other teams and is a solid backup for the skins. I see him just as an average backup in a day and age that almost require teams to have 2 standout backs featured. Special teams, or at HB he can mix it up. I think he doesnt have the speed and luck to really shine just yet if he ever will, most backs in the league don't get that fortune. Seeing Chester Taylor land the Vikings job had me thinking what is the worth of Betts beyond a backup role. It would be devastating to lose him of course but personally it is difficult to be subjected to this propaganda. With Saunders now staffed I'm sure I will eat these words but it will be crucial to have an X-factor armed and ready to run. I'd go as far as dump Jacobs to get in that posistion for next year through the draft.

Re: L.Betts is he worthy of praise?
Saunders really likes him, and he won over Gibbs as well.
Enough said if you ask me. |
Re: L.Betts is he worthy of praise?
I've always liked Betts. He's faster than most people give him credit for. I'm glad we have him.

Re: L.Betts is he worthy of praise?
I've mentioned it before, but I still have nightmares of him fumbling on the goal line up in Buffalo a couple of years ago, probably because it was the only I've seen the Skins on the road and we were in the 2nd row of the endzone. The O-line opened a huge hole and it looked like he was going to walk in for the score (which I think would have tied the game) and then come right to us for a group celebration but then he coughed it up and a single tear rolled down my cheek.
Then again, I just watched those highlights from the 2nd dallas game last year, that hit on newman might make up for the fumble. Overall, I think we could be in a lot worse shape as far as our back-up RB goes. |
Re: L.Betts is he worthy of praise?
For the question if he could start for another team it seems every time we have asked him to fill in he has done a good job. He has averaged 3.97 yards per carry for us in the past four years. I think he's a great back up but would have to see him as a starter for more than a few games to see if he could hold up to running 25 or so times a game. It realy does not matter because we are not getting rid of him and the only way he will become a starter here is if Portis goes down. Then I have all the convidence that he could get the job done.

Re: L.Betts is he worthy of praise?
Betts is a servicable backup. He plays Special Teams, and the coaching staff likes him. By all means he's worthy.

Re: L.Betts is he worthy of praise?
He has my vote...he doesn't whine or complain. I wonder what he will do when his contract is up.

Re: L.Betts is he worthy of praise?
I agree with most of you guys. He is a solid backup and the hit he put on T. Newman of the Cowboys in week 15 last season was awesome. Plowed.

and i do believe our skins dont really miss that much when ladell is in there giving clinton p a breather |
Re: L.Betts is he worthy of praise?
Ladell may be the best backup in the NFL, his one weekness is his ability to stay healthy, although he hasen't shown much in the way of blocking either, but he's as well balanced as a runner as you could ask for.

Does anyone remember when Betts' poor blocking or rather perfect opportunity to block and he let Ed Reed of the Ravens blitz, strip Brunell, and return it for paydirt??? In that game Betts did nothing but make costly plays that resulted in the Ravens winning and Baltimore Skins fans have that as the only record and topic of conversation amongst the city between the two teams. This goes along with all the previous conversations of nit-picking the Offense under a microscope to find particles. Guilty as charged. Still heading to Florida. |
Re: L.Betts is he worthy of praise?
^^^ yes. That was a tough loss for some reason. I mean more than other games we lost back then. We had the game and special teams and that shit lost it for us. I always have blaimed betts for that. He just was thinking "shit" when reed 'broke' away. Then when reed passed him betts just stopped and watched in horror. I can remember thinking if he ran after reed and then reed forced the fumble the ball would be moving around enough to give betts a chance to recover it. However, betts just stopped and watched then the ball came out and he started to move.
I think betts could be a starter in many places. He is going to be huge this year. Him and portis are going to be mixing it up. Portis will get 16 carries a game with a nice 10 yards per rush average with betts on 15 carries. They are going to be unstoppable. Betts is going to be our bettis. I have called him the little bus for a while. |

That was dreadful |
