Training Camp Roster Predictions
The Washington Redskins enter training camp with most starting positions settled, however several battles will develop in camp for backup spots on the roster. Joe Gibbs typically insists that his depth players make a big impact on special teams. With that in mind, let's examine each position and attempt to identify the players who ultimately become a part of the 2006 Redskins. Today we look at the 25 players on offense and the 3 special teams specialists; tomorrow we'll examine the 25 on defense.

Re: Training Camp Roster Predictions
For once we really don't have a lot of drama headed into camp regarding position battles.
The team is pretty set across the board at least for the starters. Only a few positions have any real intrigue, weak side LB, WR depth, and maybe punter. Of course injuries can always throw a big wrench in the works, let's hope that doesn't happen. |

Great organization, great read.

Re: Training Camp Roster Predictions
Nice job Schneed!
I agree with matty, when the only real competion is going to be for 1 starting spot, backup roster spots and punter, I would say we are pretty well set. |
Re: Training Camp Roster Predictions
i was just browsing around and found some forums talking about Lumsden they all thought very highly of him and even went so far as to say the team has been extremely dull with him gone, but man, listening to these guys talk is weird, canadian football is crazy...

Re: Training Camp Roster Predictions
Damn good read, Schneed. You guys constantly confirm that this is without a doubt this is preiminent site for the true fan.
With that being said, it's good to have somewhat of quiet training camp this year. |
Re: Training Camp Roster Predictions

Re: Training Camp Roster Predictions
Yup, very nice read. Would love to see a couple offensive linemen impress Bugel this year so we can breathe a little bit easier.

I think that's truly the only of area of real concern in my mind. Quality depth along the OL. |
Re: Training Camp Roster Predictions
Right, because even though we didn't have any "serious" injuries last year, we have some guys get beat up and I'd love to have the depth to give some guys plays off or maybe games against shitty teams off.

Re: Training Camp Roster Predictions
Thanks for the love, guys.
It was more than a little alarming to me last year during the playoff game at Seattle when one of the tackles went out for a few plays (I can't remember if it was Jansen or Samuels). The Skins already had Randy Thomas out with the broken leg, so old man Brown was in at guard. Then when the tackle went down, they decided to move Brown out to Tackle and put Raymer in at Guard. Seems to me if they had any confidence in Molinaro they would have just sent him in at tackle and let Ray Brown stay at guard where he was actually a little bit useful. Either they really didn't think much of Molinaro at that point, or they vastly overrated Cory Raymer's ability to play guard. Either way, I hope Molinaro can be a good backup at T, because after that Seattle thing last year I'm not so sure. I think Pucillo makes for a solid backup C/G though actually. And I'm hoping Lefotu turns into a little something, either that or Walter can hopefully hang in there alright. But I'm worried about the backup at T especially. And as for G and C, there are a lot of "hopefully's" in this post. |
Re: Training Camp Roster Predictions
The way the game is being played these days, the thing that really seperates the winners from the losers is depth. I always hear people, sometimes myself included, complain about how much better their team would have been if this guy or that guy wouldn't have gotten hurt. But you know what, injuries are a reality in the NFL not an excuse. The best teams mangage to navigate choppy waters when a key guy goes down. I don't want to oversimplify, a team can't lose a Brady or a McNabb and still make a run. But it's becoming more and more rare that any one lasts the entire season - at any position.

Re: Training Camp Roster Predictions
At least Pucillo and Walters have some experience.
|
Re: Training Camp Roster Predictions
Make that starting experience.
