postgame comments from Portis
What do you guys make of Portis's postgame comments?
He was probably just frustrated over the situation, but I'm sure his comment about being injured in a game he had no business playing in will rub some fans the wrong way. |

Re: postgame comments from Portis
Any injury could happen at any time. I mean he could get hurt during practice. Does that mean he shouldn't practice either? That said, I think he was only going to play that series anyway
I think he's just understandably frustrated. He'll probably sit out the rest of the season and be ready for week one |
Re: postgame comments from Portis
Well i thought it came from frustration mostly, but if i was the coach i'dve played him for a series simply because he needs to start getting back into the rythm of playing football again.

Re: postgame comments from Portis
he looked as genuinely upset as i've ever seen him. very troubling.
he can't help but compete, and he knows it. the coaches should have too. |
Re: postgame comments from Portis
I sympathise with what he is saying but unless he is advocating that all the starters shouldn't be playing he needs to shut up. Besides, I am sure he wasn't going to play more than two series anyways. Also, was there really a need for him to pounce like a cat?
Injuries are part of the game and players need to play in these games even if little to get all their gears in shape. As I see it if you don't play in pre-season your gears won't be broken-in so to speak and in all likelihood you're probably going to get hurt in the first few games of the season. Clinton, I love you man but you're wrong. I don't want you playing a whole game but I think you aught to play a half or two before the season. |
Re: postgame comments from Portis
The only one's that it will rub the wrong way is the coaches who decieded to put him in there, personally RB's have the least amount to adjust to on offense and take the biggest pounding, they really don't need any uneccassary pounding before the season starts.

Re: postgame comments from Portis
Clinton can only play one way, thats just the way he's always done it. if he doesn't, he'll realize he's only 212lbs and that will ruin everything.

Re: postgame comments from Portis
Portis should be annoyed. It's one thing for a star RB to get injured on a running play--but tacking a defender after an interception (after you laid out as usual in blitz pickup)--would be very frustrating. Give Portis some time and I think he'll cool off though...

Re: postgame comments from Portis
For God's sake, he was only going to be in there for one series. Gibbs even said so after the game. He just wanted to have one drive with the number ones. I am glad to see that Clinton cares enough to run down a defender after an interception. He knew it was pre-season, and he should have tried to shove him out of bounds. He knows he isn't Sean Taylor. No one thinks they will ever get hurt when playing, and I think it really isn't the coaches’ fault and it sure isn't Clinton’s fault he got hurt.
It just happens. Hopefully he can rehab and be ready to go for week one. |
Re: postgame comments from Portis
He doesnt get paid to tackle and doesnt get to play another down b/c he couldnt let a preseason score happen. He's not responsible in preseason to care about a runback. They kick it back to him 30 secs. He's an idiot.

Coaching staff did nothing wrong, and Clinton played the game the way it's supposed to be played. I've had a pair of shoulder subluxations in my playing days, and although the severity of the injury varies, I can tell you from expierence that if this was the regular season, I'd bet #26 would have returned for the 2nd half. Listening to his comments didnt inspire a whole lot of confidence though. |
Re: postgame comments from Portis
o please. He should shut up. He shouldn't be talking about how he shouldn't have been playing. THat really rubs me the wrong way. All starters play and maybe he is trying to say that all staters shouldn't play(all around the league) but it comes off as the coaching staff messed up. I am glad he fought to make the tackle but to him he shouldn't be playing in a meaningless game so maybe he should have just pushed him and tried to get him out instead of destroying him. He should be careful too. When that thing gets cut up on sportcenter its going to sound like he is a 'me' player and the coaching staff did something wrong

Re: postgame comments from Portis
First off I am a Brunell fan but what was that pass he threw. If he threw it away better Portis wouldn't have gotten hurt. When I first saw the play I thought Brunell got run over. There is some blame to go Burnells way if you can blame Betts hurting Thomas last year.
